Came here because of your Gintama review. Yeah, the anime looked better when Sunrise was animating it. Not to mention I don’t like how pale Takasugi and Gintoki look in the Final, at least judging by the character sheets.
I had Gintama as my top 1 for 7 years and Umineko dethrones it in 7 months 😭 it’s a really beautiful story. A love letter to fantasy, to mysteries, and to all of fiction itself. I may even say a love letter to love and truth.
It’s the most interactive experience I’ve had in media. I highly recommend the visual novel if you’re interested.

But damn yeah just saw your Gintama the semi final and final scores. Again I REALLY recommend reading the manga, the adaptation for the final arc is really bad, no joke. 😢 only thing in the movie done justice was the second half, which is a bit weakened when majority of the weight of the arc was produced poorly or cut out. The semi final cut out all of Takasugi-Gintoki-Katsura moments (Even offscreened Katsura joining up with them) and the final Cut out tons of Takasugi monologues.
The silver soul arc wasn’t done well in the anime either.
Yeah I feel you on school, I have so many assignments and long lab reports due this week and will have to wake up at 4 am the next day to do them. 💀
School’s been taking away all my times for hobbies or socializing.

Oh and I saw a tiny bit of your discussion with Not_me200, have you read the Gintama manga at all? The final arc is a lot better in there and Utsuro’s theming and role is far better conveyed.
Yep , understandable many people do think the way he was held in the movie is bad , I do somehow think tho
Any ways we all agree nothing gintama presented after the rakyou battle arc was as good as its formers

Yeah your pov is understandable, also for me utsuro’s powers feel bizzare and out of place but the thing with him having two personalities is subjective as I think it gives him more of a depth and a character for shoyou himself
He is also no where as well written as takasugi
Takasugi dynamic with gin is soo far better , and his writing him self is far better
Kamui is also better and relatable
And yeah you didn’t feel hype about him is kinda understandable.
About the production values I think It was great there chose fo the angles is amazing , and the film it self had a good animation in my opinion as gintama didn’t care much about production things
And i watched a lot of shows when I think about utsuro I remembe zeref and father …etc where he is a better version of them xD absolutely johan is on another level , same woth pain who I think the best naruto character with sasuke
The flaws you talked about are either subjective or do come late in the show
I do agree with the first point about ss p1 that thing was really average. I do think the ss arc it self is average by gintama standards only p3 saved it for me as in the manga the comedy was amazing the ending was much satisfying and touching
But killing characters never bothered me as gintama isn’t a dark fantasy shonen I really like how the show does kill every character after development of making them deeper, shows the are not meaningless and these characters do have a purpose.
Blood thing is also subjective , as all shonen do have these things look at jojo xD , and again about killing characters it is subjective, gintama never tried to show danger or these is stuff it was alwaya about character interactions and more of political things
So yeah it is subjective and it is important for opinions to differ =)

Using a formula several times doesn’t make something bad people happen to use the term “generic” for anything that is done several times , while the execution can be done better and that makes the difference
In fact thanks for the note but I never thought utsuro represents nihilism =‘) , sure he and nihilism are quite near, He has more things in addition of that (same with my all time favorite villain makishima shougo)
Let me talk about my point of view
First of all : what is the bad about utsuro ?
Him coming out of nowhere , he was written just to end the story , while always shoyou seemed weird for me , the reveal of utsuro was even more bizarre and out of place , gintama always used political things as a source material for their arcs which made them better with no actual villains ,actual villains gintama had were mostly terrible ( jiraya and housen) , but immortality was so strange for gintama , yes strange for the anime that has people who can cut bullet ,also we had nothing that hints the appearance of him …that bothered me a-lot.
This might be a long read , but I wish you have fun reading it =v , and giving me your opinion, I actually knew most of these points but the man makes them more neat and easier to understand , If you have any argues I hope you share them with me as I know changing personal thoughts are quite hard =‘v.
Again thanks for replying and I understand what do you mean , he isn’t the best villain by any means , In fact I don’t see him in my top 10 , but he is still well written more than most villains with the same structure

About the final fight , you have the all rights to think that utsuro wasn’t a deal , and to dislike the way they held his powers , but the fight was nowhere meaningless…
The fight shows gintoki growth as a man , how he overcame everything he feared before , again gintoki had to kill someone dear to him , very dear and near to him ( he literally was heartbroken through the fight and his sad face and tears say A lot about that) , but unlike 10 years ago , he isn’t going to live broken, afraid of making new relationships because he doesn’t want to lose someone dear to him again , this one time you can see him making peace with it super easily, after losing so many people dear to him he should have never been the guy he is but he chooses to make peace with it ,he finally can live with the ones he love not fearing tomorrow taking them from him
That is why many people like the fight
Production wise it was great
Plot wise it didn’t depend on utsuro but takasugi and gintoki , that is why we saw many flashbacks of them through the fight .
Showing the development in each character of them , takasugi also dies after finding peace with everything and understanding how does gintoki think .
I really love the final fight , it was super meaningful, but again you have all the rights not to like how they held utsuros powers

While the last arc was generic , this guy made them a lot better
He is just more complicated that 90% of shonen bad guys
He did want to destroy himself for a reason , he did also want destroy the world for a reason
Which all seam reasonable and understandable
Infact If you understand him truly you can relate to him
He is so damn well written as a villain, And I don’t really know why don’t you like him
