I guess that's really the only reason ^^;
Higurashi is an awesome anime, and if I was more tolerant of violence, I probably would've given it a 10. I didn't like Dokuro-chan though. Too much violence for me.
Also, ;_; colorblindness...
If you like comedies, you really should watch Seto no Hanayome. It's fairly fast paced though. Another good one is Gintama (though the art may not be to your liking, and there's like a million episodes). Overall, comedies are my thing, but like you, I got watching Higurashi and enjoyed it (well, except the violent parts o.o).
If you really love meganekkos, you've gotta watch Read Or Die. Well, just read about it and see why it's so awesome. :3

As for only being into anime for a short time, don't worry. It'll grow on you. Then again, even in high school I loved it (that's over 5 years ago). Though that was just dubbed 4kids stuff. If you're looking for recommendations, I'd probably be good at it. Unless you like series that I don't. What kind do you like?
As far as club things go, I don't know. Many other clubs do something to keep it fairly active, but I'm really lazy, so I don't know exactly what to do. I've been thinking member cards, but, again, lazy.
