Hello, welcome to my page! I'm a media/sociology student who has a lot of opinions but never any time or breath to express them. Feel free to add and talk to me, also hmu on Twitter if you want more of my opinions! Thanks for stopping by! (◕‿◕✿)

A show that is as thoughtful in it's story as in it's technicalities: visually stunning with good audio and soundtrack; characters are interesting and develop throughout the series; the story has an interesting premise that is then expanded upon throughout the course of the series. What differentiates a 9 and a 10 is not that it's "flawless" but rather it went the extra mile when it didn't even need to. A favourite and a show that I'd never not come back to - bonus points if it changes/alters personal philosophies/perception of things.

An extremely good show; handles it's technical elements, plot, characters, and soundtrack very carefully. There's character development, a well thought out plot, suitable soundtrack, and consistent visuals. It'll likely have a particular aesthetic or ambiance which makes it stand out from anything by A-1 Pictures the otherwise stereotypical, doe-eyed anime out there. This show may also go beyond its source material (should it have one) and may exceed it in quality, all the while adhering to its predecessor(s) (eg. season 1 and 2 of My Hero Academia or anything by studio Bones ily boo).

An enjoyable show with a good plot and interesting characters to boot. This show is solid in its animation and its technical elements that it stands out as a good show but could have been much better, usually as a result of narrative elements as opposed to technicality. The show is a good watch but it's not game-changing, it achieves what it sets out to do and it does it well. The show is a satisfying watch and the questions and plots it sets up are resolved in an equally satisfying and interesting way. If it's an adaptation, this score also means that it is a faithful recreation of (presumably) an already amazing source material.

A show that is above average and (in some cases) had the potential to be really good. This is usually because of characters that aren't fleshed out enough, plot holes, or visual/audio elements that don't quite fit, or a particular aspect that doesn't appeal to me personally (eg. Highschool Of The Dead is a great show with interesting themes but the excessive ecchi-ness can be off-putting). However, it is consistent enough to be considered a good watch - both visually and plot-wise. It's unlikely for me to re-watch it on my own accord, but that doesn't mean that it's inherently bad.

Basically just satisfactory, a show that isn't particularly outstanding in any way. It might have began interesting and then fell flat, or it was just lacklustre in some areas. Overall, a show I didn't mind spending time on but equally could've easily fared without. Likely watching it because it's overhyped popular, initially seemed interesting and was, or was based on something I like. It is also possible that this show began amazingly and could've surpassed its contemporaries, but then began to struggle in its world-building, characters, or plot towards the end (eg. Darling in the Franxx, Charlotte, Aldnoah;Zero).

From here down, these shows tend to bore and my only reason(s) to watch it is because of a particular factor(s), or because it's an adaptation of something I like. This show will be mediocre and often just a passable adaptation of its source material, it isn't good but it's not a complete train wreck either (eg. Tokyo Ghoul √A). Shows with this score (and any less) are far and in between since I'll likely not watch or even finish these kinds of shows. A show with this score may actually have had solid animation and had been enjoyable to a degree but it lacks in story, or vice versa, so much that I want to scratch my eyeballs out and commit seppuku.

Like a 5, shows with this score doesn't necessarily look or sound bad but the script is appalling. I will usually reserve this score for anime adaptations which have failed to meet basic narrative and film standards, especially those that were set by its source material should it have one. They may appear fine at face-value but, due it's complete disregard for technique/its source material, it is more or less a failure, even if the original source material wasn't that great. In other words, shows rated a 4 are a disappointment and, in my opinion, are an insult to the original source material (eg. Berserk 2017, Tokyo Ghoul:re Second Season, and ESPECIALLY Persona 5 The Animation).
- 3-1 -
Overall bad shows that pay no attention to basic film techniques, character and character development, and plot. What separates 4+ scores from these is that they are at least coherent; they have a plot and characters that make sense, and the appearance isn't an eyesore. Shows that are 3 and below are shows that might appear fine but are completely braindead and have no redeeming qualities. The show can be polished put completely fall apart in other aspects, or vice versa. The lower the number, the worse it is in the aforementioned elements - a "1" likely to be bad to the point of being abhorrent to the medium itself. Probably resulted in some sort of post-show depression of the worst kind and left me scarred.
I have read your review regarding Idaten. I, too, also made one. I did not think that another person actually rated the anime adaptation as the same score I gave it so far. I completely agree with your scores regarding each category. If it makes you feel any better or less confused, the author of this series is the same exact author who produced "Ishuzoku Reviewers." Unfortunately, my hope for this series has only hit rock-bottom after being informed of this.
