name’s yji. tired college student barely clinging to life, fueled by tea, bad decisions, and the sheer refusal to let a mid manga win.
seldom anime watcher but full-time manga reader because at least i can suffer at my own pace. right now, i'm trying to document
every manga i've read, which is about as fun as trying to remember what you had for lunch last tuesday. updates are sporadic &
disorganized. i try to write reviews, but if a series is too popular or if my brain refuses to form coherent thoughts, i just won’t.
expect passionate essays about fictional men, unwarranted slander towards fan-favorite series, and the occasional moment of deep
philosophical reflection on why i continue to suffer for a medium that hates me back. if you see me giving a 10, just know it was
deserving of it (or i was emotionally compromised at the time). my favorites change constantly, so don’t be surprised if something
disappears overnight. it’s not you, it’s me. or the fact that i made a bad decision at 2 a.m. and now i have to pretend it never happened.
welcome to my list. enjoy the chaos. or don’t. i’ll still be here, adding another manga i probably won’t remember reading next week.
Hi,
I read it in Japanese (https://tonarinoyj.jp/episode/2550912965159409071), so I’m not sure if any team has picked it up for translation. You might want to check MangaUpdates or Dex for updates. Sorry I couldn’t be of more help!
No worries for the late reply! I'm sorry for my late response too. Let’s just agree that whenever we reply late, it’s totally fine since we’ll eventually get back to each other anyway. I'm doing well, hope you're doing well too! ^_^
About the MRC, I want to join but the whole process seems a bit complicated and I'm not really sure how it works. How’s it going for you so far? Also, what were the WLW recs you mentioned? :)
Oh god, I totally relate! Those short weekly releases were painful to wait for. I’d always hit the end and just sit there like, “That’s it?! I have to wait another week?!” But yeah, it’s great that the manga has stayed consistent and enjoyable over time. Definitely worth keeping up with, and I seriously can’t wait for the anime! That’s great that you’re tackling both your PTR and the MRC challenge at the same time, killing two birds with one stone. Restart wa Tadaima no Ato de sounds interesting! I haven’t read it yet, but now I’m curious, especially since the sequel has an even higher rating. I looked it up and there seems to be a movie or show for it too, so I might check that out as well. Let me know how it turns out! :D
I actually had that conversation on Dynasty Reader! The discussions there are really fun and interesting (and sometimes chaotic lol). The people there are true yuri lovers. I’ve heard similar things about AniList’s forums being kind of dead, but at least when discussions do happen, they tend to be pretty thoughtful. And yes, I totally agree, if they ever animate that whimsically cute moment with a green swirl background, it would be such a perfect tribute to the manga. Any OG fan would lose their mind! >_<
No problem at all, happy to help! Yeah, that manga definitely has a mix of reactions. I think stories like that, where opinions range from amazing to controversial, can be really interesting to read because you never know which side you’ll land on. The sexual assault complaints are definitely something to be aware of. It really depends on how the story handles it and personal tolerance for those themes. Either way, I’m curious to hear your thoughts once you get around to reading it!
Haha, yeah! I love ranting about yuri manga so much, but sometimes I feel like I rant too much, so I totally get what you mean. But feel free to rant to me whenever you find a manga or something you need to yap about!
No worries at all! Haha, that scene had so much potential, and yet they still went the completely hetero route... tragic. I’m so with you on wanting to read or watch more retro WLW series. There’s just something about that aesthetic that hits different, and Enidewi really captures that vibe. The art style is gorgeous. If you’re interested, I’d recommend Spider Lilies! I’m not sure if it’s exactly retro, but it’s definitely WLW, and I really enjoyed it when I watched it.
Yeah, I thought the same about AJ and Rarity! In my opinion, they have the most chemistry, they’re really cute together, and they balance each other out so well. But a lot of people argue that AJ and Rainbow Dash make the better pair since they’ve known each other the longest and have that playful love-hate dynamic. That being said, if we’re talking about the opposites attract trope, then RD and Fluttershy definitely look adorable together too!
No problem! For Buying a Classmate Once a Week, I’d personally recommend the LN over the manga, mainly because the LN is older, so a lot of key moments have already happened there. The manga was only recently released, so it’s still catching up and moves at a slower pace. But if you prefer a more visual experience, the manga is still a solid option! And yeah, I totally get what you mean about Ayaka is in Love with Hiroko. It had its moments, but the pacing felt a bit slow at times. I’d say it was good but not amazing. That said, their dynamic was definitely a highlight! Glad to hear Collectors caught your interest! I’d love to hear your thoughts on it once you get into it. Hope you enjoy!
Yeah, I totally get that! NTR Trap and Citrus both had so many uncomfortable moments that felt so forced, like the story was just throwing messy drama at the characters to rush the romance. It honestly made it hard to enjoy. Since you didn’t like those, I’m pretty sure you won’t like Yuri is My Job because it’s pretty similar, at least the manga is. And yeah, I feel like a lot of people read them out of curiosity or because they’re such well-known WLW titles, whether for good or bad reasons. Social media definitely plays a role too. I’ve seen so many edits of them on TikTok and IG that make them look way better than they actually are.
No problem! Yeah, it’s a super common misconception, especially since the way the West presents yuri often leans into the more sexualized side, while in Japan, it’s much broader and includes everything from wholesome romance to more serious emotional narratives. And honestly, I get why you still say WLW works, manga, or series. It just feels like a safe, all-encompassing term that avoids any confusion. Plus, it makes it clear you’re talking about any kind of sapphic story without getting into the terminology debate.
True, very true. And yeah, the whole “it’s just fiction” argument completely ignores the fact that fiction influences how people see things. Sure, not every story has to be deep or realistic, but when it comes to topics like sexuality and relationships, bad portrayals can reinforce real-world misconceptions. Queer people exist in all kinds of relationships, some are still figuring things out, some deal with struggles, and yeah, some even experience toxic or abusive dynamics. Reducing all of that to shallow, fetishized smut for the sake of selling books is just annoying. I totally get why gay men would be frustrated, especially since their identity is already treated as a joke in so much Western media.
Oh, Claudine and Maria-sama ga Miteru are by Oyuki Konno, a female author! You're welcome! And that's great to hear, I'll definitely send more recs your way if I come across anything that fits the trope. ^_^
I hope you have a lovely rest of your week as well! It’s always great talking to you about yuri.
Hey! I'm doing well, how about you? :) Sorry for taking so long to reply to your other message, but I’ll definitely get to it sometime this week! ^_^
I’ve actually heard of it! I tend to read a bunch of yuri series at the same time, so I already have it open in one of my tabs and was planning to check it out this month. I wasn’t sure if it was actually yuri since the website I found it on didn’t tag it as such, but now that you’re saying it is, I’m really excited to read it!
At this point, I feel like the "green yuri" aesthetic is pretty influential in the yuri community. There’s also this other new yuri series called A Story About How She Grew Conscious of Her Childhood Friend, and instead of green, it uses pink, yellow, and blue.
Hi !! Good to hear that your entrance exams went well ! Well it's normal to not know what to do when you are still young.
To answer your question, I don't think the manga has improved in portraying the dark side of the manga, but what has improved is probably how they were able to express people emotion and personality, which is a good think.
The fight scene were decent but not something that's gonna blow your mind.
I saw that you're currently watching Season 4 of BMHA, are you still enjoying it ?
I agree with you, I personanaly prefer to watch anime that are already finished than watching the seasonal one, because I would have to wait for several month to watch them. I prefer to binge watch when all the episode are out.
Hi!! Sorry for the late reply, I was busy with work and was quite overwhelmed with life. Hope that you will do/did well at your exam.
What are you currently studying ? And do you have a career plan ?
I'm finally update with BNHA anime and to be honest with you, it was dark and the relationship between the different character made me quite emotional.
Lately, I have been able to go to A BNHA event in Paris and it was really cool, I got some merch too .
Btw do you go to some anime/manga convention ?
About me, I started to watch anime on TV when I was a kid with classical shounen such as Naruto and Detective Conan. At that time, I wasnt serious about anime, it was just a way to not get bored.
It's mainly during lockdown that my interest in anime has increased. My favorite genre are probably psychological, mystery and action.
Do you still find time to watch anime or do you struggle to catch up with ?
i really enjoyed Banana Bread No Pudding , so i will reccomend that one !! i think i would also reccomend Presents , if you like horror , though i have to warn that it ends somewhat abruptly
I'm so glad you're excited to read it! I totally get that feeling it’s rare to find a series that really hits you emotionally, so I hope this one delivers for you. :)
Yeah, adaptations tend to miss those subtle emotional nuances that make the source material special. Bloom Into You was beautifully animated, but I agree it lacked that extra emotional depth that could have made it a 10/10. Super hyped for The Guy She Was Interested in Wasn't a Guy at All! too! I was hooked the moment it came out the four-page chapters and weekly releases felt like a little treat every time. If you ever decide to continue reading the manga, trust me, you won’t regret it. The latest chapters have been making my heart flutter so much! I was actually in a discussion on another site about whether the anime will keep the green color scheme. I think there are two possible approaches: either the anime will closely resemble the manga’s style, or they’ll integrate the color green in a significant way, like using different shades for background shifts during emotional moments.
No problem, glad to help! :) Oh, and about Arioto my bad for the confusion! That’s just a shorter way of referring to the series. The full English title is A Yuri Story About a Girl Who Insists "It's Impossible for Two Girls to Get Together" Completely Falling Within 100 Days. I usually read LNs as ebooks too, but I really wish there was a "MangaDex for LNs." Personally, I just search for the title online along with "read online free," and a few sites usually pop up. :) Some fan translation groups also post PDFs and EPUBs on their sites. If you’re looking for a good place for yuri LNs, Dynasty Reader is a great site it has almost every yuri work you can think of, and the community there is amazing!
Totally agree WLW stories about adults bring such a different perspective to romance, and it’s so refreshing. I also read I Married My Best Friend to Shut My Parents Up and had the same "meh" reaction, so I totally get you. I'd love to check out your rant, lol I always enjoy seeing proper responses to a series rather than just one-word comments, which happens way too often in comment sections.
Omg, now I need to know what that 90s WLW movie/series was! Also, I finally found someone who ships Applejack/Rarity! Most people tend to pair Applejack with Rainbow Dash, but I actually ship Rainbow Dash with Fluttershy. I totally get what you're looking for, one character who's super feminine and glamorous, while the other is more casual and laid-back. A good manga that might fit that dynamic is A Story About Buying a Classmate Once a Week ~ 5,000 Yen for an Excuse to Spend Time Together. One girl is super popular and pretty, while the other is plain and doesn’t care much about what others think of her. Another option is A Yuri Manga That Starts With Getting Rejected in a Dream, and Ayaka is in Love with Hiroko! would be a perfect example too, just look at the cover of Volume 1! But honestly, Collectors by Nishi Uko is probably the best match. One of the leads is a bookworm who dresses simply (jeans and a t-shirt), while her girlfriend is a shopaholic and obsessed with fashion. I got a little too excited there, haha. :D
I personally dropped and picked up NTR Trap so many times that I forgot how it even started and ended. As for Citrus, I actually enjoyed it at first, but after hearing others’ critiques and analyzing it more, I realized... yeah, this isn’t exactly a healthy relationship (not the lesbian aspect, but the way they become a couple).
As for the terminology debate, there’s technically no major difference between "Yuri" and "GL" since "Yuri" (百合) literally translates to "lily" in Japanese, it just means "girls’ love." In the Western fandom, "GL" is more commonly used for manhwa and manhua, since "Yuri" is often associated with wholesome or romantic works, while "GL" has become a broader (and sometimes more sexualized) term. Some people think "GL" is vague enough to include NSFW content like On a Leash, whereas "Yuri" is typically seen as more cute and romantic. Shoujo-ai, on the other hand, is mainly used to describe yuri with light subtext where the girls might confess or hold hands but don’t go much further. though, "Shoujo-ai" and it can even have different connotations.
MLM stories definitely struggle with quality sometimes there’s a lot of "fanservice-y" content that prioritizes appeal over actual storytelling. I feel the same way about WLW content written by men some of it is surprisingly decent, but you can always tell when it’s written from an outsider’s perspective. I honestly feel bad for gay men who read BL hoping to understand themselves better, only to be bombarded with over-the-top, fetishized romance. I actually got into yuri to understand my own attraction better, and a lot of stories did help me. But somewhere along the way, I fell into the yuri rabbit hole and now I can’t (and don’t want to) get out, lol. :) I’ve seen a lot of gay men in BL comment sections saying, "I’m a gay man, and I find this unrealistic/disgusting," which is kinda sad.
There are definitely differences between BL written by men and women. In general, men tend to draw hairier, more muscular male leads, while women make them more handsome and "pretty." The biggest difference, though, is in how they write relationships, BL written by women often leans into toxic and manipulative dynamics (Jinx is a prime example of that, and yeah... not for me).
No problem for the recs! Haha, don’t stress about making an interest stack for these recommendations, I already have a few yuri stacks on my page, so feel free to check them out. ^_^
That said, an unlisted interest stack is a great idea! For your "not quite gay, but totally gay" theme, Claudine and Maria-sama ga Miteru would be great additions. There are so many historical "best friends" stories that fit this vibe, lol. I can’t think of any new one-shots from 2025 off the top of my head, but if I find any, I’ll be sure to let you know!
And yesss, Her Shim-Cheong is gorgeous! I hope you love it as much as I did! :D
HI sorry for the late reply i havent logged into MAL for a while lol . im not sure if you still need a recommendation but if you still do id be happy to try and help , im a little unclear on what you mean though ? you would like a manga thats centered around mythology ? or is any [ clean ] manga fine ? :O

It's good. Would love to see it adapted to a full manga.
