Well, it's because I've always been a reader my entire life, and I've enjoyed analyzing works and dissecting more implicit meanings behind the media I experience, so I thought I mine as well devote my studies to it. My ultimate goal is to become a librarian though... you need a master's degree for that, so the bachelor's in English is more so a stepping stone toward a bigger dream rather than an ultimate career path.
Nice! The only Italian literature I've read is some of Dante Alighieri's Divine Comedy, specifically Inferno and some of Purgatorio. That's a cool major, what would make you want to switch to psychology?
I'm literally taking a class centered around Oscar Wilde next term xD
Well, yes, I do read, I’m an English Major after all hahaha. Although, a lot of my free time is spent watching anime and reading manga since reading is basically my job at the moment. I have No Longer Human, The Count of Monte Cristo, and Crime and Punishment all on my shelf, but I haven’t gotten around to them yet sadly. I’ll probably start with Crime and Punishment sometime soon.
I like Shakespeare a lot, my favorite is Hamlet (he invented emo) but I also really enjoy The Tempest and Romeo and Juliet. Without Shakespeare, I don’t think English or so many of the narratives (like the tragic love story) would be as prevalent as they are today, so understanding a work like Romeo and Juliet for example helps one understand the archetypes presented within other media more adeptly imo
What are some of your other favorite authors and books? I like Siddartha by Herman Hesse and Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep a lot
