I absolutely love your panel. (I saw it on YouTube before, and I saw you link it again here.) Are you going to have your panel at AX this year?

My favorite animator is Kouji Morimoto. I absolutely love his style. The way you guys described his work in the panel was so perfect.

Aren't you so excited for Ping Pong The Animation?! My eyes were popping out while watching episode 1.

Sorry for the sudden and random comment, but I think it's rare to find other people here on MAL who like this type of anime.

Hey, cool entries on your list. If you haven't watched the Utena series I recommend it because I always felt it was more superior than the movie.

I was surprised how knowledgeable on the alt manga scene you actually were. Going in I figured it would just be a panel about Tatsumi (which would have been great anyways!) but when you started mentioning people like Tsuge and Nananan I was really impressed. I never thought I would hear those names brought up at an anime convention.

Are you familiar with Jiro Matsumoto at all? He does some very interesting and unconventional stuff. Vertical is actually publishing his manga Velveteen & Mandala in a few months. I believe this is his first time getting published in English, so it's something to keep an eye on.

Oh, the Satoshi Kon panel was great as well. I actually learned a lot about him I didn't know from that, and it was interesting seeing how cinema influenced him.

Unfortunately I missed the Sakuga panel, probably because I was still in line for my badge, but I see its been posted on youtube so I'll check that out.

You ran the alternative manga panel at ACEN this year right? Great job! I was the guy in the front row who mentioned Red Colored Elegy and River's Edge. I hope to attend more of your panels in the future!

I completely agree with you, the US alt scene is raising. For me It's great to see that for example Vertical is making a great success, and anthologies like AX being published in English. Sean Michael Wilson is doing a great job, and i hope he keeps it up. As I ordered AX I noticed how it was already sold out in most sites (like amazon and bookdepository). This shows, that is selling well, and Sean said he's already working on Vol. 2 of AX. The beginning of a new age I hope.

Still, it's far from becoming the French Market. A clear argument to that, is the fact, that all the new titles announced at SDCC by the more alt publishers (Top Shelf's Cigarette Girl, D&Q's NonnonBa and Onwards Towards Our Noble Deaths), were already published in French. The only exception perhaps would be Vertical's Lychee Light Club, which was a great news at least for me, since I was expecting for some time. Still my point is that all the new great stuff published in the US has already been covered by the French.

I can pretty much agree with you that France has the only good alt anime/manga crowd. Fortunately for me, I happen to speak (more read than speak) French. And I take advantage of that. Half of my manga collection is in French, and they're most alternative titles which aren't published in English (for example an Akino Kondoh short stories collection). Also, I'm going to order in the next few days Tsuge's L'Homme sans Talent, one of the few books released outside japan, and my first Tsuge book. I know of the existence of Tsuge's oneshot published in TCJ, but I never found the opurtunity to get it, since other titles have always an higher priority, like this Tsuge book.

I envy you.

Where I come from, we rarely have con's (and are filled only by Naruto fans, not Anime fans).

You mentioned Tsuge, which isn't covered in english language. Do you happen to read japanese?

I would like to make the blog roll, but I would like to recruit some more people. Meanwhile, I took the liberty to create a tumblr, check it out if you like.

I'm glad you liked it!

I'm so happy you would like to help with the blog! You say that you run panels, in your profile. As I never really went to a panel, I don't know what happens there. Could you explain me what exactly you do there?

Well the alt manga review site (or blog), is still in a very early status. I'm planning to dedicate more time at the end of summer (September), since I'll be away until then. So for now, I'm just looking for people to help me with it. I keep you posted with the progress on the blog.

Thanks for the link. I will check to see if the library has it since it looks like a well worthy watch.

A married couple in their early 60s was celebrating their 40th wedding
anniversary in a quiet, romantic little restaurant. Suddenly, a tiny yet
beautiful fairy appeared on their table. She said, 'For being such an
exemplary married couple and for being in love with each other for all
this time, I will grant you each a wish.' The wife answered, 'Oh, I want
to travel around the world with my darling husband.' The fairy waved her
magic wand and - poof! - Two tickets for the Queen Mary II appeared in
her hands.

The husband thought for a moment: 'Well, this is all very romantic, but
an opportunity like this will never come again... I'm sorry my love, but
my wish is to have a wife 30 years younger than me.' The wife, and the
fairy, were deeply disappointed, but a wish is a wish. So the fairy waved
her magic wand and poof! The husband became 92 years old. The moral of
this story: Men who are ungrateful jerks should remember ... fairies are
female ...

The Top Ten Reasons Men Prefer Rifles Over Women

#10. You can trade an old 44 for a new 22.

#9. You can keep one Rifle at home and have another for when you're on the road.

#8. If you admire a friend's Rifle and tell him so, he will probably let you try it out a few times.

#7. Your primary Rifle doesn't mind if you keep another
Rifle for a backup.

#6. Your Rifle will stay with you even if you run out of ammo.

#5. A Rifle doesn't take up a lot of closet space.

#4. Rifles function normally every day of the month.

#3. A Rifle doesn't ask, "Do these new grips make me look fat?"

#2. A Rifle doesn't mind if you go to sleep after you use it.

And the number one reason a Rifle is favored over a
woman:

#1. YOU CAN BUY A SILENCER FOR A RIFLE!

I started posted on the forums shortly after jfrog left, as I found out later. I still post in the manga section and the occasional anime thread (like with Yuasa's new show).

I'm tied up for now, but I'll definitely try to make it to either of cons in Columbus next year. The panels sound interesting based on the general description you give in your profile.
It’s time to ditch the text file.
