Yeah the way people rate things has always bothered me. What's the point of having a 10 point scale if everything below 5 is meaningless? MAL even gives you a sort of guideline when you rate something: 10 - Masterpiece, 7 - Good, 5 - Average. I guess people ignore it, or they've forgotten what "average" means.
Lol drop Ryuusago? I haven't even started it yet. I think I saw a funny .gif of it and decided to check it out. Your complaints about it make me want to watch it even more so I can see what's wrong with it.
A 7 and an 8 are not too far off from each other. But aside from that, I do think I rate differently than most MAL users. I know a lot of people rate their anime like school grades, 9 and 10 being "A", 7 being "C", 5 being "F," but I try to make my score a bell curve with 5 being "average" because that makes the most sense to me:
