well am just another regular person that likes anime... I got two jobs and planning to go back to college by 2012.. I like to get along with everyone and also respect others as i would like others to respect me.
Yeah you should definitely play the xenosaga games. There a true spectacle of how a story should be written and told. Many japanese role playing games just don't even come close to the complexity and character development that the xenosaga series unleashes.
The problem with that series, is the game play is not its strong point thats for sure. Its one of those games like FF X that is linear, you play through different dungeons, though you can backtrack through a warp device, you have very little freedom to explore new area's on your own, put it this way, its the apposite of a game like FF VII or FF XII. But you being a fan of anime, used to watching long ass cut scenes and FMVS's, you will probably appreciate it, cause the story is so deep, it will suck you in, the moment you start it.
I swear ive been a gamer for a long long time and despite what people say bout games, xenosaga probably has one of the most compelling and deepest stories ive ever seen with the largest cast of characters, each and every single character in that game has a major role to play in the story. This is the kind of story you would only fine written in a fictional novel.
If you play alot of jrpgs you know their are always faults with that kind of set up, like star ocean for example, you play it and pretty much the 3 main characters are the only ones that take part in the story, the rest are all side characters, usual just following the main protagonist around through his journey. But this series is different, all of the characters are important, not just the playable characters to, each and every side character and villain as well.
What i like bout it is, there actually is no real villain in the saga. The term "villain" can be confusing at times, cause what defines a "villain" some one i guess that goes against the laws of the good nature and is pure evil right? Well in this saga, everyone has their own agenda, goals in mind that all have a necessary part to play throughout the plot, Their is no pure evil entity, even though some of the characters look like it, they all have a grand goal and a purpose.
Unlike alot of other cliche jrpgs where this is one main villain that wants to take over the world, that kind of thing. Its very different and more complex then that.
