If you like sci-fi so much you should watch Irresponsible Captain Tylor. (Found your page cause you have one of the people listed from my favorite list... the voice actress from heroic age). Its sort of the comedy version of sci-fi... you spend most your time watching it wondering if Captain Tylor is a genius or an idiot :D - I came to a conclusion but I wont say mine so I do not impact yours :)

Try some of the animes I rated 10 in my list, I think they may surprise you.

1. Hajime no Ippo - Best anime ever made - Its about boxing how can it be good? God you will be in for a big surprise, be ready to remove one of your top 5 animes from your favorites :D
2. Hikaru no Go - an anime about a board game... amazing not because its about a board game but because the author manages to make it good! You may like that since you liked Legend of Galactic Heroes - one of the things that made that series great was its strategic element.
3. Hunter x Hunter - An anime you can relax to, possibly one of the best in the adventure genre. The first episode is very slow paced, the following two pick it up a little but its enough to keep you watching then suddenly when you hit episode 6 bang... the anime kicks off into one of the best written adventure stories ever.

I have more recommendations but I am sure those will do for now :D, let me know how it goes.
