Can't decide on a short list of favorite anime -- pretty much all of the shows I rate 10 are on my favorites list. I guess some (or most?) shows that I've rated 9 are also what I would consider "favorite."
Anything below a 9 for me will never qualify as a favorite; a favorite will never be a score below a 9. This is the only way I've come up with to effectively bypass the 10 favorites limit on MAL. So if you want an idea of what my favorite anime are, look through my anime list and look for 10s and 9s. Note, I have by no means a refined taste in anime lol.
I also rarely score any anime below a 4 or 5; this isn't because I'm super nice or generous -- I'm just not a critic that'd watch and review anime I find unwatchable. I'll just drop and put a 4 or 5 down. In my opinion, it's impossible to give both a fair and thorough assessment of an anime one doesn't find entertaining -- the bias is simply unavoidable at the end of the day. Therefore, I don't bother and just try my best to be fair -- I'll simply drop the show and put a 5 down. Why a 5? Because I (sub)consciously avoid any shows rated below a 6...and rating such shows below a 4 or 5 without watching them in their entirety would simply be too unfair -- that is, I don't think I have the right to say any anime I've only partially watched is really truly "appalling".
I also watch anime at high speeds. For anime that's boring to me I'll generally go through faster, like 3x speed. Parts without dialogue I can probably double that speed to about 5-6x. If I find an anime entertaining I'll usually slow down to no more than 2x speed.

Since the season is so long, and it’s at least an &…I’ll round up to 9.
