Ghostly spirits roam in hush, yet their presence is felt. The gleaming eyes of slinking black cats, the flares of fairies discernible through the saw-toothed pumpkins, the moon's silver ray passing the smolder of the witches' brew. All those lights serve the festivities.
The groans of monsters between the chimes of the night bells. The clinking bones of shabby skeletons, the creaking of tall mansion doors, the irksome laugh of goblins along with the more soothing flutters of the bats. All those sounds serve the festivities.
Follow the call of the hiding owls while walking down the path covered in mist, as we eagerly await you in Mafia Society for the HALLOWEEN EVENT, which is held until the 26th of this month. This event is purely for fun, and so there is no competition like there was in some previous events. It consists of the following activities, which are open to all club members in need of spooky vibes:
Horror flick simulwatch
This weekend, on October 23rd, 16:00 GMT, groupwatches of various horror movies will be occuring, using the online platform rabb.it. Sign up here.
Pumpkin carving
We will open a thread where you will be able to post your own pumpkin carvings! A website specially designed to carve pumpkins will be provided, but you are also allowed to use real ones. We will then hold votings under various categories to determine who did the best carving job!
Skype mafia
If you are in the club's Skype group, you will be able to sign up for either (or both) of the two games planned for this weekend. The first game will be with webcams (wear a costume!), while the second game will be without webcams. Follow this link to sign up. The games will happen on October 22nd, 18:00 GMT.
Youkai thread
There will be a forum thread where various youkai and yuurei-related stories will be posted. Enjoy reading those if you are interested in Japanese folklore!
Trick or Treat
Trick or Treat is a game where you will ask staff members "trick or treat" on their profiles. Your goal will be to find the staff members who will respond to you with "treat!", but you are only allowed three attempts a day. Moreover, if the staff says "treat", he will send you a challenge. Then, if you complete the challenge, you will receive candy points! If the staff says "trick", you will have to try someone else... Stick around in the club for when a thread talking about this activity will be opened!
The winner will receive a badge!
Finally, there will also be Halloween cards available! Don't miss out on them. On this note, we hope that you, as well, will serve the festivities...

Hope you enjoy it. It's not the easiest franchise to get into, but it's always nice to acquire new potential fans. Mecha in general is a hard to sell these days, especially on MAL.
Also finished up Bonnouji yesterday. Quick read. Adorable stuff. Thanks for the rec.
The Origin manga is great stuff. It has a lot of embellishment, changes, and new stuff compared to the original TV series, but the overall story is the same so you could transition to Zeta if you desire.
The main entries in UC are the 0079 original, Zeta, ZZ, CCA. These are by the original creator Tomino and should be watched in order. If you drop these at any time, just skip the rest. Some advocate skipping ZZ because the first half is wacky as fuck and "ruins" certain characters, but I don't. Unicorn is a special beast. It's a sequel (not by Tomino) to the aforementioned shows, and many have enjoyed it standalone, but without the UC knowledge you miss out on the full and richer experience. F91 and Victory are also by Tomino, but they're set farther in the future and don't share characters with the previous entries in UC. Everything else are side stories that share the UC setting and events, but for the most part have their own characters and story. G-Savior is a live-action film that doesn't exist. 0083 gets lots of flack for the last few episodes, and IGLOO gets a lot of shit for being full CG, but I enjoyed all the side stories. If you do end up dropping the main entries somewhere, I'd at least watch 0080 and 08th MS Team.
Both. There is the main timeline UC that has time skips between entries, and a bunch of alternative timelines. e.g. Gundam SEED, X, Wing, 00, AGE, and the most recent Iron Blood Orphans are all run on different timelines and thus can be watched separately. Then there are side stories like Gundam Thunderbolt, 0080, 08th MS team, which are in the UC timeline, but are self-contained. You miss some bigger context of the events, but not much else.
This chart is a bit outdated, but I find it the most intuitive, and it explains things far better than I could with words:
Gundam is very different from the mecha shows you've listed, so I'd start with something short. I recommend sides stories like 0080 War in the Pocket and 08th MS Team. 08th MS Team is one of the more common starting points. It's more grounded and doesn't have any of the space magic that some people like to avoid. 0080 has a focus on characters more than the mecha, plus I think it tells one of the most poignant stories in anime, not just Gundam. However, the side stories aren't very representative of what you can expect in the main shows, which isn't quite as easy to get into. If you have time to spare, for something more representative of Gundam, and as a UC snob, I'd say start with the original MSG 0079, and go down the timeline if you like it enough. However, the original is 40 something episodes, and hasn't aged too well. A good alternative to the original is the Gundam: The Origin manga, or less recommended, the compilation movies.
Yeah, the franchise is a bit daunting, especially for people who like starting at the beginning and consume everything offered. There's actually a few starting points since the franchise includes many disconnected timelines, and there's also a few standalone entries. It's a hard recommendation as a whole, so I usually don't throw it out.
How do you feel about mecha in general? I see you have TTGL, and pretty much nothing else other than a few cyberpunk shows.
No worries on late replies. I do so myself. I've have correspondence that spanned months between replies.
So I was half wrong. Good.
RoV I felt was the epitome of classic shoujo. Watched it first when I was fairly young, and again a few years ago, and was pleased with how well it holds up.
My profile picture is from some show called Mobile Suit Gundam. Some mecha anime. It's fairly obscure, you probably never heard of it.

Also, did your forum avatar used to be a duck? Or perhaps Ginko? My brain's fairly conceited, and I'd like to prove it wrong.
Hope you like the set and happy new year to you too!
