I'm just watching this winter season, and frankly, it's a little boring.
Sugar Apple FairyTale, Toutotsu ni Egypt Shin 2 has gone, with the second especially, well, here the first season has decided. And about the apple is a nice fairy tale. I also want to see the new Itou Junji: Maniac.
Hey plutochan, I understand, so let me also say sorry for taking soo long to reply! Life got extremely busy for me with multiple things happening all at the same time that I just didn't prioritize anime (if you check my profile you can see how sporadic I watched Vivy and how long it took me lol).
Anyway, I hope you've been well and that you've been able to manage the stress!
The internship did go well, I suppose using the word "suppose" to describe it probably wasn't the best choice haha!
The youtube algorithm is powerful haha.
Oh the Cello, nice! Apart from the Piano, I love the Violin, it accompanies the Piano so perfectly, just as the Cello does!
Strangely, there's no other songs that I can think of that I like so much for absolutely no reason, maybe there is a reason that I just haven't been able to figure out.
You've studied art! That's cool, what made you decide to study art, and how was it?
I can appreciate art, but not in the same way someone as yourself is able to, I admire and appreciate art at a very "surface level", almost in an "instinctual" manner , I don't tend to think very deeply on it as I do other things.
I am curious, how has your take on art changed before and after completing studies on it?
I just looked up "le cafe", it gives me a similar feeling to "Soap bubbles", that is, simple and warm, in a sense.
On the spot, some of my anime op favorites include both from Your Lie in April, Your Name op, all of Tokyo Ghoul's ops, Boku no Hero Op 3, Vivy's op just became one. As for songs where I didn't watch the anime but love the songs, 7!! - Orange, Sayuri - Heikousen, game of laplace ed. And possibly my favorite anime op of all time even though I didn't watch the anime, and have no desire to, "Minami - Crying for Rain". If you haven't listened to "Crying for Rain", I highly recommend it, it's truly amazing!
lvis’s “Can’t help falling in love” is such a good song, it is so romantic and one to dance to at a wedding. I recently re-watched “crazy rich asians”, and they play a rendition of the song when the bride walks down the aisle – it is so lovely and makes me want to fall in love again so I can sing this song (in the shower). But noooo, I don’t sing, unless it is over karaoke after a few drinks but that is about it. Do you sing often?
I agree, Can't help falling in love is a beautiful song that does conjure up images of dancing, fully in that moment, with your beloved. Nothing else but you and that person and possibly a simple but powerful memory to last you both a lifetime.
I mostly sing at home, randomly, and sometimes terribly (maybe mostly) haha! But yeah I do sing often, and strangely I have never been to karaoke. It does look really fun though, do you enjoy karaoke?
Yeah I do catch your drift haha! Though I'm sure with enough practice you'll dance really well and improve your hand eye coordination!
I have not seen the tale of vanitas, how was it?
The fall anime season looks really good, it certainly does make up for the truly lackluster last season.
The Jujustu Kaisen movie was the first time I watched an anime movie in theatres, it was pretty cool though there were some unbelievably rowdy teenagers!! The dubbed threw me off for like two minutes cause I saw characters I were accustomed to, speaking with voices I weren't xD Overall though, the movie was good but it did not feel as "epic" as anime movies usually feel.
I say that I am unsure if anyone would travel with me because I don't really know anyone that is interested, seriously interested, in going to the places I am interested in going.
How has travelling with company compare to travelling alone in your experience?
I found rising hope through youtube recommending it to me, I have no idea where it's actually from hahaha.
I think your thoughts on trust are spot on, a leap of faith is definitely part of the forumla and the reward can be like no other, likewise the consequence. In addition, it really is almost impossible to repair once trust is broken, that particular relationship might likely never be back to what it was.
Also I do think its alright on that promise you broke, I mean you were 10 and your friend broke your trust, a reasonable response. Absolutely right on that pet hate too. In this context of social issues, a pet hate I have is when people attack, disagree or even agree with something without any context, reason or information on it, purely for the sake of it, I do not get that and I can't stand it. I feel like this might be one that you might have as well given our discussions?
I have not heard of Yo-Yo Ma, I just listened to "Yo-Yo Ma - Bach: Cello Suite No. 5 in C Minor, Allemande" and "Yo-Yo Ma, Kathryn Stott - The Swan (Saint-Saëns)", both beautiful and the piano accompanying him in the latter was lovely.
Out of the instruments you listen to, which is your favorite?
I am glad you find it beautiful. I don't have any personal attachment, I just really love it, I can't particularly say why, I just love it. Do you have songs like that?
I am not that into art so I wouldn't have said it's cliché, but since you did, I'll take your word for it haha xD With respect to art, even though I am not that into it, I do like the paintings of Jean-Baptiste-Siméon Chardin, especially "Soap Bubbles". Since you referenced to "Water Lilies", are you an art fan?
I am not familiar with Lang-Lang or Glenn Gould but I am shocked, I just listened to "Bach, Concerto No. 7 in G minor", it's spectacular, how have I missed this?! Thanks for putting me on to him haha!
And yes, I do think humility is important and necessary too, not just in music, in everything.
Glenn Gould is extraordinary, he plays Bach's pieces with a distinct bravado. I have not listened to it in it's entirety, but I will have no problems doing so.
I have heard Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata Op 27, no 2, it truly is a marvelous work.
And I listened to this Yo-Yo Ma piece when you mentioned him above haha.
There's no shame in having an anime op playlist, I *might* have one too haha!
My playlist is primarily edm and pop, but I do like to listen older songs as well (90's, 80's as well, but also as far back as Elvis and Frank Sinatra) because they are quite singable and I do like to sing, though whether I am any good is debatable hahahaha. One of my favorite songs to sing is "Can't Help Falling in Love" by Elvis, do you enjoy singing as well?
That's cool you like racquet sports too! I've never played volleyball, but it does look fun.
Why would you say you look like jello when you dance?? Hahahaha xD The image of a person dancing and wobbling like jello is too funny hahaha
Oh I think I understand what you mean with data, more on the IT/Business side?
So far Vivy is going really good, the animation is top quality as well the character design, the story is interesting and yeah the music is extremely good, the op is so good, I listened to it so much. I recommend watching it for sure.
That's good to hear about classroom of the elite, I haven't heard of BASTARD! but I think I will skip based on your thoughts.
I'm gonna blast through the rest of Vivy so I can watch Spy x Family finally haha.
Oh it's nice that we agree on Anohana, especially on Yukiatsu! I've read so much comments on how much people hate him, but I think it's interesting you're not a fan of Poppo, how come?
Looking forward to hearing from you and tip taken, I will not take such a long train ride haha.
I did not have to write a thesis, but a capstone project to implement an IT solution.
I don't mind going alone or with a friend, in fact, going with someone would be cool, but I am not sure of anyone that would.
Heyooo Pluto-chan! HAHAHA likewise I apologise for the late reply! I’ve been pretty obsessed with Fire Emblem Three Hopes lately.
HAHAHAHA I mean, when I chance upon something as good as Code Geass, I just can’t help myself, I started during the day and looked at the time it was 3am, HAHAHA but somehow I wasn’t tired so I just continued. I think my friend back then pestered me to watch it for 2 years, and I kinda sat on it HAHAAHAH but looking back the first time I’ve watched Code Geass was probably 7-8 years ago. But I always have the tendency to rewatch some of my favourite series, and I watch them from start till end all over again HAHAHAHA.
Hmmmmm I tend to keep my all time favourites to a specific genre, so if I had to list 3 of my all time favourites would be
1. Code Geass for its Philosophical Value and overall outlook
2. Clannad (For the Romance/SOL factor I deem it as the gold standard for any romance/SOL out there.)
3. Grand Blue is probably my favourite Comedy of All time it just never fails to put a smile to my face, literally had me grinning every second I’m watching the anime or reading the manga. It is also my morale booster whenever I’m feeling down.
I have a bunch of other favourites but right now if I had to come up with 3 it will be these 3. (BUT TO BE FAIR, there’s just so many amazing titles out there, even if they don’t make it to my favourites list, they all stand out in their own way which is pretty damn amazing in their own right.) I could probably run you through some of my other favourites but HAHAHAH I’m afraid it might be a chore for you to read my ramblings, especially if you haven’t seen those titles yet. Though, if you’re interested do let me know I could write like short summaries on them and put it in a spoiler tag or something. I haven’t taken a look at your list yet, but I’m literally over the moon knowing that we both enjoy Code Geass!
I have to agree, to a very large extent that Lelouch became who he was because of what he and Nunally experienced, and yes she was his sole reason for living his “raison d'etre” perhaps haha. Exactly! Lelouch’s motivations have always been steered from his devotion to Nunally and his personal belief of wanting to make the world a gentler place just for his sister, it was unfortunate that he was ready to throw in the towel when he met up with Euphy near the end of Season 1 but somehow tragedies had to happen because of the multiple flags being raised throughout the series, it was termed by some as unnecessarily dramatic but I feel that it suited the theme of Code Geass in general and Lelouch’s overall character he never did know when the stop until it was too late and this was another beautiful depiction of that. Lelouch’s cold calculating nature to utilise and exploit everyone within his control was perhaps a necessary evil in his eyes because of what he intended to achieve was far more important than to do things differently, also technically speaking it was his right to speak as he did found the black knights from the ground up and somehow they thought it’d be a good idea to betray him that was such an iffy thing but it was necessary otherwise Lelouch wouldn’t smacked Schneizel easily HAHAHA. Honestly, I think his father Charles didn’t become an ass until Marianne died thanks to V.V basically Lelouch, Nunally and the rest of the royal siblings got along up till that point. Marianne’s death made Charles ship Lelouch off to Japan (Area 11) because of Lelouch’s outburst and it just made Charles more ready to proceed with the Ragnarok plan as originally intended. (My guess based on what V.V said was ever since Charles met Marianne the plan was stalled and C.C wasn’t nearly as motivated as the other 3 parties to give a damn.) Meanwhile V.V is arguably the person that created most of the events that happened in Code Geass.
I agree, there isn’t a specific solution to any situation that one would deem perfect because everyone has different thoughts and perspectives, but we would never know the ending outcome/results unless we take the plunge. Personally, the reason why I loved Code Geass so much was mainly because I agree with Lelouch’s overall philosophy very much, I do think that the ends justify the means even with its flaws, sometimes the way we do things matter to but it is at the end of the day dependent on a case by case basis. Nobody would ever argue what worked and what didn’t as long as success is achieved in the end, as they say history is written by the victors of war. Most dissenters would just get axed if they decided to be smart about anything HAHA.
That being said, Lelouch’s cynicism and world view was also in-line with his Geass powers of bending anyone’s will to do his bidding it was essentially his entire character written onto it. The end does indeed justify the means, but even he could not bear to do what he needed to do without feeling sentimental, not getting rid of Suzaku or forcing him to join him at the very beginning led to many complications throughout the series and it shows Lelouch’s internal conflict with his own logic and emotions.
To be honest, I didn’t like Suzaku at all, at least not until he decided to join up with Lelouch in the end, I felt like he was a little too idealistic and naïve with most of his motivations wanting to die as a martyr as you mentioned at the end of the day it was for his own self-satisfaction as he could not live with the guilt of betraying Japan. Funny you should mention, I actually idolise Japanese culture very much, up to a point of fanaticism actually HAHAHAHAH I’ve been obsessed with Japan for many years and I don’t think I’ll ever change but honestly Suzaku’s actions feels very hypocritical to me it looks like on paper yes he does work hard for the betterment of others but as you mentioned he was actually just doing it for himself. His only salvation was meeting Euphemia as he believed that if he had the chance to serve her he could’ve made the necessary changes to the system that is currently so damn evil lol. But having that final hope taken away from him and literally being cursed by Lelouch to always save himself it was reaching till a point where he honestly didn’t know what to do. Suzaku’s lacks the calculative nature of the nobles and relies on his martial prowess alone to be the deciding factor, honestly I doubt he’d beat Xing Ke at all LOL maybe a 1 on 1 but Suzaku would’ve gotten outmanoeuvred easily and based on his actions among the knight of rounds he just wanted to help Japan regain their independence which in a way would’ve been a very iffy subject in the first place because they still would’ve been governed by Brittania in a sense. It wasn’t a good solution at all, at least not from my perspective. It is like putting a band aid on an issue but not solving the problem. Sometimes when the system is so corrupt or horrible you need to destroy and rebuild instead of patching the cracks as they get bigger. That being said, Suzaku defecting to Lelouch later on in the series felt kinda cheap HAHAHA I mean adore the characters but Lelouch wouldn’t have won otherwise without Suzaku’s help and that’s the truth and the thought elevator incident and Zero Requiem was an overly convenient plot device to make a happy ending happen. I mean I still loved the series but it could’ve been so much more.
Yea have to agree fully V.V was the real antagonist in Code Geass, I’m not too sure how much Marianne had a role for Lelouch and Nunally’s banishment from Brittania but she isn’t revealed until closer to the end and it felt kinda dodgy the Marianne interacted with Lelouch in a more unfeeling manner, I mean it probably could be justified if she agreed with Charles ideologically but for her to be unfeeling towards Lelouch and Nunally and believing in the Ragnarok event was kinda iffy it personally felt to me like it was plot convenience and they were running short on air time. Otherwise the story could’ve gone in many different directions, it was kinda weird for me knowing that Charles was supposed to be the big bad but somehow it wasn’t and he became irrelevant so quickly too, honestly if we factor in all 3 of the most prominent leaders Charles was pretty evil, Lelouch’s vendetta against Brittania is considerably very evil as he plunged the entire world into a war zone, Schneizel was really the only decent person and he tried to avoid most conflict and bloodshed wherever necessary. And his actions were pretty much determined based on what he felt was best for the people although his nature to hide his true personality was really masterfully done he kept talking about the ability to wear a mask and that Lelouch has yet to master it feels in conflict to what he is trying to accomplish given that his entire character was built on the foundations of achieving optimal results with the least amount of resistance possible. He is ruthless in the sense that he was prepared to do what was necessary but looking at an overall he is no different from Lelouch. Charles could’ve stopped the conflict but chose not to which was pretty weird especially when they tied in Marianne at the thought elevator.
I think for Lelouch, he never really had affection for any of his potential love interests other than C.C. in a sense Shirley was his schoolmate and fellow club member of the school council, if anything he felt guilty for having killed her father and caused her unnecessary misery. He probably feels bad about it but in the end he came to care for her very much which is also attributed by the fact that she and Nunally got along really well. As for Kallen, Lelouch always thought of her as a tool to be used, it was only until in Season 2 where it felt like he cared much more this was extremely evident when Xing Ke beat Kallen and took her hostage Lelouch losing his composure showcased some growth in his character in terms of caring for others rather than just seeing them as pawns. This caused Diethard’s ultimate betrayal as Lelouch’s character showed inconsistencies. Or rather Zero’s. At the end, Lelouch and C.C.’s bond was the only undeniable thing in the end, based on Season 1’s ending where she sacrificed herself to stop Jeremiah, her saving him at Babel Tower, losing her memories when he confronted Charles and up till Zero Requiem she was serving as his personal bodyguard/shield to speak. They also shared an unshakable bond of being both the Warlock and Witch a shared secret that only they both know of. Though it was quite funny that Lelouch is the only person who knows C.C’s real name.
Xing Ke was unfortunately underutilised you’d think a person with Lelouch’s smarts and Suzaku’s technique would go far and achieve independence for China HAHA but no they were the black knights spearhead basically and then the black knights became irrelevant when the knight of rounds became involved. If anything Xing Ke should’ve been written in a way that made him more independent in terms of his actions rather than just a commander waiting for the next step and just following orders it was kinda weird. Like I mean even Gino had a bigger impact than him HAHA, Bismarck leading the other knight of rounds to rally around Charles potential survival was a very nice touch but it was probably under the direction of Schneizel. Which makes it quite sad the Xing Ke’s arc was only when Lelouch invaded China and thereafter he just didn’t exist. Rolo kinda faded in the background too until the last stand with Lelouch which was also another pretty sad thing to witness.
Really? HAHAHAH I’m glad that it made you see Lelouch’s relationships in a different way! Perhaps you could also share what’re your initial thoughts of his Love interests? Ooo that’s interesting! I never really saw Lelouch in such a way simply because he could’ve just Geassed people into submission without having to use his charms if any to make people loyal HAHA I MEAN he has a power to do so already. If anything, he inspires devotion based on his actions and intelligence, in fact his manipulation skills are actually really scary since he actually managed to scam Rolo for the long con and he utilised his Geass in such a way that if Scheneizel didn’t spy on Suzaku, Lelouch probably would have never been found out. Yes I agree, Lelouch has empathy for those that he deems worthy of it but at the end of the day, he is a person that is struggling with his emotions and logic at the same time. The only thing that he wouldn’t compromise ever is when Nunally is involved and well his hatred for Brittania but even that is pretty debatable given that his hate for Charles clouded his overall experience with his other siblings which is actually very sad since they were all really close. Clovis in particular was close to Lelouch and he was the first one taken from his hitlist. Lelouch was under the impression that everyone conspired to kill Marianne and made both him and Nunally suffer which was very unnecessary and could’ve been cleared up if Charles actually did something instead of causing more hate to spread. WHICH IS IRONIC since he wanted to create a world without lies but he enabled more deceit to run rampant worldwide.
HAHAHA I get you! There are just so many amazing factors to consider, the music, voice acting, characters, overall narrative. I actually enjoyed the art too. It has and always will be one of my all time favourites. HAHAHAH I’m really sorry if my thoughts on Suzaku were a little too harsh, I really didn’t like Suzaku at all even though he was voiced by the legendary Sakurai Takahiro I just didn’t like his character angle. But I agree Suzaku had a very nice personality to those that deserved it but he can do a 180 if you give him reason to do so. You could say that Suzaku’s success came from Lelouch’s Mercy HAHAHA but honestly wouldn’t the overall narrative be so much more impactful if we went on to say “Everything happened for a reason” Lelouch sparing Suzaku paid off in the long run because they managed to work together in the end with Suzaku being in great standing within Brittania to disrupt much of the royal family’s operations internally (not that it was discussed at all) but honestly imagine the different angles this could’ve gotten it could’ve been a long con after long con HAHAHA.
But yes Euphy’s death was 100% avoidable and in many different angles as well, if she listened to Cornelia she wouldn’t have died either. But she wanted to create a world that was gentle for Nunally and Lelouch, so in the end she became collateral damage in a world that Lelouch was trying to shape or rather bend to his will WHICH WAS TOTALLY PREVENTABLE by Charles at any point but chose not to do anything. If anything Clovis’s death should’ve raised many flags instead they sent people one by one to meet their doom which was quite funny, Cornelia went to Area 11 to avenge Clovis and Euphy came along, Schneizel was more focused on EU at that point so he didn’t make it but if he did Lelouch’s rebellion would’ve been culled from there. Charles admittedly was disinterested, so he kinda let his children do what they want, if anything it might’ve made more sense if they actually explained that Charles let Lelouch do what he wanted to let him vent some anger since his original plan was to invoke Ragnarok anyways BUT YOU’D THINK HE’D TELL HIS CHILDREN ABOUT IT OR SOMETHING? Guess not.
Lelouch also admitted that Euphy was the first girl he ever loved, this is also indication that ever since his banishment he wanted nothing to do with the royal family ever since. He felt alone and only with Nunally, he got some respite knowing that the Ashford family served as his backers but even they became outcasts and got shifted to Area 11. If anything Lelouch always had someone to support him at one point, but Suzaku didn’t Suzaku started from the ground up and became really lucky thanks to Lelouch, Lloyd and Cecile. Euphy’s existence kinda made Suzaku hate Lelouch HAHA, but I think even at the end Suzaku couldn’t understand Lelouch at all, only up till the thought elevator where I assume everything came clean and somehow Suzaku still couldn’t forgive Lelouch but it is mainly because of Euphy probably. Both Lelouch and Suzaku went through a lot but I’d say Lelouch more so because he fell from grace whereas Suzaku created the fall from grace. If anything he denied Japan their chance of going out in honour much preferably than to surrender which is probably a very narrow minded perspective but in terms of behaving in-character it seemed like his wanting to preserve life prolonged the overall discrimination and suffering of his people in the long run. So maybe the end does justify the means, Suzaku basically threw caution to the wind when the Geass forced him to fire the Fleija in Tokyo which broke him mentally but also gave him the perspective that maybe Lelouch’s approach wasn’t wrong in the first place. Even though he still couldn’t bring himself to agree that what Lelouch did was in any way justifiable.
YES OMG YES, thanks for pointing them out, it takes a lot of work to create a masterpiece, amazing characters, Music, Art, Voice Acting, Narrative, among other factors everything else must work hand in hand to create something meaningful and lasting. So thank you for sharing in this perspective :’) HAHAHA
But yes I agree, it pushed many boundaries and dabbled on many controversial topics, from social issues to politics. I haven’t seen Gun x Sword but I think its on my list somewhere if it isn’t I’ll go add it right now ahha. I’m personally not a super big fan of mecha but Code Geass enabled me to be open-minded to it at least so I’ll definitely check it out thanks for the recommendation! If I get to it I’ll be sure to drop you a message on my thoughts! But before Code Geass I think people considered it a cheap imitation of Ginga Eiyuu Densetsu, I haven’t seen that title but I would be lying if I said that I wasn’t interested. The episodes are just a tad too long for me to just buckle down.
HAHAHA more like I only prefer Japanese, if there’s an option for Japanese voice acting I’ll always take that option no question. The English dub is not too bad from what I’ve heard but the Japanese voice acting by far are just wayyyy more emotional and if you understand Japanese somehow they just hit different. I’ve rewatched Code Geass multiple times by now but every one of them in Japanese, perhaps the English version provides a different perspective? If so do let me know I’ll be sure to try it out.
Yep I’ve been great! Ever since I got back from Malaysia a couple of days ago I’ve been playing Fire Emblem Three Hopes nonstop HAHAHAA which makes me slightly embarrassed since I kinda forgot that I had to reply to the messages here on MAL sorry about that. Ahhh I see, you must’ve just graduated from school then if you’re looking for a job right now! I hope everything works out well for you, finding a place to stay could be a tad annoying since it has to mesh well with your schedule and workplace but I’m sure everything will work out in the end haha, I’m a firm believer that everything happens for a reason be it good or bad and sometimes it just takes time for everything else to even out and fall in place altogether. My summer is ending :’) feels bad man a couple more weeks before school restarts for me but I’m just trying to enjoy the remainder of my vacation since my Internship at Unilever took 6 months HAHAHA I’ll admit that it was tough juggling school and my internship earlier this year but everything worked out in the end and I’m extremely grateful to have that amazing opportunity to intern for the FMCG Powerhouse. Yeaaaa, after my cruise, I chilled for a couple of days and went on to Malaysia with my friend for a short trip (we stayed at his condo and basically café hopped) The cruise was amazing omg, but the best part of it is I’m going on another one that is similar in December HAHAHAHA would be to get another break again directly after my next semester. Though a super nice piece of news came by on Wednesday, apparently I've been nominated as one of the students for my exchange studies so I'll actually be able to visit Japan as a student, honestly this has been one of my biggest life goals/dream for such a long time, although the Universities that I wanted were not available I still got my 1st choice from what I could choose from so this year's been going well for me HAHAHAHA I can't believe how lucky I am and to meet so many amazing individuals on MAL is just icing on the cake, ah you included of course HAHAHA ^_^ OH and if you haven't noticed I'm a Japan Superfan HAHAHA.
Yea I honestly am very grateful to my professor because she nominated me to intern at Unilever, otherwise I wouldn’t have such an opportunity HAHAHA I’m just very lucky! Not to mention everyone I worked with at the campus were so nice and friendly T_T probably the best work culture anywhere, it felt like a group of friends meeting up to work on a project rather than going to work as colleagues. If possible I’ll want to work for Unilever full time if I have the opportunity haha. Unilever is an amazing place! Which is pretty funny since despite being a business student I’ve always downplayed the importance of marketing and WELL Unilever is super big on Marketing and HAHAHAHA literally having to explain to my supervisors and having them inspire me in different ways to look at marketing and obtaining different perspectives is something that will stick with me for a very long time. Because the way Unilever does marketing is really unlike the standard stuff you see all around us, but rather creating a meaningful message that is conveyed to consumers and potential customers such that it relates to them on a personal level to get that buy in and thereby establishing a meaningful connection. In essence it feels more related to communications than marketing but I guess everything in Business is related in one way or another haha. I could probably go on and on but I don’t know if this is interesting to you at all HAHA forgive my ramblings.
HMMMMM at the moment I haven’t been watching any anime but there are so many interesting titles for me to choose from! OMG I’m so backlogged its ridiculous, I’ve recently finished Shigatsu and it was one heck of an experience, a very emotional one too T_T but I’m probably going to finish up the last episode of the rising of the shield hero S2, clear some of the past seasonals, Dance Dance Danseur, and maybe catch up on what is currently trending though I have the tendency to wait for all of them to air finish before I actually watch them MEANWHILE I STILL HAVEN’T TOUCHED BISQUE DOLL AND SPY X FAMILY oh mannnn HAHAHAHAHAH there is literally so much premium content and I’m spoilt for choice AND STILL I HAVE SO MUCH TO DO I think the more time I get I just find myself getting busier HAHAHAAHAHAH isn’t that super ironic?
HAHAHAHA but okay, enough about me. What about you? Watched anything interesting lately or intend to? I hope everything works out well for you! If not I’m always available to chat if you’re bored :P though I think having time to chat would be a luxury you can’t afford right now. That being said, try not to be overworked alright! People focus so much during their lives to work so much that they forget that having a balanced lifestyle to just chill and relax is equally as important regardless of any other commitments.
Either way looking forward to chatting with you again! I wish you all the best and also sorry again for the late reply.
Heyyyo Pluto-chan HAHA thanks for accepting my friend request haha it might've been kinda random but I'm happy that you did ^^
Funny thing is my friend actually kept telling me to watch Code Geass like a decade ago and I kept putting it aside until one day I decided ok why not, turns out I finished both seasons in 1 day because I decided sleep is for the weak apparently. HAHA, it was a pretty damn amazing experience, probably still one of my all-time favourite hands down although there are a couple of flaws in the series, I think because of personal bias I’ll overlook most of them XD
That being said, I’m always excited to talk more on Code Geass so thank you for bringing it up! Certainly Code Geass stands tall as one of my all time favourites easily amongst my top 10 for sure because of its depth and general progression for its narrative but, maybe it’s a personal bias but it has to be somewhere between top 3 for me amongst the many titles I’ve seen so far. Ok so since you’re busting out Suzaku hahaha I’ll have to share my thoughts on that, but since you’re asking about Lelouch I think I’ll touch on both and maybe you could bounce of some of your thoughts too?
So to start off, I think Lelouch’s character is actually unnecessarily complicated, but his character actually gets developed and explained as the series goes on. But at the core Lelouch’s reason for living has always been for Nunally and to right the injustice that has been done to him and his family (at least based on his perspective) that has always been the case which is evident for his absolute hatred for Brittania which was his homeland and mainly fuelled for by his detest for his Father Charles, the culmination of Lelouch’s motives is actually explained at the advent of Ragnarok at the thought elevator where Lelouch, Suzaku and C.C along with Charles and Marriane who were all present when the discussion began on a possible future. This was literally the start of Zero Requiem which is the culmination of Lelouch’s journey but I’m jumping many chapters here without really explaining how we got here so let me backtrack to the beginning, Lelouch was living in Area11 (Japan) where he and his Sister Nunally were basically political pawns to be used by the Royal Family in Brittania under their father Charles, at every point Lelouch has showed disdain for the Noble Elites of Brittania even though he himself was royalty, if anything the trauma of what happened during his childhood up till his present time only served to intensify his overall hatred for what has happened to him and his sister throughout the entire series everything Lelouch has done was for the sake of Nunally but sadly he himself believed that ‘The End Justifies the Means.” No matter the cost, as long as it meant a better reality for Nunally he was willing to risk it all, meanwhile Suzaku is the total opposite of Lelouch this was actually depicted really early and in one of the picture drama’s if you’ve seen them. Lelouch and Suzaku have always behaved like Oil and Water (Literal opposites of one another and they actually hated one another because they never did see things eye to eye.) The only thing that actually helped them bond was their care and concern for Nunally, Suzaku always hated the Brittanian’s as they were invaders, with Lelouch and Nunally being sent over to Japan as political chess pieces Suzaku wasn’t shy on expressing his opinion on it either at least until he realised what a pure hearted person Nunally was, the only reason Lelouch started to take a liking to Suzaku was because Suzaku offered to carry Nunally for the physically weak Lelouch, up a flight of stairs into their residence (which was Suzaku’s residence alongside his father.) Now moving onto Suzaku’s main motivations Suzaku is what you would call a gentle hearted person who actually tries his best for the betterment of everyone but he does it in a way that one would term as being a Sacrificial Pawn for the sake of others his actions from start till end has always been staking his life on the line as long as he felt like he did what he thought was right, but this main motivation stemmed from his own guilt (killing his father, to stop the war which ultimately caused Japan to become Area11) Even if Suzaku didn’t do so Japan would’ve gotten occupied anyways. What Suzaku prevented was an unnecessary self-suicide instigated by the then premier for one final “Honourable Death” you could say that because of this exact incident Suzaku has always tried to atone for what he felt was his sin to bear. And as such the belief “I will correct a corrupted system from within, even if I have to aid them during the process.”
This has been proven time and again, that Suzaku’s entire being has always been I’ll do what is right for the greater good, from trying to intervene with his superior’s decision to kill C.C which ended in him getting shot and luckily saved by a keepsake, into stopping Zero at Kamine Island (instigated by Schneizel) for a suicide attack. The only times where Suzaku actually helped Lelouch was only when Nunally was involved, the incident with Mao. Every other opportunity has been Suzaku Impeding Lelouch’s overall plan for success, which was totally preventable had Lelouch really resolved himself to do what was necessary but he too had a soft spot for Suzaku which actually complicated many issues moving forward. Going in present time Lelouch’s hatred for Brittania has gone well beyond the good times he has shared with his family and siblings namely (Clovis, Cornelia, Euphemia, Schneizel) unfortunately they are all innocent parties wrapped up in unnecessary family politics which would’ve been totally preventable had Charles actually did something about it which was pretty ironic since he and his Brother worked hard to prevent another tragedy from happening and yet he still did nothing to stop it but rather decided to go with it as long as it meant that they could live in a dream-like state. However, I’d argue that everything would’ve been fine had V.V not interfere in the first place. Killing Marriane kinda made the entire shitstorm happen.
That being said, Lelouch’s ultimate path into becoming a mass murderer was when he met C.C granting him the power of kings the Geass, him killing Clovis was literally the path of no return which was unfortunate because Clovis was actually super close to Lelouch and his hate for the Elevens was because he thought that Lelouch and Nunally were killed by them hence the harsh treatments, he was never a tactical genius like Lelouch and Schneizel and yet he was somehow killed by a person whom he honestly respected very much. At this point Lelouch’s mind was clouded by revenge and he would do anything to achieve his goals, this caused Cornelia to be transferred to replace Clovis which ultimately led to Lelouch’s defeat on the mountains and using the landslide strategy to escape which killed Shirley’s father (this was when Lelouch himself realised the impact of his actions.) But still this wasn’t enough to shake his resolve, it was only until he met Euphy again where he actually resigned into redeeming himself but of course (C.C’s warning would ultimately serve as a red flag) and unknowingly Lelouch would cause another tragedy which implicated Suzaku and Cornelia. Once this happened Lelouch was basically too far in to do anything about it, he could only continue the path which he originally had set out to do.) Fast forward to the battle at Tokyo, Lelouch was winning the battle until V.V interfered by moving Nunally away which caused the entire battle to flip as explained by Diethardt, Todoh couldn’t lead the Black Knights the same way Zero could. At this point Lelouch betrayed the army he was building from the ground up to search for his Sister, which made sense since everything he’s done up till this point was for her. This led to him being revealted to Suzaku and Kallen whilst C.C sacrificed herself to stop Jeremiah. So Lelouch for the very first time was all alone and desperate. Moving into R2 Lelouch would rebuild the Black Knights but be unable to clear their doubts for him which led to Schneizel’s ultimate play on words causing them to turn on him in the end, the main comm of the black knights always doubted Lelouch especially Ohgi because of Viletta, I always felt that Xing Ke’s presence was downplayed a lot since he had Lelouch’s tactical genius and Suzaku’s combat prowess but since the Horai Island Arc he was pretty much low-impact other than that one scene where he caught Kallen which is unfortunate since that dude probably could’ve been a game changer. That being said however, this kinda showed that although Lelouch was pretty damn amazing he was pretty much overconfident in his abilities. Most of his defeats was a result of him believing that nobody could beat him. He was beaten by Cornelia, Xing Ke and Schneizel all in a pretty similar fashion. Personally, I felt like these were good progressions to build Lelouch’s character but they were all 100% avoidable had he remained calm and relied on his Allies rather than keeping them all at arm’s length. He viewed everyone as pawns to use on a chessboard and that is what caused most of the people to defect when they could. The sad recurring trait of Lelouch throughout the series was that he always learnt his lesson when it is too late. (From Shirley’s Father’s death to Euphy’s Genocide, Shirley being Manipulated by Mao, and Rolo’s Sacrifice.) Each incident that occurred made Lelouch who he was it was only after Rolo’s death did Lelouch realise that he had gone too far and it was time for him to stop. Up till here to the climax is actually pretty good from a narrative standpoint but everything felt rushed because after the thought elevator, Lelouch and Suzaku teamed up and made quick work of the Knight of Rounds which shouldn’t have been the case I felt like the series could’ve been extended wayyyyy longer but it is what we got haha.
That being said, to your original question, Lelouch’s character can be explained by the 3 love interest that he met throughout both seasons. Lelouch is a identity created from 3 separate individuals.
1. Lelouch Lamperouge – The Vice President of the Student Council a genius in his own right but lacking the athletic ability which makes him somewhat laughable within his circle of friends. The reason Shirley fell for him was his ingenuity to solve problems in a creative and out-of-box manner and the fact that he always felt so enigmatic (mainly because he was living under a false identity all the way till the end Shirley never knew the real Lelouch until Jeremiah used his Geass Canceller but even then the Lelouch) Up till this point everything felt like a lie to her and well she isn’t wrong but she never did care enough about it because she was madly in love with him in her own words. “Love is Power” her death was very unfortunate and really depressing but necessary to push Lelouch’s motivations forward, this actually caused the Black Knights to defect because of Asahina’s investigation. But Shirley Loved the Lelouch she knew from the Academy, wanting to know more was pretty much her death sentence. This also pushed Suzaku over the edge again, because he believed that Lelouch would do anything to achieve his goals as he did with Euphy.
2. Zero – The saviour of the black rebellion and the symbol of the Dark Knights this was Lelouch behind the mask serving as the sole symbol of hope for all elevens, unsurprisingly Kallen loves this version of Lelouch because he provided her the ability to see beyond a dominion of Brittania and to actually achieve an Independent Japan. As Zero Lelouch would utilise anything and everything at his disposal as long as it meant furthering his goals, all the while deceiving even his closest allies because he felt like it was information they did not need. Kallen loved his persistence and ideology, but came to respect his love for his Sister once she knew more about him but even she could not truly understand why Lelouch did what he did she like Shirley only knew 1 side of Lelouch which wasn’t sufficient to truly understanding his character and as such was an individual that was easily manipulated. She struggled between her loyalty to Zero and managing her own personal feelings of admiration.
3. Lelouch Vi Brittania – The true Lelouch of Royal Descent the only version that is recognised by Nunally and C.C but I daresay the only person to have witnessed all of Lelouch’s persona to be C.C because in their own words “The Witch and the Warlock” Yet despite all that, C.C’s entire journey was to find a companion willing to spend time with her, as explained how one’s Geass’s power works, it is a representation of one’s true heart’s desire. Rolo’s ability to stop time, to gain time, Charles’s world without lies enables him to rewrite truths, Lelouch’s need for power gives him control of others, C.C’s need for belonging incites love. But beyond all that, Lelouch’s true goal was just to make the world a better place for his sister and he decided that anything was worth the cost just to create a gentler environment for someone he loved dearly who had everything robbed from her. (This was best explained by Lelouch as he confronted his parents at the thought elevator)
In short, Lelouch’s character could be explained by the 3 persona’s he carried that was adored by 3 different love interests. HAHA
I mean I could do on but I think this is already a little too long, let me know what you think!
Also hope things are going well on your end, I’ve actually just finished my internship at Unilever so I’m actually looking forward to binge more Anime and catch up with a couple of my games during my down time. Apologies for the late reply though, I just came back from my cruise and sorting out a bunch of admin stuff apparently took more time that I estimated.
Your masters, nice! Good luck, with the masters and all that follow, surely it'll all work out in the right time! I am finishing my internship soon, I got it extended by a few weeks, which was cool.
I've listened to Crossing Field multiple times without ever watching SAO either haha! Same with Rising Hope, though the situation is even worse, I don't even know what anime it's from, I just think the song is so good!
From what I remember, I do think the creator presented the ideas in Vinland Saga well, considering its about Vikings, I thought the themes around it were appropriately and well enough presented, especially the more difficult/darker ones. I do understand your position of looking at it from an ethical point of view though.
Absolutely, trust is foundation of so many things, it can make or break almost anything and the fact that as you say, its a foreign concept even today, is a true tragedy. If you gave into your temptation and argued that violence is/was a way to live, I would agree with you, considering generally agreed upon morals, ethical frameworks, laws and things of that nature are recent developments, relatively speaking.
Trust to me is by far, the most important virtue an induvial can possess (In fact, trust extends even beyond humans, take a dog for example, trust from a dog is amazing, I do love them haha!). I consider trust to be the bedrock of everything, though trust can have different levels. For instance, the trust I have for my brother is different than the trust I have for a random member of the public, I trust my brother with words, valuables and my life, however I will not place trust for all three of those things in a stranger (of course). That said, there is a certain amount of trust to be placed in strangers (generally speaking), I trust that if I go to a restaurant to eat, I will get what I pay for, same with purchasing something online, etc. Then, in between stranger and sibling for example, can live other levels, such as co-worker and friend, of course this is not set in stone, some friends can be like family and some family can be terrible (though I also have some thoughts on the "family", if you'd like to discuss that topic as well?) But at the basis of it all is trust, on some degree. Furthermore, from trust, it branches into other virtues, such as "love", loyalty, communication. All of which are in themselves, extremely important, but as I consider them all to come from a bedrock made of trust, I consider trust to be the most important thing, and to that end, I try to be a trustworthy person, for things even as "simple" as a promise, I never break a promise, ever. Though I have people tell me "promises are meant to be broken" or "promises are a comfort to a fool", and I question why they would say that, and why they would make a promise they don't intend to keep.
It's a bit haphazard, but that's mostly how I think of trust, fortunately it didn't come from any personal trauma or anything, just a lot of time spent observing and thinking on it, sometimes I like to observe these things and think about them to try to understand more than what is presented on the surface, I'm not sure if I am articulating it well, but I do hope you get what I mean. What do you think of my view? And you mentioned you have unique opinions about it, I'd love to hear yours.
The internship itself is not mandatory, but a certain amount of elective courses are, and the internship can be an elective, so I chose to do the internship both for the experience of it as well as be an elective. As for what I'm studying, I'm doing a BSc in IT. The piano is nice to learn but I would not say it comes naturally, at least not to me haha! Realistically though, consistency is the hardest part (though I suppose this is true for many things), learning to read sheet music, or the layout of the keys, chords etc have not been that difficult. It's cool that you like classical music! I must admit that I don't know that much classical music, not that I don't like it, I just haven't explored it much, I only know the big pianists like Bach, Chopin, Debussy, Liszt and Tchaikovsky and a single violinist, Niccolo Paganini. That said, first on my list of songs to learn is actually the ost from Parasyte the anime called "Next To You" I love it so much and I cannot explain why, it just sounds so beautiful to me. If you haven't, take a listen and tell me what you think?
Second is a classical song, Chopin - Nocturne Op 9 No 2. And third is Merry Go Round of Life from Howl's Moving Castle. In that order, though most important is the first one.
You said you're particular on what you listen to, so, what do you listen to? (Classical, and otherwise)
No tennis yet sadly! Unpredictable weather for the past few weekends! I do not play many sports now, but I used to play football/soccer (I call "soccer" football) often with my friends in highschool, as well badminton and some table tennis (I think the reason I am excited to play tennis is because I might have an affinity for racquet sports haha!).
How about you? You sound pretty active with your love for hiking, do you also play any sports?
Dance is cool! Sometimes I stumble upon a choreography on youtube and it's just so cool to look at! (Like this one I watched a few years ago https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PeQ4y-E8xj4).
Voluntary dog walking is nice of you, dogs really are amazing aren't they? I hope you can get a dog soon, since you mention it as "sadly".
Handling data sounds interesting, do you mean along the lines of data science?
Okay, even as a fan of Floch, I must admit his abrupt death also threw me off, I couldn't believe that was it, just like that.
Appreciate you not revealing any fruit baskets spoilers haha! I don't know when I'll watch it, but I do intend to.
I'll defintely watch Spy x Family next then, right now I'm watching "VIVY -FLUORITE EYE'S SONG-", a sci-fi anime, it's kind of unique as far as anime I've seen go, and so far so good.
I have not watched classroom of the elite, I'm not sure if its on my plan to watch either, if you do watch it, do let me know how it is.
Anohana was good, but I thought it would've been more masterpiece territory. I see that you've completed it so I'll comment freely about it.
To me there was only one sad moment and given its reputation of supposedly being ultra sad, I thought it would've gotten to me more than it actually did, that sad moment being when they got their letters at the end and I saw Yukiatsu read his. In addition, there was a massive, glaring frustation that I was not able to overlook, that being how it took eight episodes for Menma to finally reveal her presence to everyone and lift the shadow of doubt they had about Jin-tan, vindicate him in a sense. I understand the argument that if she revealed herself earlier the show might not have had that much episodes, but it was so frustrating seeing him carelessly suffer like that. Jin-tan and Menma were so frustrating at times, much more than any other character. I must also acknowledge the music, both the opening and ending songs were amazing, and the characters were all great, even Yukiatsu (excluding the part where he dressed up as Menma, that was just inexcusably insane). That said, my favorite characters were Yukiatsu still, and Poppo, I think liking Yukiatsu that much may be an unpopular opinion though.
What did you think of Anohana and my thoughts on it?
I haven't heard much about Luxembourg, what was it like? Also that's extremely admirable, to keep that promise you made.
A 10-hour train ride? That's so long! And "not the most comfortable", that probably made it feel longer haha! And yeah I would definitely like to hear the story cause like I said, I really do enjoy reading your stories.
I finish University in May 2023, as for where I'd like to travel to, I'd like to go to Indonesia, Vietnam, South Korea and Japan in one trip. And you're right, things are so uncertain now, but I will try to accomplish it, hopefully by that time things are relatively normal.
Definitely, such an ordeal is crushing. I didn't know her past has been difficult, I hope she finds peace soon,
for this and for all that she's been through.
Haha no problem, glad you're enjoying it! Yes Aimer is amazing, though I will admit I only know her for two songs haha, but Zankyou Sanka is just unbelievably good, its just one of those songs, you know?
Thanks for expanding your thoughts on the moral challenge of Vinland Saga. I understand your position and my position is just slightly different. When I consume content like this, I really just want to be told the story as it was meant to be told from the creator (I also appreciate any accuracies where possible, such as historical or even cultural accuracy for the time period), regardless of whether it is "good" or "bad", so the themes presented in them do not necessarily bother me, as I try to make my judgments in consideration of the work and its scope. In addition, Vinland Saga being about Vikings, I had no moral expectations for it, as I always associate the Vikings with brutal conquest. I think those are the reasons why I was okay with it overall.
To comment on Askeladd, I did not like him as well, for similar reasons because I believe trust is timeless. In fact, there were few characters I actually did like, the most prominent one being Thors, Thorfinn's father. I do understand what you say about the violence, but the argument I would make for him, is that the violence in the show is murder, so I would not say that it was necessarily hypocritical that he struck Thorfinn, considering the usual violence was to kill.
Overall I understand your position, it is definitely morally challenging when viewed through the lens of the morals and ethics of today, but honestly, I tried not to look at it through those lens purely because it was about the Vikings. I say tried because it is probably impossible not to, as it is also the probable reason I didn't like most of the characters outside from Thors and the old man, some virtues are timeless in my opinion.
My internship is part of my studies, but with companies that partner with the school and are willing to take on interns. I was chosen as a software developer intern, but I didn't really want to be a dev, so my tasks changed. A while back I started learning to play the piano because I've loved the sound of it for years, it is by far my favorite instrument and there were a few songs that I would've liked to learn how to play. However, coming down to the end of the school term, I stopped practicing, so I started back from scratch. In a few weeks as well, I am going to play tennis for the first time, so I am looking to trying that out.
How about you, what do you do in your spare time these days? And if you don't mind me asking, what is the nature of your work/study (if you're still in school as well)?
I do not care about Marley, or any other nation beside Paradis Island cause it's as you say, we spent so much time with them, which is why I am opposed to everyone but the Jaegerists at this point in time, no one else has a concrete plan to save the island, or even an idea of a plan.
I suppose I do mean boring, though it is not a bad thing, it's just that it's not what I expected. After reading your thoughts on Vinland Saga, I knew you wouldn't have liked Floch haha. To me he is one of the few interesting characters left, still on the fence about Falco. Also 100% with you on Gabbi.
Yes! Historia punching Levi was amazing as well haha!
The picture you've painted in my head with your words makes the park sound so cool! I now understand why you say going to the park is fun, it sounds so nice.
It is definitely cool that we agree on a lot, while also disagreeing on just enough, in this case, Floch and Hanga haha! Nishimiya was definitely strong, the fact that she was able to try over and over with them, and forgive Ishida, I felt showcased her strength. I am saddened to hear you've been bullied, I hope you are doing well now and that it didn't take too much of a toll on you. I know of fruits basket, but I've never watched it. Regardless, I won't ask about it because I don't want you to think back on it, I just hope you are well, now.
This anime season is the Spy x Family season haha! It's everywhere and it's amazing haha! I haven't watched the anime yet, but I've seen sooo many clips, which is something I would never do,
I would never watch multiple clips for a show I haven't seen to prevent spoilers, but this show is so good haha. The anime season overall though, I would say is good, it had many shows with good ratings, I haven't seen most of it though. I am not sure how to feel about the Summer season though.
Your travel stories read so well, I really do enjoy reading them a lot, as again I'm sitting here smiling as I read them haha! You sound so amazing hiking through the country of Japan haha, especially the Mt.Fuji hike. I do hope you get to see the people at the Ryokan again, they sound so nice. The images in my mind of the elderly ladies haha! I could only imagine how cool it actually must've been to see them.
Do you have more stories from your travels, such as through Europe or Australia? I'd love to hear them.
I do not have any plans to travel until I finish school, which would hopefully, God willing, be in May. That said, I do have a plan to travel, I've wanted to travel to multiple countries in Asia first, like a few weeks long tour, I've planned it, I've researched it, and I've set an accomplish by date, Autumn 2025. If it happens before, as it likely could, that would be cool but that was the optimal time I set for myself back before I even started University.
Glad you enjoyed the video! I did also hear about LiSA and her husband, truly heart breaking, betrayal might just be one of the worst things that one can possibly do to another. I hope she heals and is able to overcome it.
I did not know Aimer did the ending for Vinland Saga, I suppose I did hear her before then haha. I have watched Vinland Saga, and I thought it was good though my memory of it is spotty, I mostly remember Thorfinn's struggle and the old man trying to find him back. That said, when you say it's morally challenging, could you expand? Do you mean the themes in the show, or Vikings themselves? I ask this because of some of the themes in the show like betrayal, conquest etc. and also Vikings in my limited knowledge of them (outside of Vinland Saga), were actually quite brutal and cruel, not necessarily as "cool" (for lack of a better word) as they are sometimes portrayed as.
For a little over a month I'm doing an internship at a local tech company, then I'll have about two months left. I don't have anything particularly planned for them, maybe something interesting might pop up but who knows. Any suggestions haha! Honestly though, for now I'm content doing the smaller things I currently do, and just enjoy the down time.
I understand where you're coming from. Eren's actions are definitely extreme and he is understandably emotional, but regardless, I think t's the only viable option presented so far for the people of Paradis Island, Zeke's plan was also considerable, but its too cruel (as the only winners are everyone else). I don't like the actions Hange is taking because her duty is to protect the people of Paradis Island, not the world, it would've been nice to save everyone, but that just isn't possible (as far it is presented right now anyway) And as far as the racism, hatred and island devil moniker, I suppose Eren's plan of destruction also destroys all of that, though I feel like he has something up his sleeve given the Attack Titan's abilities. Also my thoughts are coming strictly from the perspective of being on the side of Paradis Island, I suppose I am not taking a holistic view on what's best for everyone (the world and Paradis Island).
Still upset over Commander Erwin though haha!
I didn't read the manga, but I'm glad to hear it followed the manga, for better or for worse. I agree! Gabbi is unbearable. I was glad to see her changing slightly at the end of the season, but then she threw my slight change of heart away when she shot Eren. Overall I felt like the characters lacked depth and uniqueness this season, almost all of them felt "normal" this season, not special as they once did. As far as the original characters go, at this point, I only like Eren, which is strange since I didn't like him that much at the beginning of the show, he was always so whiny haha! I also must comment on Armin as I really liked him, but I feel as though he's now lost what made him special, he was an excellent tactician and extremely calculated. I also liked Floch for as short a time as he was around as he was loyal to Eren. Outside of that, as far as the new characters go, I kind of like Falco and I was heartbroken about his brother, but I'm not fully sold on him yet. I suppose that's a strange bunch of characters to like haha.
I also fully agree with you on Historia, I really liked her and wish she could've been more involved! One of my favorite scenes was seeing her build up enough courage to take out Reiss, that was so cool!
Going to the park sounds alright, but what did you do that made it fun?
I'm glad to hear we agree on A Silent Voice haha!
Agreed with your take on the class rep, she was so annoying and came across as manipulative and lacked any sense of responsibility, never acknowledging she did anything wrong, I couldn't stand her!
I thought that A Silent Voice was truly a masterful roller coaster of emotions, anger when she got bullied, sadness when she was down on her self, joy when she smiled or had a good time.
In the beginning, it was painful, sad and at times anger inducing as you watched Nishimiya get bullied, for what, all because she couldn't hear! But what made it masterful was how real it felt, as it is not out of the realm of possibility that someone would be bullied relentlessly like she was, over something like that as people are bullied over the smallest things. It was truly painful and sad when despite all she faced, she still tried to befriend these people and kept up her positive attitude, my heart broke.
Then came the second half of the film that had different emotions, completing the roller coaster, I started to feel joy and happiness though still sadness at some parts, like when Nishimiya tried to kill herself. But overall, what made it better than Your Name to me, was the realness of the story and ability of the film to evoke every emotion masterfully, and carefully at will. I loved every second of it, even the smaller details, one such detail was at the end, where all the faces turned into smiles/frowns as she looked at them. Though I wished that the romance part of it came through in the movie, it was so sad seeing the struggle to communicate love, but I suppose that too served to highlight the struggle depicted through out the movie.
How did you feel about the movie?
Solo traveling to Japan, was that daunting or were you prepared for it? Befriending local people must be so nice, what better way to fully immerse yourself in the culture right!? Hiking through the Japanese country side sounds so cool! I've seen videos on yt by this guy called "Tokyo Lens" of his adventures through the countryside and it's so beautiful on film, irl must be unimaginably breathtaking! I've also seen much about the onsens and the food haha! They do look amazing!
The idea of sending a real, physical letter instead of a text/email to a friend from another country is so special haha! That's so cool of you to do!
I have not been to Japan (yet) but I do really want to go one day!
Bore me!? Are you kidding! I was smiling reading this short bit that your shared haha! I would definitely love for you to tell me more of your travels!
I can certainly understand your opinion of Rengoku, he was truthfully somewhat one dimensional and lacking a bit of depth, but still good you know? And yeah I agree, LiSA is always amazing! Have you heard her first take of the song? If you haven't, here it is: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Q9DWZLaY2U
It was so amazing and incredibly emotional.
I thought that our introduction to Uzui was good in a sense, because like you, I was shocked to see this dude just show up, try to kidnap some of the girls, then just like that slapped her butt before letting her go in exchange for Tanjiro and the others. I say it was good, as it was misleading as to the type of person that he truly was, it even misled Tanjiro and the others! I enjoy twists like that, and if he didn't do those outlandish things at the beginning, we wouldn't have gotten the twist you know? Because my initial impression was that he was a boorish brute, but he turned out to be so much more. And you're right, this was definitely the "Uzui Arc".
The music of Demon Slayer has all been top class, as LiSA is. Even though this season wasn't LiSA and I haven't heard Aimer before (at least I think I haven't), I enjoyed her song just as much of the others, for some of the episodes, during the op I stopped to listen to the full thing on yt before coming back to the episode haha!
I will definitely check out Darker than Black, as I'm off for the most time I've ever been in my life, nearly four months!
I say Aot left me feeling underwhelmed because it kind of lacked conviction to me and felt somewhat scattered (though they are literally being faced with life or death on the greatest scale, annihilation of others or self-destruction and annihilation of their own kind, it's an unfathomable position to be in, so scrambling around haphazardly is somewhat understandable.) Every character outside of Eren felt shallow this time around. Eren seemed to be the only one actually thinking, while his goals are extreme, at the very least he has a concrete goal, same with Zeke. Hange and the others have no plan, they fought and struggled for so long for what? (Though I've never liked Hange, even from Season 1). I felt like this season is very open to interpretation, some might say Eren is now an unforgivable villain while the others are heroes, but to me he is taking the path available to him and unfortunately, the one forced on him because it's an "us or them" situation and at this point even if he stops, what will become of Paradis Island? How will the world view people (that they already see as demons, more now than ever) with such power, even when Eren dies and is no longer around, wounds will remain on the world. I can't see how they ever accept Eldians or Paradis Island. Though I also don't think Eren really wants to destroy the world, I believe he acts this way because he gave the world chances to show him that they are capable of changing, but they didn't (I came to this conclusion through his various interactions and observations on Marley, such as his interaction with the people in the refugee camp).
Though I also feel Eren could possibly be playing a common enemy to all, as a uniting force for the world, however, given his intensity this probably is not the case.
Maybe if Commander Erwin was still around, things might've been different, I really liked him.
How did you feel about this season?
I think your assessment and consideration of the smaller, mundane things we do every day is insightful and admirable. You're right. The "big" things wouldn't be possible without the small things that all need to connect to enable them, I am at fault of often taking smaller things for granted. As for super cub then, I suppose you'll enjoy it as it really is mostly the small things.
I say Weathering with you could've been better because of the ending, it felt rushed and not conclusive enough. As for the similarity to Your Name, now that you mention it, it really is similar, a sci-fi romance. Though visually, Your Name is in a league of its own.
I did watch Your Name, and I thoroughly enjoyed it but I cannot mention Your Name without mentioning A Silent Voice that came out around the same time. I say that because I thought that A Silent Voice was better than Your Name, just so much more powerful, though admittedly it wasn't as visually beautiful as Your Name. It may be a strange or unpopular opinion though, but I can expand on why I thought A Silent Voice was better if you'd like. But what about you, what do think?
As for Makoto Shinkai, he's great, I've watched four of his films at this point (Your Name, Garden of Words, 5 Centimeters Per Second and Weathering with You). Honestly I don't really have much more of an opinion on him than that haha!
Though I must comment on you being in Japan, regardless of whether it was at the time of the film haha, that's amazing! If you don't mind, could you share details of your trip, what was it like, what did you do? and did you enjoy it? That's so cool that you visited Japan!
I completed it a few days ago, so let's talk about it! (Thanks for no spoilers haha)
I agree the action and animation was amazing, thought I felt that was expected, they set such a high standard at this point that they surely couldn't deliver anything less or there would be riots haha. I did also enjoy Uzui's character, at first he was so brash but he really did grow on me because they added depth to his character that I felt contradicted his personality and appearance in a good way. I felt as though it was an emotional and measured (for lack of better words) touch to his ultra tough and as he would say "flashy" character.
I have heard from a friend that this arc was not as emotional as the previous season, and it is an assessment I agree with, however, I believe that the mugen train arc was the perfect storm of factors that all came together to make Rengoku's death as emotional and as sad as possible as it represented a major win for the Demons and a catastrophic loss for the Demon Slayers. I think it would've been a tall task to beat the emotional impact of that arc.
What I did like about this arc in particular was the demons, I thought the show did a really great job with them by giving them a proper backstory, albeit a bit of a cliched one, being treated really badly and then hating all people. But what was the greatest thing about it, was the parallel it drew to Tanjiro and Nezuko, brother and sister, they just happened to go down a terrible path.
This arc in terms of story and world building was admittedly quite slow compared to the first season now that I think about it, but overall I really did enjoy this arc.
What were the things you wish it did better?
I have heard of Darker than Black, it's on my plan to watch (along with a billion other shows haha). It sounded really unique and interesting, however I have not watched it yet. How is it?
Following demon slayer, I finished watching the last season of attack on titan and it left me feeling underwhelmed.
Right now I'm watching a show called "Super Cub" which is something I decided to watch on a whim to break up the "seriousness" of Demon Slayer and Attack on Titan back to back. I saw its poster and synopsis last season and thought it kind of cool but strange. As it's really simple and doesn't particularly have a plot, it's just meant to be relaxing. I was intrigued! Just imagine, a show that is as simple as a girl getting a scooter? But it's literally that.
I've also recently watched Weathering with you, which I thought was good, but could've easily been better. Have you watched it?
Glad to hear you're doing okay, I'm okay as well, thank you for asking. I'm currently watching demon slayer entertainment district arc, if you've watched it, what did you think of it?

I didn't watch the original Trigun, exactly like the new one, that's why. But there are so many cool AMVs in the old Trigun.
Sugar Apple FairyTale, Toutotsu ni Egypt Shin 2 has gone, with the second especially, well, here the first season has decided. And about the apple is a nice fairy tale. I also want to see the new Itou Junji: Maniac.
Welcome back ^_^
Anyway, I hope you've been well and that you've been able to manage the stress!
Op: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2p8ig-TrYPY
(I love 0:51 so much)
That's good to hear about classroom of the elite, I haven't heard of BASTARD! but I think I will skip based on your thoughts.
Here’s a Miku HAHHAHA
Also hope things are going well on your end, I’ve actually just finished my internship at Unilever so I’m actually looking forward to binge more Anime and catch up with a couple of my games during my down time. Apologies for the late reply though, I just came back from my cruise and sorting out a bunch of admin stuff apparently took more time that I estimated.
If you haven't, take a listen and tell me what you think?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0b5uulBrDrs
