One of the adapted works this year, Mob Kara is a series using the Fantasy clichê with small alterations as an attempt to make it stand out from the rest: slightly futuristic version of Present Day but with fantastical elements; A.K.A the arrival of Dungeons in today's society.
The protagonist; Takagi Kaito is a very generic character with generic personality that's still on high school and is trying to get a shot at dungeons due to a certain promise made by her best friend about her father. Sadly for him, he sucks big time at that and can't progress to the next floors and get better
...
stuff, with no other choice but to hunt slimes at the start of the dungeon for magic crystals and convert that to cash.
Lucky for him, his defective plot armor starts working for a few moments and he discovers a rare monster and dispatches it, revealing a god-tier item drop; a Servant Card. And a card of a Goddess, nontheless. And with that, he's not alone anymore inside that place, having a Valkyrie named Sylphy to aid him. Later on, he also finds a Demon Girl called Lucelia. There's just one small problem: In a case of False Advertisement, instead of beautiful ladies, he gets a Level 1 Chibi version of the same. (Yes, I say Chibi because both in the Light Novel and the Manga, both gains a super-deformed version of herself, while in the anime, they just straight up hitted them with the loli beam with no real explanation as of why they're like that).
The plot continues from here, while having to take care of his new companions, do some Mental Juggling to avoid telling the truth to his best friend and trying not to go broke.
To be very blunt, his development is not great. At all. The usual good boi that's very unfunny, being very dense like a bowling ball and as sharp as one. There is a few minimal interesting concepts here and there, but not enough to sustain his charisma.
The same goes for the other characters, with friend A and B being the typical school friends who do nothing but simping to other girls and... exist. His childhood friend; Katsuragi Haruka being that usual supportive girl that has a crush on him and not liking to talk about dungeons in general due to daddy issues, since her dad went to buy milk inside one and never came back. Jinguuji Airi being the honorable pretty Rich Girl #1 that fights with a Naginata. And SOMEHOW she also has a crush on that useless protag.
The minimal saving grace of the cast is Moriyama Miku and Tanabe Hikari, the Gamer Girl and Rich Girl #2. Their minimal relationship story is somewhat cute and they seem to really care for each other as friends. And those two are implied on having a crush on the protag as well... yikes.
About the Soundtrack; I can barely remember of any here with the exception of the opening song. That alone shows that it only exists there so that the anime is not muted all the time. Very forgetable.
The Animation; Not only it is bellow average, it is also very choppy and even on close-ups it loses details from time to time. For the backgrounds, they at least do the job to present a normal generic scenario.
The Plot; Most of it is about dungeons, but when they're not inside one, the quality drops very fast, with non-interesting topics/events and attempts at humor that misses almost all the time. And then, there's the last two episodes that out of the blue gets very serious and leaves the season 1 with an open ending, not completely solving the problem presented at hand. This last part feels very out of place for an anime like this one.
Overall Enjoyment; Not that big. One problem stacking on another made the watchlong a real drag, making me hope that it somehow could become better on the next episode... but that improvement never really came.
Closing Thoughts; The Anime adaptation of Mob Kara is a disappointment and it is regretable for me to have wasted time watching this. Most of what it tried to do, it didn't landed at all and it left a very mediocre product as a result. I AM NOT willing to re-watch this any time soon.
My final score for the Anime Adaptation of Mob Kara is 3/10.
Since this is not recomended by the website, I'll just breifly mention here. If you really MUST consume this series, then give it a shot to the Manga Adaptation. It it at least better in most, if not every single aspect where the anime adaptation failed.
