These three grades explain my grading system:
6 - Above average, decent, OK, fine, etc. This is still a positive score for me and I might re-visit it.
5 - Average, not bad but not good either, etc. From this point downwards, I will definitely not revisit the material.
4 - Below average, not that good, not bad but has major flaws, etc.

Hello!!!! Thank you for being my secret santa, I appreciate you giving me the recs and the way you explained why you chose them for me was beautifully thought out.

To my big surprise, I hadn't actually heard anything about these recs (other than emma), so I was interested in giving them a try! I have to warn you, I am a ruthless critic.

Sekine-kun no Koi was a seinen that in some other point in my life I would have enjoyed immensely, and giving credit where it is due, the romance between the two main characters was very cute to see. I liked both of them and was rooting for them to end up together (which is more than I can say for many other romance stories). Unfortunately, the bunch of miscommunication problems that continuously cropped up again and again did make that part of the story drag on. Also didn't really love the trivialization of the SA Sekine has to go through, not only in his past but in the present story. I understand it was pandering to the wish fulfillment aspect of it all, but it did leave a sour note. In general the guys (apart from Sekine) were pretty garbage, his best friend cheating on his wife at every opportunity and his coworker lusting over his pseudo younger sister were also topics I might have attributed as mature when I was younger, but now as an adult just find tasteless.

Mizuno to Chayama I did like more, the artwork was really bright and interesting to look at. A yuri story is always welcome in my books and I was happy to see both girls try and thrive even if their lives make it hard to do so. I would have loved more, but unfortunately it is a tad too short, and even though I did like the general gist of where the story was going, I did find it a bit lacking.

Emma I have tried reading in the past but both leads get together too much quickly for my taste, so I dropped it. I will try and give it a second chance thanks to your recommendation.

I am sorry if I sound unsatisfied, I would like to stress my gratefulness in your selections. They were manga I had not heard before, so I am very glad to have picked them up based on your recommendations and given them a chance. Thank you, once again, for being my secret santa!

Hi man amazing recommendations. All three were great which if I'm being 100% honest wasn't something I was expecting when I participated in this event.

Lupin III: The Castle of Cagliostro is amazing and it's a miracle I hadn't seen it before. It kinda surprised me how this was my first ever Lupin movie and I got to say I loved it. It's one of my favorite anime I've seen in a few years. It's just brimming with charm, it has a great soundtrack, it looks beautiful and it doesn't overstay its welcome. I gotta go see more Lupin movies, seriously.

Little Witch Academia on the other hand is gorgeous throughout and it's a nice cute short story. Again charming as hell. This along with the TV series have both been something I have been needing to get into, but I was always a bit wary of this one. Turns out that worry was completely unwarranted.

The third recommendation was quite the off-shoot and I love that. I don't know if I would have ever watched it otherwise and I'm glad that I did because as dumb as I am. I love to overthink symbolism in media. The visual storytelling is great and while it looks a bit odd I guess I've come to appreciate uniqueness in media after all I've watched, even if I watch quite a lot of "trash" and to be honest quite enjoy doing so.

Thanks a bunch for this. Sorry, I would have replied earlier if I realized the santas were revealed. I was incredibly impressed and I think at least from what I've seen your knowledge of the medium is staggering and I think that is damn impressive.

Thank you for the recommendations and
I wish you all the best for years to come

Hello! Thank you for your recommendations. ✨

I watched “Wakaokami wa Shougakusei! Movie” and I really enjoyed watching it! The atmosphere reminded me of Studio Ghibli films, and it was fantastic. The film had beautiful frames of the town and nature! I love such landscapes. It made me wanted to go to town likes that and stay in inn myself. Someday I hope I will go to ryokan 🩷 The story was pleasant and generally cheerful, but there were also some sadder moments, which added value to the film.

My rating 8/10 πŸ’–

I also started watching “Maria-sama ga Miteru” and it seems nice 😊
Thank you and happy New Year!! πŸŽ‰

Hello rti! I knew you were my Santa!

Cesare is one of my new favorites. I kept seeing that manga, but I really needed that push to start it and my god it was so worth it, thank you. It's such a beautiful manga, the art was so stunning and really perfect for the era. It's rare that I want more of a story when I hit above 100 chapters, but I wanted more of this. It ends right as the true political intrigue would've started and aaa I wanted to see more. I looked up Angelo and I was so sad he wasn't real! or at least not well known enough to be written about. The author did such a good job with his character, it really feels like the reader grows and gets to know more about that era with him.

Kasane wasn't really my thing sorry, I really couldn't get into the characters. I know what the author was going for, but the lack of personality was rough for me. There's one that interested me and that was the mom so I'm going to check the light novel about her really soon! I read the first few pages and I was liking it a lot more.

I have no idea how to describe Muchuu sa, Kimi ni. though πŸ˜‚ I enjoyed it, but it's so hard to describe what. It's such an unique manga and it captivates so well the little quirks in Japanese culture and humor. My favorite part was when the two met after knowing they were in the same district (sorry I'm so bad with names, I pretty much forget even the names of my favorite characters). Loved everything about those scenes, it was so wholesome and the puns were really funny.

Again, thank you so much for the recommendations! Hope you had a wonderful xmas and happy New Year!!
Thank you also for being an elf and helping with the event. Hope you had fun and we're both elves again next year!

hi bud, you were my secret santa this year!

first of all, >looooved< the recs! i was actually kinda surprised that haru no noroi was the only one i had heard of!

from our collective josei bag; despite not exactly "hitting", the different points of view in haru no noroi were really, really nice to see, and it was a very refreshing depiction of death, grief and familiar relationships. now, buddy... sekine-kun no koi was a absolute joyride! when you mentioned sekine being captivating i didn't expect that to be such a perfect description of both the mc and the work as whole! i liked it wayyy more than i originally thought i would - even cried reading it :)

now, from our seinen bag! ill admit the synopsis+cover combo did weird me out a little bit at the start, but by the middle of the first chapter i was already in love with ase to sekken! im a sucker for love stories that actually show the relationship in works instead of giving you a excruciating slow build towards the first confession, so this was lovely! i think it might have been my favorite of the bunch!

im truly grateful to you for putting such thought and care into the recs, glad to let you know i loved them all! thank you so much, and happy late-holidays :)

Nice "By Spring" review. Dropped it after two chapters, I hate careless corny stuff

Hi! Thanks for the great recommendation of Gunnm. I was a bit weary of it since it was made into a movie a few years back. But it's great. It was much more dark than I thought and I do like that it's a bit older too. I'm only about 15 chapters in so far when she is doing the racing tournament, and it's very exciting!

Also sorry about not rating my stuff. I read like the majority of my list 10 years ago and I have a bit of trouble recalling what they were like. I'm also not a fan of a subjective number rating and since I'm too lazy to write reviews I just end up doing nothing.

Happy new year friend!
