Firstly, thank you so much for mentioning the wordplay aspect of Utena in your review. I almost always forget it or take it for granted because there is so much more for me to focus on as the series progresses and unfortunately I have the memory capacity of an Intel 1103 even for things as important as syntax or contextual abnormalities.
However, I don't agree that all the mysteries of Ohtori Academy have been answered for by the end of the series/movie, but that we've only just tapped the surface of what Ohtori had to offer in terms of its secrets and that we've learned only about the events unveiled to us throughout the series.
Yet, the reason why I am actually writing is to address this particular statement: "The art...looks a little more dated than the show actually is, which is one of the shows only drawbacks."
Personally, I never considered the dated feeling of Utena to be a drawback so much as it was one of those very specific details added as a way to communicate the intend feeling, setting or mood of the series. It did feel dated to me (I never remember that it was made in 1999), but that only added to it for me. I felt as though I were watching one of the epic Great series of the 70s and 80s rather than something so new, flashy or ultimately forgettable.
well thats too bad since we have similar tastes in anime n all
