The main character, despite being the top 10 in the world, was one of the dumbest protagonists I've ever seen. Honestly, this serious reminded me of SAO, only SAO was better. There was one moment in the series where Sakamoto did an intelligent action, which was during the beach scene where he avoided the remote bombs. Aside from that moment, and his ability to radar cancel, he was absolutely useless. He was oblivious to even the most simple of concepts. Everything that was painfully obvious had to be explained to him. Literally, everything. His title was just for show. Maybe his character changed from the manga to the anime, but in the anime, he's one of the worst protagonists I've seen.
The show was trying to be tactical by explaining everything and trying to outsmart everyone, but really, there is no strategy to speak of. Just simply throwing the bombs would have yielded better results. The bombs are shown to have a ton of destructive power, but yet the constantly blow up in people's faces and they walk it off unscratched. Then, suddenly from the same explosions, they randomly get wounded. It's inconsistent and was annoying. Additionally, the girl was horrible. I thought maybe she'd be a decent character at first, but no, she's just a damsel in distress who provides soft-core fan service.
The last episode killed me. The one handed lady, from throwing 1 bomb, completely threw off the antagonist when they were on the roofs, and he instantly turned tail when he obviously had the advantage. Then, one handed lady gets blown off of the roof from a close-range bomb, and drops her bomb near her too, then bam, she's completely fine without a scratch. Then she goes to kill the antagonist after the protagonist "outsmarts him", and then she doesn't even kill him. After all the shit she went through, "nah, I still love him. Fuck the plot". Which reminds me, when the protagonist avoided death, why did he not reveal himself or do ANYTHING until it was clear he survived? He even just walked out casually in front of his opponent without a plan stating "here I am, take me".
There was just too much unnecessary and forced drama in this show, riddled with pointless actions and ideas. One of the reasons I enjoy hunter x hunter so much is because every action or motive, despite what the intent is, is thought out extremely well and holds meaning, sometimes even too much so. Even though the motives consistently change and the characters fail in their goals a lot, it is always clear what needs to be done and every action the characters do feel powerful and have purpose. There is absolutely none of this whatsoever in Btooom. I honestly don't see why people like it so much. At least in SAO the protagonist, while generic, wasn't bad. Sakamoto is literally the worst protagonist I have seen, even more than Yuki in vampire knight, who was also next to useless.
The only part I didn't really like in the anime was the couple pairings right after the summer camp. I mean, we have both Shun and Sataru having feelings for Saki, and Saki having feelings for Shun, and then BAM, Shun and Sataru get together. I Mean, WTF? I was fine with the relationship, it was just so not what I was expecting. Actually, more like the complete opposite of what I was expecting. However, the Saki x Maria pair wasn't as jarring for me since they actually did show that they were really close before the 2 year skip. Right before Maria vanished I started to seriously like the relationship between Saki and her, and then BAM, plot development. Dammit.
I think it was really cool how they did the character relationships in this series. I went in expecting them all to die, but they still were able to make me feel for the characters (except Mamoru). When I first saw the Fiend, I was like "YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!". And then when it wasn't Maria, I was all "FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!" Dammit man. Lol.
Anyways, yeah. Good show. Thanks for the recommendation.
You don't like Inferno Cop anymore? Well honestly, I don't what say. Seriously, my mind's a blank. I can't think of how I should respond.
but yeah, she kinda annoys me. I mean, yeah, you lost your memory but does every word that leaves your mouth gotta be "Eh?" or "No... I..." >.< and why didn't she try to swim up? or at least try?
it was like: "Oh, the boat broke, the water is flowing in, oh i'll just run to the endge of the boat and.. ooops I fell. Now watch me not trying to save my own life..."
lol, it's so crazy, this anime! xD
They never really explained why Girls und Panzer got delayed so heavily. I was late in catching up and I'm still going to have to wait two months for the last two episodes. At least they didn't end it on a massive cliff hanger. Well, it was still a cliffhanger but not a Code Geass sized cliffhanger.
