Though I watched Toonami and occasionally read Shonen Jump as a kid, I wasn't fully taken in by the world of anime and manga until 2014 when I decided to give it a second try.
Dragon Ball Z, Pokemon, Naruto, Inuyasha, Cowboy Bebop, and The Big O were all shows that I remember watching during my childhood, and while I thought they were cool, I never knew what the hell was actually going on in them. Additionally, I used to ask for Shonen Jump magazines just so I could get the Yu-Gi-Oh cards that often came packed in as promotions. After my parents found out I was tossing the magazines without looking at them, they made me start reading them, and by flipping through the pages, I discovered the first series that really interested me: One Piece.
That would be short lived, as by the time I hit my teen years, I had lost all interest in One Piece and anime/manga as a whole. However, that would all change....
One bitter cold Wisconsin winter day, a Facebook friend of mine shared a video of Dragon Ball Z, and instead of skipping it, I clicked on it and watched it. Suddenly, my childhood flashed right in front of me and my interest returned swiftly. After Googling Dragon Ball Z, I found out that there was a series that existed before it (Dragon Ball) and decided to begin my new journey there.
