Ratings Breakdown:
(a rating encompasses a spectrum - with two 6s, one might be borderline 7 and another could be borderline 5- i can like one show notably more than another in the same tier):
10 - something that's not only borders on perfect but also something that meant something special to me or had me so entranced/having so much fun i just couldn't give it anything else. intentionally kept very exclusive.
Ex: March Comes in Like A Lion, End of Eva, FLCL, Kiki's Delivery Service
9 - a classic that i loved. An 8 that spoke to me personally akin to a 10 (ex: Wolf Children), or something I'd give a 10 if i didn't have a few too many issues with it (ex: Dragon Maid, Bakemonogatari), or just an anime I can't dispute deserves to be a step above an 8 (ex: Cowboy Bebop: Knockin' on Heaven's Door, Mirai)
8 - a great anime. an excellent show or film I think is very much worth a strong recommendation.
Ex: Bunny Girl, Violet Evergarden, A Place Further than the Universe
7 - an overall solid, good anime i enjoyed and think is definitely worth your while, in spite of a handful of small or reasonably-sized gripes I had with it
Ex: Mob Psycho 100 season 1, Your Name, Baccano!
6 - a notably above average anime. something I'd call 'good', though I don't think it's something worth writing home about. It's worth a watch and has a number of things going for it, though is probably held back by some quite significant flaws that soured my experience somewhat. therefore it's also probably not the first thing to come out of my mouth as a recommendation.
Ex: Lu Over the Wall, Gunbuster, Millionaire Detective
5 - average, or how I'd imagine an 'average' anime out of every anime ever made would rank due to being consistently pretty mediocre (ex: Aria the Animation, MHA movie 1) or a balanced mixed bag of varying intensities of 'amazing' and 'disappointing' (ex: O Maidens in Your Savage Season, Diebuster)
4 - notably below 'the average show' - and something I don't think I'll ever recommend, but certainly not the worst thing ever made. probably has a small handful of redeeming features or compelling potential it didn't reach. maybe it also just wasn't my cup of tea
Ex: El-Melloi 2, Overlord season 1, Air
3 - entering the territory of... just bad. if i'm rating it this poorly it means i don't see that many redeeming qualities to it. Chances are, I was some mixture of disappointed, very bored or just plain pissed off by it.
Ex: Sword Art Online seasons 1 and 2, Psycho-Pass season 2, Tokyo Ghoul season 1
2/1 - almost certainly something I dropped earlyish because i hated it. don't waste your time, next to nothing here is worth your while
Ex: Akame ga Kill, Business Fish
