Is it necessary to watch Vampire Hunter D 1985 before Bloodlust? Google searches just have people going back and forth on it so I'd like to hear your take on it since you've seen both.

The 7 is an early rating for sure. I just don't want to go into it extolling it as a 10 because of how well received it is and how often people that finish it have it as a 10 (of 11 MAL friends that finished it, eight have it as a "10", two have a "9" and one has an "8"). I'll usually do something like that with very popular anime or anime I try because of reputation. As an example I went into School Days with a pretty open mind and kept it at a safe 6 at the beginning but as it went on it just lowered and lowered for me. As this show is an epic, things like major twists, finales and all that are pretty important, and of course also the lore and world building and basically how many loose ends they can resolve. Monster had a big portion that was that building part, but also had a very dynamic opening and ending. If the opening was boring and the ending wasn't worth the time spent building it up, I'd definitely not think it was good.




The thing with Death Note and Code Geass is that I'm sure part of it comes from when I watched them (you can prob see that most of my fav anime are around 2008-2014). Those were some of the anime that got me into anime, I made this account for example I think a year or so after watching them. The fact that I say this anime reminds of code geass instead of the other way around doesn't necessarily mean I don't recognize that Galactic Heroes probably influenced Code Geass and maybe others but just that the order in which I watched them plays a role into how I view the other. Basically like how someone could watch one of the newer shonen's today and maybe if they retroactively went back to watch one of the anime that influenced the new one, they would be more likely to see some flaws rather than the important things about the anime that influenced the newer one. There might also be an unfair idea that it was too similar and that the newer one is simply better when to the people watching the older one, they would just see the redundancy. So whereas I see something like a similarity between Code Geass and Galactic Heroes (some aspects), those similarities could just as well be seen as the newer one being unoriginal.
