AniList is my go-to tracker, but I also use MyAnimeList as a backup. Here's how my rating works:
- 3 and below - Avoid. The absolute bottom tier. It's either a hate-watch/read or something I couldn't bear to continue. Every aspect—the plot, characters, artwork—just doesn't click with me. The lower the score, the more I believe this media should not exist.
- 4 - Subpar. Consuming this was a struggle. I constantly checked how much was left, hoping it would somehow improve. Most likely a series I dropped due to lack of interest or patience.
- 5 - Mediocre. A passable entry with noticeable flaws that hindered my enjoyment. It might have had a glaring plot hole, pacing issues, or even fallen victim to the silliness of hentai with its mindless characters and plot.
- 6 - Decent. A series that I liked but probably wouldn't revisit. It had at least one significant flaw holding it back.
- 7 - Good. Despite a minor flaw or two, this media stood out as one of the better ones I've experienced. Time well spent, for sure.
- 8 - Great. Top-tier material with exceptional characterization and plot. It elicited strong physical and emotional reactions—I found myself teary-eyed during sad moments, bursting into laughter and disturbing my neighbors during funny scenes, or left speechless with dropped jaws during shocking twists.
- 9 - Excellent. Reserved for works that go above and beyond, impacting me on a personal level. It's a rare gem that truly stands out.
- 10 - Masterpiece. This is the pinnacle of my rating system. Reserved for those truly exceptional works that transcend all expectations. An absolute masterpiece, a life-changing experience that leaves a lasting impact on my heart and mind.
Everything is my personal opinion. I highly recommend anything rated
8 or higher, but even a series I rated
10 still has flaws. I prioritize characterization; it might have a subpar art style or a weak plot, but I'll still view it favorably. I also rarely drop stuff because I don't jump into them blindly. (Of course, unless it's for the meme!)
If I happened to rate your favorite series low, please understand it was to spite you personally. ;-)
