Ahhh, I felt the same way when I first made my list. Looking back now, I'm thinking maybe I was a tad too hard on these series I love so much...
Akira, I guess, really hit me because of how much I connected to the character of Tetsuo. I saw in him a very real human being, and someone that anyone who has ever felt like an outcast could very well become. I mean, the kid has felt unwanted and abandoned since he was born, and being wit his friends (Kaneda's gang) only increased his inferiority complex by being weaker than all of them. So when he gains powers far beyond human limits, his first thought is to set himself up as a sort of "King" of Neo Tokyo. The throne in the Olympic Dome, the cape...all of it hinted towards a kid's juvenile dreams of greatness and respect. Of course we all saw what happened when that power went out of control, but...
I guess I was a lot like Tetsuo in high school- feelings of inferiority and a seeming lack of respect from others. High School is also when I first watched Akira, and I was shocked to see myself so strongly in Tetsuo...almost like I was looking in a dark mirror.
Wow, sorry for laying that on so thick all at once, 'specially seeing as we've talked only barely. But yeah. Akira is my favorite anime for a good reason.
Side note: You and my girlfriend would get along great. Both of you love Loveless, Gravitation, and Ouran Host Club.
Ahhhh, c'mon. If there's one anime in this world that deserves a 10, it's Akira. Though I have to give you respect for not throwing around 10's too often.
Errr...sorry if that came across as rude or anything. It's nice to meet you!
Hey elrooto, welcome to MAL!
That's twice I've said that. I really should stop repeating myself repeating myself.
Looks like your settled in already. =p
