Nice for pointing out the issues with geography in Monster.

Some people just have a hard time conducting themselves, with little to no social tact. I don't have time to entertain people like that. Thanks for the comment and liking my rambling "reviews" lol

I don't mind characters with glasses (wear them, myself), but yeah, it's gotten waaaaay too common to the point it's probably nothing but a fetish now. Because there are apparently a lot of otaku out there who have a thing for girls with glasses. Combine that with moe (which has become sexualized to hell-and-back) and you got otaku bucks in your pocket before it's even out the door.

I've said it elsewhere for the last three years, but Uki Atsuya's human designs aren't as great as his monster designs. It's not helped that Toei screwed up the artstyle, but I honestly didn't mind how the characters looked animated compared to the posters. It's weird, but after watching Tsuritama, I get why people were upset that Toei didn't do it "right".
Tai didn't out-right say he was dead (just silence when asked about him, soooo mature), but they forgot all about it as soon as they got the news because suddenly they care about the whereabouts of the 02 kids and also Ordinemon wrecking havoc meant they couldn't have time to mourn.

Toei and Bandai only care about the money, I feel. The nostalgia train needs to stop, seriously.

It would not surprise me if Toei tried to go for a love triangle in the film even though that didn't even happen in the series proper. If they seriously wanted one, they should've have the 02 kids in the film and had it with Davis, T.K. and Kari. Even though honestly, I'm not that big of a fan of that love triangle since it really wasn't there to begin with, Davis just misunderstood their relationship.

I still remember the preview trailer where we get a glimpse of Meiko under the bridge in the shadows and her glasses were gleaming. That's usually a sign of a mysterious character, possibly even that of a villain. It made Meiko seem more like a much more important, interesting character than she turned out to be.
Maki pisses me off because she could've been a great villain, but they squandered her. She should've been the villain instead of Yggdrasil.

I know about the shitstorm that was German Naruto lol. But I take it that wasn't the only infamous German dub?

I am not all that shocked the new movie(s???) is Adventure-related because it turned out Kakudou (the father of Digimon, you could say) was involved with the project. Was. He left because the higher-up approved of a side-script/plot-line behind his back that he believed contradicts with the story/world. And seeing that artwork of Tai and Matt made me think we got a glimpse of what he was disappointed about. Now there's talk that it's a re-telling/alternate universe movie.

I think the moral was "Life sucks and doesn't go how you want, but glasses girls are cute, fragile flowers who need all the support they can get to avoid personal responsibility"?
Daigo's death is a great example of how to screw up emotional build-up. Like holy cow I couldn't believe they made me feel apathetic about a character who had connections and importance, but they just did nothing with him. So it's like they didn't deserve to have an emotional death scene, but the character deserved so much better. It's mind-boggling.

I'm honestly wondering if the folks who were in charge of writing the screenplay and directing it even know thing one about Digimon. Their credentials are a mixed grab-bag of mediocre to plain awful, after all. But I also have to wonder if Bandai has just lost sight of what it is that makes Digimon Digimon, they may have had the final say in everything that went into the production.
Yeah, you have a point there that fans aren't going to accept anything until it's made official, but it's still probably a good thing in the end just as long as fans understand making predictions and coming up with "what ifs" are just something to keep us entertained and interested until more material comes out. We shouldn't be getting mad when our "head-canons" don't become canon, but we should be mad when we look at the finished product as a whole and realize the wasted/missed potential that's there staring you in the face. Lazy, half-assed production shouldn't be acceptable in any case.

Personally, I don't really care too much about the balance of the sexes, I just only care that the characters feel like actual characters. Meiko felt really tacked on, however, probably as a result of the unbalance issue, but that's the least of her problems.
Oh yeah, that's another thing that never got a payoff, Joe's girlfriend! What the bloody hell, Toei??! I know Joe's the designated butt-monkey, but good Lord!
I can kinda wave it off in Sora's case because she may have still been trying to find a way to balance out her friendship with Tai, who's also best friends with her (supposed?)boyfriend and she may have been aware he had feelings for her at one point. It's high school, after all, teenagers don't always make the best of decisions and can come to a proper conclusion and such. If anything, I'm just more peeved off that Matt's decision to go into space was a last-minute throw-away line.
The whole thing with Mimi and Izzy is so hilarious because that was literally one of Tri's flagships. It was featured in the trailer, after all, so there should've been something about it at the end. NERP.

I love stories, so I look forward to hearing about the mishaps of German TV. :D

Yeah, that sounds about right xD, though I think better marketing also had a big hand in it. Pokémon was advertised everywhere, after all. But I think it could be that there was just something oddly magical about a cartoon where a ten-year-old kid goes out into the world to catch and fight with these odd creatures with powers and getting rewarded as a result, and that appealed to kids for feeling different as an adventure. It was also strangely addicting, and it was just such a happy show. Sometimes I wonder if Digimon could've gotten the same popularity and treatment if it came first, but in the end, I'm still glad Pokémon was first, as it got me interested in more shows like it and helped open the floodgates for more anime to come to the West. As much as I complain about how hard it is to come across fans of Digimon in person, deep down, I still think it was nice that it was just my brothers and I who were watching Digimon out of everyone we knew at school because it made me feel like the show was just for me. It was special like that.
(But I still swear I once saw a science fair project about the rivalry between Pokémon and Digimon.)
Lil-Bird Jul 16, 2018 10:24 AM
Exactly. They said they wanted to make it more appealing to the adult fans by having the kids growing up, which fine, I can see that, but it got lost in everything else that was going on that unless you were actively looking for it, you weren't going to see it. (Also it was more for a Japanese audience on top of that, which is rather peculiar because the original series felt much more flexible as to who it was appealing to, and they never took into consideration the foreign market at the time.) And even then, I think some of the "growing up" aspect of it didn't mesh well with their characters, it just sorta happens and you're expected to accept it. Some of them were just throw-away lines on top of that, and it's like, "Seriously, you couldn't expand on this throughout the series?"
Digimon I think was always owned by Bandai, there's no singular person who owns the rights to it. I'm not entirely sure what was going through Bandai and Toei's heads this whole time that wasn't "money-money-money", but Toei for sure could've picked better directors and writers. And animators, too, it was just really unacceptable they had such shoddy animation done for what was essentially "movies"--well, technically OVAs, but apparently they're movies.

There were a loooot, but I think my favorite fan theory was the one where Meiko was the eldest daughter of Ken and Yolei who went back in time to save them. This was mostly because the designs for Meiko and the unnamed daughter were really similar, but it was really popular with the fans, and I think it has much more merit, more "oomph" to it than "Meicoomon just needed a partner in order to not go berserk" and could also prevent a really tacked on ship on top of that, seriously, what does Tai see in Meiko anyway?.
Then I was personally hoping that the real bad guy in Tri turned out to have been Millenniumon because everything that was happening felt like something he could've done, but NERP, it's just Yggdrasil just being itself. Can't think too deeply on that plot-thread, though. (Seriously, where the hell did Alphamon go?)

Oh man, German TV has quite a history with anime, doesn't it lol.

That is quite a shame :(. I guess it's just really easy to forget how much of a cult following Digimon is in comparison to Pokémon and other similar shows. Not helped that with each new season, less people watch, and that's why Bandai was so adamant about having Tri made, because that's their biggest money-maker.
Lil-Bird Jun 30, 2018 12:59 PM
It's fine, I'm like that too. I've been meaning to write out a review/final thoughts/analysis, but it's hard for me to focus on it because there was too much to take in and it's just kind of all over the place.

Isn't it sad when fans can come up with better ideas than the hired, professional screenwriters and directors? I'm thinking that's what may have helped hurt the series a little for me are all the fan theories that were floating around and therefore upped expectations to unrealistic levels. They were fun theories, and a lot of them were well-thought out, but in comparison to what we ended up getting, I kind of wish some of if not all the fan theories were correct. And I hate having to admit that.

I'm such a sucker for Digimon that I'm just going to end up watching it anyway, but I don't have very high hopes for this new project, especially if the same team for some stupid reason stays to work on it. I just wish Toei would stick with AUs and other original ideas for Digimon instead of revisiting the most popular series just to milk the fans for nostalgia bucks.

Hey, not a problem, I love meeting other Digimon fans. Never been able to talk about the series elsewhere but online, never knew anyone personally who watched it lol.
Lil-Bird Jun 26, 2018 9:24 AM
Digimon Tri, more like Digimon Psyche. Your review doesn't go into much detail, but I agree with it except for the sound department. The soundtrack was bad, the only good things to come from that soundtrack were "Butter-Fly", "Seven", and "Brave Heart", and maybe "I Wish". Yeah, the soundtrack's a modern upgrade of the original soundtrack, but it's a terrible, lifeless upgrade. I had to really pay attention to even know what track I was listening to, they rarely ever sounded the same.

It really shouldn't have taken three years to tell a subpar story, all Toei cared about was sucking your wallets dry. I knew it was going to be a bumpy ride the moment I looked up the staff around the time the third movie came out, particularly the screenwriter(s), never had I seen more of a mixed bag résumé. I don't know what the Japanese audience sees in Tri, but now that there's a new project in the works (possible Adventure-related—of course), I guess they deserve to reap whatever mediocrity they sow.
