well, your logic to not push someone to do things that they consider uncomfortable or traumatic is the reason as to why there are so many hikikomori or shut in in Japan right now. People who experienced traumatic events in the past like bullying that are afraid of facing the outside world just stay in their homes with their parents. Those peoples are being shut in nit just because they were bullied but because their parents and people close to them are afraid to push them to move on and enjoy live to the fullest

have you ever heard the saying tat blood is thicker than water. Your mother might have beaten you your entire live but that doesn't change the fact that she is you mother that gave birth to you. Can you really tell me that you can realistically hate your parents your entire live. Every person is different and you can't just push your own morality and sensibility to others as if they are facts. The anime also did a great job showing that she did all of that because she was worried about the mc's future after she dies.
