what's worse is that it's kind of one of the OGs in that romance genre now. i think that female lead was flawed but good, but the romance combo was terrible. I know what you mean about it not having an ending, but then again, maybe it's better that way, since it would probably be an after school special or PSA about dating violence and toxic relationships
As a die-hard fan of the "No Game No Life" anime, I have to say that it's one of the most unique and entertaining shows I've ever watched. The premise of two genius siblings being transported to a world where everything is decided by games is simply brilliant!
Sorry for the late reply. The reason I gave it such a low score wasn't because of the art, dub, sound design, or manga to screen adaptation. It was because of the poor character development, and linear story. Personally I'm not a fan of weak characters that don't grow from their hardships. It sends a poor message to viewers that they can't change their life or situation no matter how hard they try. An if that is the case then at least ground it in comedy not depression or a feeling of lonely/hopelessness. I review purely off of story quality and world building techniques, and like I said earlier overall character development. The MC has a few moments where they truly can shine but it's almost immediately snuffed out by dragging underdeveloped problems that never get resolved. As I said in my review I hope in season 2 they build the characters into respectable young adults. Instead of enabling insecurities and at times incentivizing paid relationships in some longing for emotional connection. This problem translates into real world problems where renting a girlfriend is just the lite version of paying for a prostitute, or a Onlyfans exclusive, or a twitch pole dance. Don't get me wrong it's not the same thing, but it's in the same genre. I know the characters in this anime are of age to make adult decisions, but the younger audience that's watching them have developing minds. Personally I'm of the viewpoint for this anime you can only learn "what not to do," for this character has poor traits as a young adult to follow. That all summed up my overall score for this anime. If I took none of what was said in my review or this reply in consideration I'd give it a 5/10. I hold Japan to a higher standard in storytelling than western comics simply because the west now is about narrative and post modern progressivism which pollutes good story writing, and I'm beginning to see it in Japanese manga and anime adaptations and it's worrying. That's all lol.
