I see! So your list includes stories where big events cause the anime to diverge from our reality before the present, even if the actual setting of the anime is much later. Maybe you could make that clear at the top, and then include that those two anime are actually set later, after these events, in 2071/2089 in the list? I think it would make things more clear. I don't think it's wrong to include them though, just caused some confusion! :D

Hello, I saw your "Anime set in a future that has passed" stack after watching Venus Senki. The anime is set in 2089, just stating that colonization of Venus started in 2018, although now it is already all colonized and the war is being fought between factions on it. So I'm not sure if it works in your stack. Still, very interesting stack, if I think of anything missing I will let you know :)

Hmmm yeah I do know about Tove Jansson's "bicurious" phase, though personally I try not to care about the beliefs and lifestyle of the author as that doesn't change the way I perceive and enjoy her work (otherwise I couldn't really enjoy anything at all unless it was made by a Muslim).

However, looking at the show completely on its own, I don't think there's anything obviously untoward that can be seen in Thingumy and Bob or any other characters' relationships - romance is hardly ever talked about in the show except innocently or as a joke, and always between straight pairs (Moomin and Snorkmaiden, Sniff and the girl with amnesia, and that one episode where all the men of Moomin Valley are enchanted by a siren), and of course nothing intimate is shown. I admit this is one of the only anime I've watched completely in English dub, and Thingumy and Bob were given different gendered voices there (though it wasn't always consistent which one was which). That seems to be the case for the Japanese dub as well. Regardless, since it isn't actually mentioned in the show itself that they are a same-gendered couple and even made different genders in most dubs (I think some dubs even make them siblings), and there isn't any kissing or anything like that between them, I consider the show still technically halal. I could show it to someone who knew nothing about the franchise and they wouldn't notice anything queer (pun intended) unless I explicitly told them or if they're purposefully looking for it (which I assume anyone who's looking at my list for recommendations wouldn't be doing). But thanks for the concern! And for being so amicable about it.
