It's the best animated adaption of Junji Ito's work by far. Sticking with the black and white style was smart, because it helped them focus on the creepy details that Junji Ito is able to create with his line work alone. I think the voice cast and the ambient sounds worked to its advantage as well.
The biggest drawback to this adaption is its length. I think it could have used at least two more episodes to slow the pace down, because Uzumaki is full of back to back horrors that ramp up in intensity and absurdity whereas in this adaption, some of the short
