I remember waking up really really early to watch Astroboy when I was pretty small. Then Sailor Moon hit the air and I was hooked on that too. I didn't realize what I was watching...I just knew I liked it.
It wasn't until I was 17 when I joined the military and went off to basic did I find my passion with anime. My friend Robert Parent introduced me to it through Dragonball Z and Record of Lotoss War. It was right then and there my whole life changed. I started buying and collection titles on VHS. When DVD's came out I waited each month to buy Gasakari's new volume for 30 bucks a pop :)
Things have chaged alot. I got robbed many years back and they cleaned out my entire appartment. I quit buying anime for years and just downloaded like crazy. Then a few years back I got back into the whole swing of things and have done a complete 360 and have amassed a very impressive collection of everything anime.
Alot has changed in my life since I was a wee lad sitting infront of a "bunny-eared" TV vegging out to a boy robot...but my love for this genre remains strong and hopefully always will :)

The director of Rain Town actually made it as a graduation film project when he was graduating from college (which is why it is not so well known). It was not made for commercial gain and is freely available. You can watch it easily and legally online by going to youtube.com and searching for "rain town." It will be the first result.
btw, thanks for liking my review =)
Instead I would suggest introducing her to something far better suited to the novice... Eiken perhaps.
Yes, the artwork was very special. Yes, the story was well written. Yes, some of the characters were great. Balsa, she only has one parallel in anime I have watched and that would be Kenshin Himura in their vow to never kill again.
What I found for this story, however, was a lack of something that I still can't quite put my finger upon. I watched it and liked it, but was not "grabbed" by it. Maybe what it lacked for me was heart (or maybe spirit?) I did keep it and will likely watch it again someday. I rated it only 7, but that, in my system, is still a good score. I can safely recommend a title that I rate 7.
I am glad you found it so good. We, of course, would never totally agree on everything, so I don't worry about the disparity in rating. We each have our tastes and experiences which influence our viewing. Nuf said there, and Thanks for another nice review.
So, you remember watching Astro Boy when you were young? I watched it in 1963....I was a senior in high school. And, Record of Lodoss War is still one I thoroughly enjoy.
If you are anything like me, you will love anime the rest of your life. Please read my Profile Page and see if we are alike, ne?
