remember the first actual fight in the anime? while going towards the Land of Waves? Sasuke kicked 2 guys in a single panned image :)
about TBATE's animation being compared with Dragon Ball from 40 years ago. well, look at Disney or Studio Ghibli. they created perfect sakuga-filled animations since 1937 without any issues, why would Dragon Ball have an excuse 40 years ago? it doesn't. anyway, there was no holy grail of animation discovered, it's still really difficult to animate properly, there's no 10x animators (with maybe a handful of exceptional individuals). the difference is that 40 years later, animation is more mainstream so budgets are generally higher, so animators can go all out more often, yaay. this brings extra enjoyment where that does happen and does not take away any enjoyment out of the animations that don't have that luxury, like TBATE
about Mushoku, Rudy has been a bastard, one of the worst ones, since the first lines of volume 1, from his previous life. would you expect a bastard to be a saint? of course not. that being said, it's a story, and like any other story, it teaches something, and if you see a character doing something you don't like and say "I would never do that", that's still a lesson well learned. another example, the Bible is full of such stories of murder and decay and sin, while the main lesson is love.
lowkey you might like mushoku tensei a little TOO much if ykwim...
ill leave it at that.
for me, the biggest turn down in animation is poor CGI, but TBATE is fine. I take limited motion over poor CGI any day.
by the way, I started watching the back-catalogue of a-cat, and from what I've seen, they don't do high budget, sakuga-filled episodes, so probably TBATE won't get that either. it's not that they're saving budget for more important scenes, it's just that this is the budget they work with. and it's not just the budget, it feels like a very traditional studio, their techniques are reminiscent of the 70s and 80s anime, though for TBATE they employed some modern lights design with particles. it's an interesting mix, quite unique in my opinion. and their titles didn't "flop" because of bad animation, it's just that the stories they adapted aren't the best. if you look at the score of TBATE, if you take the 10s from fans of the original source like me, and the small marks from all the haters, TBATE is somewhere around a 7.5, and it's just the beginning of the story, which we know is kinda' generic.
there's just one more thing. we know that the adaptation isn't as good as it could be, it could have been a sakuga-filled experience, like Solo Leveling and it is not. but think about it. would anyone ever even think about remaking Solo Leveling? probably not, it's perfect as it is. but One Piece does get a remake, because early on it was mostly limited motion. so, I'm young, I hope to live another 50-60-70 years, I'm down for a remake 20 years from now, so getting a "poorer" adaptation now might just be a blessing in disguise. TBATE has the fanbase for a remake, and with how good the story gets from volume 6 onwards, I'm positive it will get a remake eventually. thing is, the fanbase is young now, and one of us will probably be a film director one day, and TBATE's story leaves a long lasting impression.
And to put it in your favourites...I'm sorry but I can't understand where you're coming from
