I've been an anime fan since middle school when I began to seriously watch anime after seeing an episode of .hack//Sign
Now however, I'm experiencing a bit of trouble finding anime I enjoy, which is why I signed up for this sight. I can still find good manga, but I am loosing hope for anime.
The main problem is, I don't identify with high schoolers any more. That means that most drama and character development that goes on surrounding high school just seems stupid.
But I have other issues. I've seen too many anime and am getting sick of character types and cliche plots. Too many characters don't feel as if they have a soul and are just poor carbon copies of the anime they originally appeared in. Especial the girls in the shounen anime who seem to be placed their just for little boys to ogle. And I don't watch the shoujo stuff since, although their story tends to be better, their action is terrible. Action is very important in my book but I have become particular about that as well, good action needs a decent level of intricacy and not simply flashing lights and explosions.
What I want is a merger between the fast pace of an anime and the depth of a sci-fi or fantasy novel all wrapped in some stunning artwork. Is that so much to ask?
