Saw your post in the Aku no Hana thread... and I'd second most of the suggestions below (particularly Aoi Bungaku) but also suggest you check out: Monster, Colorful, Gankutsuou, the Sweat Punch shorts (especially Kigeki), Yojouhan Shinwa Taikei, Mononoke, and Paprika. All good series/movies/shorts with unusual art and animation and stories that will sit in your head long after you've finished watching.
Yeah it's a pretty good show, it has it's psychological elements too. I really enjoyed it.
I enjoy both ends of the spectrum. I love the dark, psychological shows but also a fan of slice of life and pretty much anything now. I have Boku wa Tomodachi on my to watch list but have a tonne of shows downloaded I haven't watched yet. So much backlog atm. Yeah I like samurai and historical anime but haven't watched that many.
Hehe I'm a massive SHAFT fanboi and that show is really awesome, I think I'm about caught up with everything "team shinbo" has made now. Aoi Bungaku was really amazing. Argh... you've trumped me now, I like psychological shows but can't think of any more to recommend unless we go a little off tangent. Welcome to NHK (but it's more slice of life-ish), Denpa teki na Kanojo, Jigoku Shoujo and Higurashi are the last I can think of. Not as dark as the ones we have been talking about though really.
Yeah I agree too, I only recently watched Kemonozume and it was pretty awesome, Madhouse never fail to deliver in that department. Yeah I agree with things like deathnote too, I enjoyed the series as a whole but it gets way more credit than it should do, I wasn't a massive fan of Elfen Lied either, even though seinen and blood is usually my thing. I can't help you then... welp. Unless actually, have you watched Aoi Bungaku Series? That would probably but up your street if you haven't it's a collection of smaller stories, MadHouse again hehe.
Yeah I enjoyed Lain and Paranoia agent too, both really awesome shows. Hmm so you are looking for more psychological stuff, the only other stuff along those lines I can think of off the top of my head are Kemonozume (also has a very strange art style), Ergo Proxy and Texhnolyze. I think you mentioned most of my favorites already though.
If you are liking Aku no Hana you could try Mushishi. I don't know another rotoscoped anime like this but Mushishi is by the same director and is one of my favorite shows.
