Love is War, at least for the first 50% of its runtime, is one of the, if not the best, mangas i have ever had the pleasure of reading. All up until chapter 135-140, there is carefully planned character development and delightful comedy paired with actual tension in the character interactions. This all culminates in the Confession Arc, which is my favorite arc in any animanga of all time. After a noticeable peak in chapter 135, the manga for the most part maintains its extremely high brow comedy and lovely character interactions, with slight decay as the story goes on. Around chapter 215 or so, where Kaguya and Shirogane have sex, the manga completely loses its direction. Understandable, as after the couple has sex, what else is there progression wise? Aka Akasaka could've done something else with it, but instead he enters the readers into the "Buddha Stone's Begging Bowl" arc, or as I like to refer to it, the "Miko Iino Gamer Arc". This shit lasts for 15 chapters, and there is quite literally 0 meaningful development for any involved characters, as the arc was so poorly received that the author decided to completely disregard the new introduced character as well as the small amounts of development that Miko and Ishigami get. Directly after the end of that arc, Kaguya out of nowhere is kidnapped by the Shinomiya family to be forced into an arranged marriage to simmer down family feuds. Talk about a sharp change in tone, huh? Now, a manga that rose to greatness through two tsunderes battling it out with their genius level wits has turned into a student council trying to wage war on a multi-trillion yen business conglomerate. I think rating it a 9 is insultingly low considering the greatness of the first 70-80% of its runtime, but the last 40 chapters or so have displayed such lack of nuance in continuity and writing strength that I cant rate it a 10 in good conscience anymore. I still love this manga, and hope that this final arc can have a powerful resolution.
pretty cool other than that
