I am open to most genres of anime, but my preferences lie with my likes above. Im a sucker for good shounen, though I find the genre to be dead as of late. My favorite genre is mecha and intelligent/thoughtful sci-fi, but I tend not to enjoy shows that are overly depressive and downtrodden, such as most cyberpunk. Though not at the top of my list of things to look for, I have been known to enjoy a good romance anime, and as a guilty pleasure shows with cute girls and diabetes level jpop OPs.

I judge anime most strongly on their plot, concepts/creativity, and themes. However, since anime is usually character based, bad characters can ruin an otherwise decent show. Exceptional art that takes advantage of the anime medium can also boost my enjoyment of a show substantially. Hand drawn cel animation is my favorite, but that doesnt mean I shun modern animation techniques either, since both can be equally impressive in their own right. In other words, well done is well done.

Anime dislikes:
- Randomness for the sake of it
- The overusage of tropes in modern anime
- Fan pandering
- Angsty emo teens

One thing that peevs me about today's anime is how they overuse the high school student setting in practically every genre possible. Whatever happened to the idea of worldbuilding in fiction I will never know. Another thing I hate is when an anime with a great premise becomes ruined by turning out to be just another sub-par romcom with little to no plot development. Occasionally it works, but usually it doesnt.
