I think comic books suffer from the same problem, it's just a bunch of superhero stories written by superheroes fans, so like majority of mainstream anime (especially shounen and isekai), it feels like those memes people keep reposting from screenshots and it gets increasingly lower image quality... it is as hard to find an Alan Moore and Neil Gaiman as it is to find a Katsuhiro Otomo and Mamoru Oshii, and these hardly get as popular as the low quality repost memes hehe
One thing I don't like of what the anime culture calls "slice of life" is that it's hardly slice of life, characters abide to stock stereotypes and feels like a fetish over an irrealistic innocence, there is an overabundance of characters behaving like clueless 4 year olds, and often they also have the same motor function of a 4 year old just to appear cute or something... have you seen that Miyazaki interview, that is famously and hilariously misquoted, about anime being a mistake? He doesn't actually say that, but that the industry was overtaken by otaku, and those are people that hate seeing other people, so their characters aren't based on people because they don't even look at people. All these dere and moe character are an example of that...
Probably with age, but not anything recently... what changed is that nowadays I'm more prone to drop stuff, whereas before I'd finish just because I started... my cousin is really into shounen and got me reading Fairy Tail and Noblesse, and although after a few chapters I wasn't really engaged, I end up spending years following those series, same for Naruto, but One Piece and Boruto I eventually dropped. A few years ago I wanted to watch something light and silly and picked My Hero Academy, because I thought it would be similar to One Punch Man, and it was kinda ok but I've grown to loathe it because of the endless flashbacks and how every character has to give a speech and repeat their motto before making any movement, also how half of every season is just a "let's remember every character that exist", but I kept watching anyway haha
Yeah, I saw that one. It's on my Plan to Watch, but to deal with my enormous backlog of all types of media, I'm kinda dividing my time to focus on just one at a time. I don't know when I'm coming back to anime, hehe
ps: I just saw you gave it a 6 so I thought you weren't very excited about it, but 9 on the second season wow
Normally you get people that either do not watch anime or strongly advocate its presence in the vaster film/cinematic world. With works such as Perfect Blue, Ghost in the Shell or any Ghibli and Makoto Shinkai film for example. Most of the time though, you get people that absolutely loathe it to join the hate bandwagon. It sucks since a lot of them have a bad impression with anime considering the tropes and fanservice it has nowadays.
I'll let you know what I think of the movie once I finish it.
Yea, it just brings the manga to life. The anime encapsulates the manga better since there are moments are often handled by Frieren reminiscing as she recalls these memories from her journey with new acquaintances, using paneling, faces and body language to convey feelings. In the saddest moments of the series, Frieren’s thoughts are given diminutively, trusting the readers to know our main character well enough to empathize with her sorrow, and form their own reaction to the happenings, finding their place in Frieren’s journey. It instead dials back to the core reason for why someone might cherish it in the first place. With the bright colors and lots of green, it just feels more sentimental already. Beautiful color palettes.
I'm glad my interest stack has caught your curiosity. The goal with my interest stacks is to showcase what animanga is capable of. That it can be more than not just mere entertainment, but a work of art too. Since people who are not familiar with anime share a lot of misconceptions on it. (I hope that doesn't sound cringe)
I hope I shed light for the mature audience.
I haven't seen the movie yet but I'll think about prioritizing it now. Though I heard it's inferior compared to the prequel
Personally, the anime is better. Even though I like some of the fighting panels, the manga feels lifeless to me. But it's worth reading it ^.^

Anyway, sorry about the rant, this here is my favorite slice of life anime https://myanimelist.net/anime/34757/Town_Workers , it's a collection of three short stories, you can watch it subbed here https://loadtup.com/archives/2023/?tag=townwork (you can watch in any order), and what I particularly like is that they feel like real people in real life.
About mature romance, I found this one quite interesting https://myanimelist.net/anime/4485/Kasei_Yakyoku
I'll check it out and give you my thoughts whenever I can. For now, I'm teaching myself Japanese on my free time.

This panel is a great example. One of the most beautiful panels in the manga
There is some paneling that anime viewers miss. I like the gore better

Yup I hope so too ^_^
As for Rinne, the series got the same treatment as Ranma 1/2 did how both were incomplete anime adaptations... Very depressing... :(
