Hi, there random stranger visiting my MAL profile!
I don't have anything particularly interesting to write, so instead I will summarize my thought process behind the way I rate anime and manga. It's a mix of what I enjoy and what I consider good. For the sake of simplicity I'll only mention anime, but this applies to both anime and manga, or any other media.
10: Ten is given to the anime that are close to my heart, those that I think are outstandingly good or simply those that were an absolute joy to watch. Ten does not mean they are perfect, but whatever flaws they may have do not hinder my enjoyment of watching them.
9 - 8: Nine and eight are similar to ten, but the difference is that these anime may have a few shortcomings that bother me, preventing them from receiving a ten. It may also be that some aspects did not appeal to me in particular. Despite their flaws though, these are anime I love very much.
7: Seven is given to anime that I love or enjoy considerably, but I can also acknowledge they have great flaws and problems. However, the good points outnumber or overcome the bad parts. It may also be due to the anime having aspects that don't appeal to me, but I still enjoy them.
6: Six is generally given to anime that have some really good points, but have an equal amount of flaws. They are anime I enjoyed to a fair degree, but I would probably not recommend them to others unless I know the person would appreciate the good parts.
5: Five is given to anime that I consider to not be particularly good nor particularly bad. They have some appeal, but also a lot of things I dislike or do not enjoy. They are not anime I would recommend to others, but I can understand the appeal they may have for other people.
4 - 1: This is the negative rating category. Anime I did not like personally or simply anime that I find too flawed to be enjoyable fall under this category. In rare cases, it may be an anime that I know is trashy but I enjoyed it anyway.
