Since I'm already a member of this site for over a year now, it's about time I write something here, isn't it?
I'm an university student from Germany, who loves watching anime. Like many, I was quite skeptical of the medium at first, thinking: "Ah, it's just Naruto (and hentai) anyways - I'm not particularly interested in that anymore". Of course, I couldn't have been more wrong. It actually was a friend I knew for quite a long time already who reintroduced me to anime. The whole thing started with some random Comedy Ecchi shows, which I found quite funny at the time and which led me to ask for further recommendations from him. Later on, one of those recommendations ended up being Shakugan no Shana. He only watched the first 3 (or so) episodes of the first season at the time and didn't even know if he liked the anime or not but I still gave it a try. Admittedly, the first 6 episodes (Friagne arc) didn't really hook me either. I think I said something along the lines of "Oh god, these monsters look really stupid" and called parts of it quite boring. But I still continued watching. And from episode 7 onwards, it got really, really good. So good that I marathoned the whole thing (yes, THE WHOLE THING - all three seasons plus ova - though after the first (or second? idk) season, I needed to get some sleep first (... it was quite late at night (but I honestly still would've wanted to continue))). To this day, this series still is my favorite anime of all time. No contest. And it was the main reason why I got into anime like this - if I would have continued just watching Ecchi Comedy stuff, I probably would've dropped the medium again after a month or so. Like this, I got to know some really great anime (and some really, really bad ones) and I started buying anime DVDs/Blu-Ray, Manga, Light Novels, etc. and got really invested in the medium. At first, I even refused to drop any shows but well... let's just say that OreImo taught me that that was a bad idea. Currently I'm using sites like Anichart to keep up to date with current anime and I'm pretty much watching whatever show I'm interested in (be it because of the Synopsis, the promo art or some other reason). Also, I'm blaming my backlog on university work. And yeah, that's about it as far as my story is concerned - not much more to say. Favorite Anime: 1. Shakugan no Shana franchise (III > I > II) 2. Kekkai Sensen (I love everything about this anime. Everyone is just so likeable, it's extremely enjoyable to watch, funny, looks and sounds great and the whole setting is great, too. Also: Episode 5 left me smiling and in a good mood for the whole rest of the day. (And White and Leo are such a cute couple)) 3. Ginban Kaleidoscope (Alright, I... didn't expect this. It was amazing seeing just how much Pete changed Tazusa. They also handled the drama part amazingly well - especially since episode 2 basically already told us how it would end and it didn't just come out of nowhere.) 4. Gosick 5. Toradora! 6. Pandora Hearts (The first 4 episodes already fascinated me - the last 2 episodes felt really rushed and are possibly anime-original, though. Guess I'll see if I'm right about that once I get around to reading the manga. (Thought so. Alice acted completely out of character and the whole scenario itself was completely ridiculous after all) Well, anyway, I just saw that quite a lot of manga readers hate the anime - I honestly don't understand why, though. Until the anime went full anime-original in the last, what was it, 3? episodes, the adaptation was pretty much 1:1 for the most part. Aaaaaaand I'm rambling again. Sorry.) 7. Pokemon Diamond&Pearl Yes, I am actually serious about putting a season of Pokemon up here. That is because this season is what rekindled my love for the franchise when I was about to give up on it completely. Ash's rivalry with Paul was one of the best things in Pokemon with how the two of them started out as trainers with seemingly completely different training methods who hated each others' guts, setting Ash up to be the good and Paul to be the bad guy, but while Paul's actions clearly seemed wrong, the show never actually called them wrong. Instead, it pointed out the similarities between Paul's and Ash's methods and showed that Paul's methods clearly were effective. Over the course of the series, the two actually started to learn from and to respect each other, instead of just dismissing the other completely and in their final battle, it showed that Ash's methods could be just as, if not more, effective than Paul's - that being nice to your Pokemon doesn't actually make them weak - and that battle just might be one of the best fights I've ever seen in anime. Another reason why I love this season is Dawn. That girl is pretty much the only one of Ash's companions who feels like his equal. Misty just kind of faded into the background, May seemed more like his student, Iris had the same problems as Misty and seemed kind of condescending towards Ash and Serena actively distanced herself from him because of her crush and put herself below him. Dawn was none of that. In her case, she never faded in the background and played a major role in every movie. That is because Ash and Dawn are fantastic friends, who have a lot in common and constantly learn from each other. Ash is always there to cheer for Dawn in her contests, while Dawn is always there to cheer for him in his gym matches. He developed moves that were inspired by her contests, his battles taught her to be a better battler herself and inspired some of her contest moves. Even the personalities of those two are incredibly similar - just like some of the experiences they went through. They compliment each other greatly and their relationship is just incredibly informal, which just makes it an absolute pleasure to watch their interactions - they don't have to act out a character around each other and can just act naturally. Even nearly every Japanese song in the DP era talks about how great their bond is. Those two are probably the greatest team we will ever see in the Pokemon anime and that's what made the DP anime absolutely amazing. Too bad that she will probably never return to the anime now that she had her cameo in the BW season. Lastly, Sinnoh is also where Ash was at his peak, with him substituting Pokemon, inventing completely new moves and actively planning ahead in (and for) battles. Now, you might ask why I didn't put the XY(&Z) season here, considering how popular that season is. Well, that would be since it just didn't have as much of an impact on me. Ash's companions just faded into the background after their respective arcs were done, his female companion actively distanced herself from him and he didn't even have a rival until Sawyer appeared about halfway through the series. I liked Ash's bond with Greninja, the fact that the fights looked and sounded incredible and that most arcs were handled quite well though. (Now, don't get me wrong. I think that XY(&Z) was a great season. Just that it wasn't nearly as good as DP was) Manhwa List DICE: The Cube that Changes Everything - Chapters Read: 160 Hero Waltz - Chapters Read: 47 - Started Date: 12-06-15 The Gamer - Chapters Read: 108 - The class president arc finally made me lose interest - (probably) dropped The Fairy Captivity - Chapters Read: 33 - The only persons I like are Yue Hu and Torres. Also, what's up with the author literally using photos as background images for some chapters? - Started Date: 04-25-2016 - (probably) dropped Pride Complex - Chapters Read: 29 - Started Date: 06-01-2016 Tower of God - Chapters Read: 29 - Started Date - 11-20-2016 - I like the set up of the story, the side and main characters but I just can't get myself to like Bam for the same reasons for why I hate Serena. I get that Rachel was/is his light in the darkness but he is giving up his own self for her (while dismissing her own character) and I hate that unOrdinary - Chapters Read: 14 - Interesting idea but terrible character writing and writing in general. It feels like watching apes fighting over who has the bigger muscles rather than watching actual humans. The characters just feel like caricatures and this includes the main girl - dropped Down to Earth - Chapters Read: 97 - Terrible, terrible chemistry between the two mains. The guy is basically the personal servant of the main female - constantly getting asked to do things for her and complying - and she still doesn't trust him. At all. At this point i kind of need the plot twist to be that Zaida was some kind of highborne princess. Seems like she always needs to be in the right, even when she does something bad. Also completely ignoring his social anxiety and constantly putting him in uncomfortable situations. And eventually breaking up with him like everyone else. Because that is going to "help". Not like it happened a billion times before already. Most hated anime characters: Sorry in advance if I offend anyone with what I'll be writing here but I am talking about my most hated characters after all. A little spite can't be helped. Characters that were written to be evil, side characters and stuff like that are not included since most of the time, I don't even care enough about those kinds of characters to even remember their names for a longer period of time. 1. Serena (Pokemon) - I used to only hate her as a traveling companion for Ash (because most of the time, she was too busy fawning over and idolizing him to even hold a proper conversation with him - the fact that amourshippers even go crazy over casual touches from Ash just proves this) while I was at least respecting the other parts of her character but the last episode of the XY&Z anime did a great job at changing that. The fact that she called Ash her ultimate goal and was going on about how she was going to meet him again in the future as a far more attractive woman showed that she didn't change one bit from how she was at the start of the anime. What happened to her goal being to make other people smile with her performances which she mentioned just two episodes prior? Her goal of becoming the best performer in Kalos? I guess that all that is not important compared to her desire to get banged by Ash. That scene really made me wonder what was even the point of episode 60 of the XY season since her goal obviously still is just Ash just like at the beginning and her performances aren't as important. I'm sorry but I just really can't respect someone who has another person as their goal but people seem to like those kinds of totally submissive """waifus""" so hey, good for them, I guess. Another thing that ticked me off about her is that she yelled at her Pokemon one too many times and can't seem to accept Ash for who he is when he is showing weakness and just leaves him to overcome that by himself because her idol is obviously perfect and shouldn't be considered as the same person anymore when he isn't strong for once (XY121/XYZ28). Even if they got together at some point, she'd probably dump him instantly as soon as she realizes that Ash isn't as perfect as she imagines him to be. If he's not perfect, he isn't Ash anymore after all and the best way to deal with your partner in a relationship when he is depressed is to yell at and leave him if he can't instantly bounce back from it, right? /s ("But lolololouz, did you forget? They are childhood friends and are therefore perfect for each other!" Oh, you're talking about that one time Ash bandaged her ankle because she hurt it and was in trouble? Yeah, jeez, Ash has never helped anyone else before when he or she was in trouble, how could I forget that /s. No, seriously though, stop acting like they were childhood lovers or something. Ash does that kind of stuff all the time.) And lastly, to those people who claim that everything after XY(&Z) is just a spin-off and/or just focuses on Ash's child... how can you even say that with a straight face? Like seriously, the anime CAN'T end before Ash reaches his lifelong dream. Even if we were to assume that a ship became canon, no ship is that important that you should sacrifice his dream for it. 2. Chisato Sumiyoshi (Koi to Senkyo to Chocolate) - The reason I hate this girl is remarkably similar to one of the reasons I hate Serena, even if the circumstances are quite different: It is because she can't accept Yuuki for who he is and treats him as if he was her dead brother to compensate for her loss to the point of obsession. Sure, that issue KIND OF gets resolved in the last few episodes but not accepting a person for who he or she is, instead pretending that that person is someone completely different, all the while stating that she loves that person and doing so for YEARS is something that I just can't forgive. The only saving grace of that anime for me was that Yuuki knew exactly what was going on and mostly ignored her advances, no matter how bold she got with them. They still ended up together, sure, but I guess that can't be helped. 3. Kirino Kousaka (OreImo) - This one won't take long to explain: I hate Kirino because she basically was in an abusive relationship with her brother. It is beyond me how Kyousuke managed to fall for his abusive sister - especially considering how season 1 made it clear that he saw her as nothing more than his sister. I don't care about Kuroneko and Ayase either because they ruined it for themselves with their dumb breakup plan and the fact that they were nice to him for only one episode (even if that episode is one of the good things about season 2) respectively but Kirino is the only girl I absolutely hate in that show. |

That is an exemplary series.
I grew up watching a lot of toonami, but I consider mine to be Suzuka.
