ooh interesting combination. yeah, i really should pick up a guitar to give it a try sometime soon! my brother and parents all play electric guitar already, so there's enough guitars to choose from lmao
idk, my taste is kinda esoteric and hard to define. i do tend to prefer 'smaller', more relatable stories. stuff like music-related anime, slice of life and other character-driven stories (doesn't matter if it's a comedy or a drama - i like either). i also like romance (bonus points if it's gay), but i think straight romance anime often play into certain tropes that i don't like. as a result, my MAL average for romance anime is only a 6.18/10, lol. i really like supernatural anime, i think that genre just gives so much room for symbolism and thoughtful messages about our own lives. when it comes to more high-octane shows, i like those that are emotionally gripping or thought-provoking - so i prefer things like adventure, mystery, and suspense over action anime
my all-time favourite is a tough one. the two anime i've given a 10 are Mushishi and Steins;Gate, but i think both will most likely be a 9 after i rewatch them. even then, my favourite may still be Mushishi. it's a mostly episodic show that focuses on these creatures called 'mushi', which is a fascinating supernatural lifeform - the various ways these mushi affect the natural world are super intricate and interesting. the anime also connects the supernatural element to elements of the human struggle, and each episode has a natural and meaningful conclusion that might range anywhere from tragic to uplifting. simultaneously one of the most relaxing and one of the most thought-provoking anime out there imo
ahh interesting, i was actually a bit disappointed with the song from Kikuri's band at first cuz i was like "that's not psychedelic rock, what?" but after hearing the full thing: yeah i definitely fw that song too, love the fat bass and Kikuri's slightly manic singing. For me the standout songs were Guitar, Loneliness and Blue Planet (first song they ever performed), and especially Karakara (the 2nd ED)
i see you finished Bocchi the Rock recently, also a really good show! it had absolutely fantastic visual direction that made the comedy stand out way more than it would have otherwise. i also thought Bocchi was a genuinely well-written and relatable character (despite what some frauds say), and Ryou was just really funny. did you have any favorite songs from that show?
and im excited about the olympics but im gonna miss a lot because of my work TT
yeah i enjoy most of what i watch too! :> i guess everyone just has a different way of translating that enjoyment into a final score. i mean i do have an incredibly serious-sounding rating system on my profile, but at the end of the day that one is still very enjoyment-based too
fun fact about Nana is that i keep thinking of it as 'the lesbian music anime that i still need to watch' and then i have to remind myself that, no, the show is in fact NOT a lesbian romance, lol 🥴
you give some high ratings haha :P. but on the topic of music anime, i see you have Nana in your favorites. i haven't seen it yet, but i have high expectations for that show. i have seen Given (minus the movie) which i really liked!
