Despite the film being titled "Pompo: The Cinephile", the movie is actually about Gene. From the get go, we're presented with his character constantly taking notes on how Pompo and Corvette work their production with Mystia. These guys are pretty much nothing more than supporting characters throughout film so I can assure you that the film isn't about any of them. Gene then ends up pushed to the spotlight with a major directorial debut and tasked with managing Nathalie's on-screen debut along with Martin's 10-year return to the silver screen. Nathalie does have her own mini-arc of growing into a leading actress with help from Mystia and working hard on her dreams via constant auditions and working a 7-days a week construction job, but she is still at the end a supporting character ultimately. Now with Martin, he really is just a supporting character as well but the character that Martin portrays in Maestro is meant to mirror Gene's character.
This is where it leads to the film's ultimate message: dream big and work hard. The film's very opening song talks about "dreams and madness" due to Hollywood's nature of creativity. Anyways for Gene's case, he has been dreaming since being isolated at school and has always been scribbling away at his notepad on films and their production methods etc etc. We see him realize how hard he'll have to work for it in a tough industry like film (being hospitalized and still slaving away on his film to the point he talks about cutting away everything else from his life. I don't think the movie wants you to go that far though lol). You can even see this message in Nathalie's mini-arc where she talks about dreaming of becoming an actress and staying persistent even though she's failed audition after audition. She still works to stay in "Nyallywood" so she can one day achieve her dream.
