Yup, I couldn't understand why they would twist the story into that, but after understanding Japan a bit more, they kind of write stories like that because the whole 'forbidden romance' thing is supposedly supposed to to make it more exciting.

If you are talking about the development between Yuuki and Kaname... then yeah. I felt the same way after watching it. I remember how dissapointed I was back in the day when I was still getting into anime . Though the more you watch anime, the more you will notice that 'surprise' happening so often (you will see what I mean after you watch more anime). Though Vampire Knight happens to be the worst occurence to start off with if you haven't seen it in other anime before xD
