Have been a VERY big anime fan, have been watching it my entire life. Some people are not interested in anime due to its common Japanese manga style, besides that, I found unique ones that I love. Like 70's & 80's animation: elegant & painterly style, with thick & thin brush strokes and distorted limbs at fighting scenes that conveys great energy; and beautiful floral patterns on characters' clothes, and painterly scenery (see Katanagatari episode 7 and Secret of Kells).
Am a graphic designer who love art and details. Am so picky.
Favorite anime types: rich animation (70's & 80's) & excellent plot, fantasy, adventure, realistic, spiritual, slice of life, quiet pure love, good character development and got climax in story(the main character must not be doing dumb things). Unique and old-school animation: Utena and Terra e~. Slice of life comedy, no stupid girls and guys flirting.
Good anime is a little of everything: 30% action & fighting, 30% love, good & unique story, 20% magnificent animation and scenes, & 20% something else (boring talks about the story). Story develops slow to intense to climax!
Dislike anime types: All-romance, All-mecha, all-war, all-talking, all-extremely fast & nonsense talking, all-violent, all-war, dark, scary, depressing, harsh, bloody, disgusting, 90% silly-dumb-girly-noisy puppy love, arrogant guy characters, Animation and plot that's cliche and common.
I like mature characters, like realistic & practical decisions that made by those characters. Like Seirei no Moribito, it's a fantasy anime, but I love how the main characters and everyone is fighting so hard to live, how nobody in there is portrayed as a bad guy, but there is a reason why they are doing certain things, taking certain jobs. Terra e~ is just so beautiful, its character design and the animation.
