Friendship is beautiful when it is backed by cold, hard reality, unfettered by flimsy illusions.
Life is bounded by time. Time is money. Ergo, money is life. The world is narrow-minded. It is arrogant. It is cruel. The world does not acknowledge people who do not act according to its point of view. The world is not kind to us. It laughs at us, sneers at us, denies us. It dunks us into the coal tar and the bottom of the sea. In this world, we, who deviate only slightly from the conventions of others, are utterly alone. - Chigusa Yuu, Kuzu to Kinka no Qualidea Why are people born? If people are born only to suffer the hard life, is it meant as some kind of punishment? Or a cynical joke? If that's the case, animals that adhere to the survival strategies programmed in their DNA are far more elegant and simple. If there really is an existence worthy of being called a God, I want to ask him just one thing: Is there really fate in the universe? If a man ignored fate, and ignored his instincts and DNA to love someone else... Dear God, is he really human? Just wondering. I hate the word "fate”. - Kanba Takakura, Mawaru Penguindrum I hate the word “fate.” Birth, encounters, partings, success and failures, fortune and misfortunes in life. If our lives are already set in stone by fate, then why are we even born? There are those born to wealthy families, those born to beautiful mothers, and those born into the middle of war or poverty. If that’s all caused by fate, then God is incredibly unfair and cruel. Because, ever since that day, none of us had a future and the only certain thing was that we wouldn’t amount to anything. - Shouma Takakura, Mawaru Penguindrum "I want to beat them. Even though I'm not cool, or strong, or just, or beautiful, or cute, or pretty, I want to beat the cool, strong, just, beautiful, cute, and pretty people. Even though I wasn't blessed with talent, even though I'm stupid and have a bad personality, have bad grades, am misguided and am a good for nothing, I want to beat the talented, smart, likeable, overachieving people. I want to beat those with friends when I can't have friends. I want to beat the people who work hard when I can't work hard. I want to beat the victorious people when I can't win. I want to beat the happy people when I'm miserable. Even if I'm hated, even if I'm despised, even if I'm useless, I want to prove that I'm better than the main characters!" - Misogi Kumagawa, Medaka Box "And there you go. You heard her, Iri. Our Heroic Spirit over there considers a battlefield to be better than Hell. What a joke. A battlefield is Hell itself. There's no hope to be had on one. There is nothing but unspeakable despair. Just a soulless crime we call victory, paid for by the pain of the defeated. But humanity has never recognized this truth. And the reason is that, in every era, a dazzling hero has blinded the people with their legends, and kept them from seeing the evil of bloodshed they bring. True human nature has not advanced a step beyond the Stone Age." - Kiritsugu Emiya, Fate/Zero "The fake is of far greater value. In its deliberate attempt to be real, it is more real than the real thing." ~Kaiki Deishu, Monogatari Series "I know love. The convenience store was selling it. For 298 yen." - Mayoi Hachikuji, Monogatari Series "The first requirement of being a hero isn’t being right. It’s being strong. That’s why the hero always wins." - Araragi Koyomi, Monogatari Series "It feels like time is passing so quickly. Damn you, Einstein. You were right. The passage of time depends entirely on where you're standing. Relativity Theory... it's so romantic. But it's just so tragic too."[b] - Kurisu Makise, Steins;Gate Youth is a hoax. It's evil. People who make a big deal of their "youth", are just inviting trouble. They try to keep everything going on around them. For them, if there's something that has to do with their "youth", they jump at it without a second thought. From normal daily life, to rebelling against the view of society. If you fall in with them - lies, secrets, failure, and even crimes await you. But for them, it's just a spice of life. And if failure is also a mark of "youth", then isn't it ironic, that a person who failed to make any friends, is also technically leading his "youth"? Though I wonder if they would agree. Everything runs on their schedule. Let me be clear. The people who enjoy their "youth", will eventually fall apart. – Hikigaya Hachiman, Oreigaru I hate nice girls. Just exchanging pleasantries with them makes me curious, and texting each other makes me feel restless. If I get a call, for the rest of the day, I’ll keep checking my call history with a stupid grin on my face. But I know the truth. They’re just being nice. Anyone nice to me is nice to others too. But I always find myself on the verge of forgetting that. If the truth is a cruel mistress, then a lie must be a nice girl. And so, niceness is a lie. I would always hold expectation. I would always misunderstand. At some point, I stopped hoping. An experienced loner never falls for the same trap twice. A lone warrior, surviving hundreds of battles. When it comes to losing, I’m the strongest. That’s why, no matter what happens, I will always hate nice girls. – Hikigaya Hachiman, Oreigaru "The past makes you wanna die out of regret and the future makes you depressed out of anxiety. So by elimination, the present is likely the happiest time." - Hikigaya Hachiman, Oregairu I’m the Strongest Level 5, I don’t need brats worrying about me. Listen, even if someone is suffering before you, the kind of person that can take up arms without hesitation to shoot down the villain is no better than a villain himself. The kind that doesn’t care about others, doesn’t give 2nd chances; someone that kills if given a reason, is definitely not a hero. You don’t have to become that kind of person. That’s my specialty. Only I have to go through that. – Accelerator, Toaru vol. 19 "This is not a negotiation, a suggestion, a deal, an entreaty, an agreement, a compromise, or a capitulation. It’s my triumphant return, you fuckers." – Accelerator, Toaru vol. 22 "You have no purpose? That's pitiful, too. You are still mistaken. Being hollow means you can cram so much in there, you know. How fortunate you are. What more could you want for your future?" – Aozaki Touko, Kara no kyoukai "A 'Personality' starts off as something like a cube. When we're young, we clumsily bump our corners against other people in the form of childish conflicts. Eventually, our sharp edges are worn away to leave something more like a sphere. That's more or less what people are describing when they say someone's 'softened.' Moderate collisions with others help us mature. But when those first impacts are too strong, they can have a different effect: instead of losing our corners little by little, we splinter in strange, harsh ways, warping into crooked shapes. Once crooked, it's hard to become a sphere. Even as people around them mellow, their sharpness only grows harsher, and everyone who approaches ends up getting hurt. But even the most warped human beings started the same as everyone else. Sometimes they look to the past and grieve. Sometimes they wonder if it's not too late to reshape themselves. And because they know it's an empty dream, they grieve once again." - Kazami Yuuji, Grisaia "Having feelings for someone just brings sorrow to someone else. Someone always gets sacrificed and suffers. If this is what it means to fall in love, then falling in love is terrible." - Hikari Sakishima, Nagi no Asukara Feelings of romantic love are, in the end, just some chemical reaction. Under the right conditions, they occur no matter who the other person is. - Kaoru Yamazaki, Welcome to the N.H.K. Life is suffering. It is hard. The world is cursed, people are cursed, but still we wish to live. – Cursed Man, Mononoke Hime What's wrong, why not shot? Your opponent is just a school boy, or have you finally realized. The only ones who should kill are those who are prepared to be killed! – Lelouch, Code Geass "All men ... are NOT created equal! Some are born swifter afoot, some with greater beauty, some are born into poverty and others born sick and feeble. Both in birth and upbringing, in sheer scope of ability every human is inherently different; Yes that is why people discriminate against one another, which is why there is struggle, competition and the unfaltering march of progress. Inequality is not wrong, equality is." - Charles Zi Brittania, Code Geass “A long time ago, Nunally, Suzaku, and I talked about something. We wondered what happiness would look like if we could give it a physical form. If I'm not mistaken, I think it was Suzaku that said that the shape of happiness might resemble glass. His reasoning made sense. He said that even though you don't usually notice it, it's still definitely there. You merely have to change your point of view slightly, and then that glass will sparkle when it reflects the light. I doubt that anything else could argue its own existence more eloquently.” – Lelouch, Code Geass "What do you do when there is an evil you cannot defeat by just means? Do you stain your hands with evil to destroy evil? Or do you remain steadfastly just and righteous even if it means surrendering to evil?" – Lelouch, Code Geass “The hopes of my friends are etched upon its body; turning the infinite darkness into light. Unmatched in heaven and earth. One Machine to equal the Gods; Super Galaxy Gurren Lagann! I'll show you... the power of the human race” – Simon, TTGL “Don't underestimate us. We don't care about time, or space or... multi-dimensional whatevers! We don't give a damn about that. Force your way down a path YOU choose to take, and do it all yourself! That's the way Team Dai-Gurren rolls!” – Simon, TTGL “MARK MY WORDS...! This drill will open a hole in the universe. And that hole will be a path for those behind us. The dreams of those who have fallen! The hopes of those who will follow! Those two sets of dreams weave together into a double helix, drilling a path towards tomorrow! And THAT'S Tengen Toppa! That's Gurren-Lagann! My drill is the drill, that creates the HEAVENS!” – Simon, TTGL “Kamina: We brawlers are sustained by willpower, even when mocked as reckless and crazy! Simon: If there's a wall in our way, then we smash it down! If there isn't a path then we carve one ourselves! Both: The magma of our souls burns with a mighty flame! Super Ultra Combining, Gurren Lagann! Simon: Just who... Kamina: In the hell... Both: DO YOU THINK WE ARE!?” - TTGL “Nia: Even when trapped by karma's cycle... Yoko: The dreams we left behind will open the door! Leeron: Even if the universe stands in our way! Viral: Our seething blood will determine what we'll be! Simon: We'll break through time and space! Team Dai-Gurren: And defy all who would stop us, to grab hold of our path! Simon: Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann! Team Dai-Gurren: JUST WHO THE HELL DO YOU THINK WE ARE?!” - TTGL [/i][/center] |

Where did you get so much time from? Didn't you have school or university or work? But now I see why you managed to complete so many shows in such a short amount of time.
Sometimes I also watch a series in one or two days. I am addicted to binge watching; once I watched D.Gray-man for a week non-stop but I am terrified to even think about that now. I think all of it was a waste of time.
Yes, I also google my questions because my teachers never give me satisfying answers.
I am glad to know there are people who learn by themselves just like me. The school system is trash.
Since you learn Chinese and know some things about the Chinese culture, could you please explain why Quan Zhi Gao Shou exists? I mean, it is entirely about a computer game and about full-time gamers, but aren't the Chinese young people supposed to always study? I know Chinese students and know that this is not a stereotype.
Haha, it is funny that you don't even want to change. Is it the final stage of your conversion into an otaku? ^^
I dunno, I watched Code Geass in dub and got a perfect score on the TOEFL listening part. But if you never watch dubbed anime then maybe you should be slightly worried. Anyways, I am sure you will be fine. Good luck!
Is Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso really that good and inspiring?
ACCA's opening is a masterpiece among openings. Kuzu no Honkai had a nice art but it was way too lewd and unbearable to watch because of the plot.
Well, I think Arabic and the likes (including Chinese and Japanese) beat Indo-European languages, no matter if they are Roman or Slavic. Japanese native speakers have to learn a lot of characters, Arabic script excludes vowels and it has a lot of dialects.
That's very persistent of you. I wouldn't go as far as to watch every single show even though I too value good series. After all, I can use reviews or other people's recommendations.
I think your memory just gets used to remembering anime/manga- related things. Also, it is easier to memorize when your mind is not stiff, and this is why it is harder to remember material taught at school (because you are too focused on the fact that you must learn). I hate school so much, I can barely force myself to sit through classes, let alone learn something. Then I just study the school program by myself during free time at my own pace, and get high results because when I learn that way, I am relaxed and enjoy it nearly as much as a good book or an anime series.
Yes, I see that you easily give 10s. However, I can understand why you rated high some of the series I even regretted watching.
Haha, I agree, you must be an otaku if those are your only form of entertainment. But if you are young, you may have a chance for redemption once you become too busy or find new hobbies.
I think your English is excellent, I wouldn't have imagined you might have any problems with it. How come you developed such good writing skills without any practice in listening?
Yes, try watching that season raw. Good luck!
Thanks for the advice! I have some Japanese textbooks, and simply browsing through them makes my head ache. But Japanese or not, it is nice to know that someone else is self-studying languages.
I feel you, right now, I listen only to anime OP/ED/OSTs. But in general, I listen to different genres. Most of the English songs I listen to are from AMVs too and I wonder if I have grown to like them solely because of those AMVs.
Come to think of it, I have always been starting new languages only because of music.
I liked the Reikenzan Japanese OP song.
Just look at all those complains about their difficulty all over the internet. Even as native speakers, we had two separate classes: Russian Literature and Russian Language, which was basically eleven years of learning orthography. Thankfully, I had a natural talent for writing without mistakes, but I was more of an exception.
Wait, if you are reluctant to start anything non-Japanese, why do you watch Chinese anime?
By the way, nice profile picture. Accelerator is one of my favourite characters too.
Yes, I see that you watch a lot of shows at once. Don't they get mixed up in your head? And aren't most of them easily forgettable?
I don't mind English dub. I started watching anime to improve my accent before the TOEFL, and even now I try to watch dubbed versions so that I can tell myself that I am not just wasting time, but also improving my English (which is a lie.)
Ah, I see. But they constantly mention how much Ouriko has improved even though it is supposed to be hard with his base. And they never show him training in the second season so I wonder if he uses that technique too.
I watched the Huyao opening, it looks violent enough, so I will give it a try.
It doesn't matter to me if you were forced or not, I am content just with the fact that you also self-study languages. You will now serve as motivation for me.
I had a similar situation- I studied a language at school I didn't care much about, but it would be a shame to simply quit half-way through and waste all the time I sacrificed.
Well, that language I learned was an Asian one, and it has a similar sentence structure and general logic as Japanese, though of course that language does not use characters, which I think are the hardest to master, just like you described it. At the same time, Japanese does not have cases and many other things that exist in Indo-European or Turkic languages.
Chinese has tones and that annoying "sh" sound though.
Haha, that's true, it is all about the willpower.
It's interesting how we both don't particularly like our native languages.
So do you mean you listen to Japanese music?
As for grammar rules, Italian has more of them than French, but less than German or Russian, which is fine by me.
Do you watch Reikenzan raw? Since english subs come out late and on different dates, I watch it in the terrible Russian one voice fan dub (which comes out even earlier than the Japanese raw episode.) But that voice is so annoying, I don't know why I torture myself that much :/ though I remember when I was a child I watched many Disney movies in one voice dub and didn't mind it at all.
By the way, I still do not get it, does Ouriku use the blood technique himself or is it just the villagers?
It sounds interesting. I tried searching for the cultivation bases and found nothing that made sense. Now I got intrigued too.
Another thing that I like about the show is that even though Ouriku has a rare spirit base, no one cares, and it plays little role in the show, unlike in those cliched series where it would have been a sign that you must save the world or of something crappy like that.
I am not a fan of yaoi or shounen ai, but I don't mind it; to me it all is a friendship or bromance at most (unless the characters have actual sex, that is.)
Same with me, I just search for good shows.
Still, even short 10 episodes are quite a long time to wait for something interesting to happen. And there seem to be too many female characters.
I dropped about 20 series after the first episode. Dropping early saves time.
I can't believe it, both Chinese and Japanese! Are you perchance an avid language learner too? I want to study Japanese some time later, so right now I read manga mostly in German.
I am so jealous that soon you will be reading untranslated novels and comics.
Naturalmente.
I don't know, I miss Oubu and the humour of the first season. The second season is just all serious talk and no jokes. I liked the last episode though, I think the show is finally getting better. Really, ep.7 was probably the best of both seasons so far.
Oh, so it is the same concept present throughout the Chinese shows?
I will try Ling Qi, the premise sounds promising. Huyao doesn't look like my kind of thing.
Do you perchance learn Chinese or Japanese?
Haha, don't be sorry, you are interesting to read.
Buona giornata!
I see you are also one of the very few people who watch Reikenzan. How do you like the second season so far?
Fun Fact: Hachiman was the 4th winner of the Anime of the Season Poll.
