For sure it is! I don't remember ever seeing a show with this kind of world building. It is hated solely cause ppl don't like rudeus's personality, which tbh I didn't too. But as u go farther in the story he changes for the better.
As for the manga, I don't think its very much ahead of the anime. But u can read the ln/wn. It was the first ln I read, and id say it's definitely worth.

Yes I love u no homo. I hate all the people calling Rudeus a pedo and mushoku an ecchi. It's really fucking phenomenal and most of the people saying that prob form their opinions after watching one of those 2 minute clips of fanservice on youtube.
