You're basically saying criticism is useless unless you explicitly state a better alternative. Saekano is certainly playing around with harem tropes. It takes the usual harem formula (because how do you play around with harem without actually having a harem), but subverts it by having a deuteragonist who acts completely normally and contrasts and foils the other characters. In some ways, making the rest of the cast a typical harem cast is necessary to achieve what the shows wants to do.
