The tickets weren't nearly that expensive, though that's largely because the venue they're playing isn't that great as far as I can tell. That being said, I'm totally looking forward to it!
I haven't given Head on the Door a listen yet but my favourite of theirs would probably be Pornography, with Disintegration coming in at a close second.
I really like Bauhaus and Aphex Twin from what I've heard, and I love The Cure. In fact, I love them so much that I'm gonna see them live in a few weeks! :D Admittedly I haven't listened to any of the other artists you listed, but I'll make a note to do so.
I also listen to quite a lot of music, with favourites in a number of genres. That being said, my all time favs would probably have to be Faith No More, Nine Inch Nails, Jimi Hendrix, David Bowie, Slayer, The Notorious BIG, Joy Division, Rage Against The Machine, Pink Floyd, Smashing Pumpkins and Deftones among others.
Narratives like that require quite a lot of attention and patience, and in all fairness I'd totally understand why people would find that off-putting since it differs drastically from what they might want out of a story. People indulge in media and art for different reasons, after all.
Nana's one of mine too as a matter of fact. I love how layered she is; she's both strong-willed yet vulnerable, brash yet level-headed and snarky yet empathetic. Plus I adore her fashion sense since I've always gravitated towards the alternative/punk scene.
I adored the anime, but have yet to read the manga. I'll probably get into it when I've got the time to do so.
I personally loved it myself. A problem experimental works can run the risk of is being cryptic to the point of being unengaging but Ergo Proxy sidesteps it brilliantly by starting out in a linear fashion and taking its time to get the audience invested in its cast of nuanced characters. People tend to complain about the pacing but I thought it worked to the shows advantage, both in establishing the characters and in creating an immersive setting.
I honestly think you shouldn't worry about your work being similar to his, since no artist exists in a vacuum. Everyone's influenced by other artists to at least some degree. And Tomie's my favourite of his too tbh. She's my forum avatar, as a matter of fact. :3
Btw I see you recently finished Ergo Proxy. What did you think of it?
I actually had a glance over Dusty Ray's Insta page (I have an account but very seldom use it). I love it already. The colour palettes are eye-catching and the subject matter is both deeply unsettling and intriguing. And I'm pretty into surreal artists too, with Dali and Man Ray being two favourites of mine. And yeah, manga is a medium simply brimming with talented artists. You ever read any of Junji Ito's works? He's a personal favourite of mine.
Oh The Human Condition is absolutely stellar. Each film is around three hours in length so it's quite a time sink but it's paced so expertly that it never felt dull to me at all. Plus it's got one of the greatest protagonists in cinema history as far as I'm concerned. And, going off of your taste in anime, I'm pretty sure Millennium Actress would be right up your street. In fact, I may as well recommend Satoshi Kon's entire filmography since it's consistently brilliant.
no sorry to dissapoint you loool
i discovered the artwork on artstation, if you're familiar with this website, which i assume so since you mentioned your art passion on your profile
well i do think our tastes are similar
but im surprised to see there aren't many entries on your anime list
are you new to anime? but you did joined mal 5 years ago
oh yeah shoot I always forget slowdive counts as shoegaze for some reason, souvlaki is such a good album. My discord is XD#1456 if you wanna hit me up on there, love talking about music with people who have similar taste
oh wow this actually slaps tbh, very shoegazy but not quite loveless level. It's kind of like if you crossed MBV with elvis depressedly or something. Shoot me some more recs whenever for sure!
I love slint lol, spiderland is in my top 10. Love lil ugly too 3rd side of tape is a bop and ofc lil uzi is a legend. have you heard the album "frigid stars LP" by codeine, or other slowcore like duster/red house painters? They all have a very similar vibe to slint imo
My favourite film of all time is The End of Evangelion. I've never seen anything like it before or since. Others include Pulp Fiction, The Human Condition trilogy, A Clockwork Orange, Taxi Driver, Seven Samurai, Ghost in the Shell, The Godfather and Millennium Actress.
Oil's great. I just love how expressive a lot of works that use the medium are. I actually used to do visual art as a subject back in high school myself but was never that great at it. In retrospect I really don't think I applied myself as much I think I should have. That being said, I always used to gravitate towards pastiche/collage the most. Do you have any favourite artists btw?
somebody reccomended me a playlist of Trippie Redd's old music so I was giving that a chance. Today though I've been feeling super nostalgic and listening to stuff like the pixies and smashing pumpkins. Hummus is delicious I used to have some every day with crackers/pretzels. What manga are you reading?
