Really? Eh, it's understandable, Zexal at first seems to be really dumbed down (with Yuma just being straight annoying) and a repeat of the older series, but it does improve and get really serious later. The plot does become pretty unique towards the 2nd half of the first season, too. It doesn't get good for about 20 episodes though so it takes a lot of commitment to get into it. If you don't want to wait that long, then it might be best not to watch it. I just really like the side/supporting characters in Zexal, they are more interesting than in GX or a few in DM even. Still, no one can beat Kaiba and Jack Atlas, hah~
I actually have never watched Duel Monsters all the way through in Japanese, only bits and pieces (I thought you meant if I watched Zexal subbed or dubbed, sorry). The 4Kids dub is just so ridiculous that it's hysterical to watch, but maybe if I go back and see the more serious side of it in Japanese it might be better. I've never really felt that connected to any of the characters on an emotional level so the dub might be why.
It would probably be better to watch all of the second season in one or two sittings, yeah. They go to a training camp for at least 5 episodes so it felt longer as the weeks went by.
And as for Zexal, I never finished the second season so that's probably why it's not higher. Not much happened in the first 20-30 episodes in the first season, but Yuma's fights with III and Kaito are a 10/10 for sure. It kind of balances itself out. I really should get around to finishing the series though. Have you not watched it yet?
The second season is even better than the first. There is a lot less wasted time and the rest of the team (beyond and even including Kageyama and Hinata) get a lot of character development, so it's nice. My main issue with it, though, is that they are learning techniques that they should have learned in the beginning of middle school. It makes sense for Hinata to not understand a lot of stuff, but they all seem kind of clueless for some reason.
And yeah... I don't know why, but I have lost some interest in Yugioh over the years. Back in 2011 when I first watched it I had it at a 9 but I don't know, I guess I might be growing out of it or something.
Hah sometimes. I'm really picky with my shows, I guess. A lot of shounen and shoujo series tend to be cliche or things that I have seen before so I give better scores for originality and overall entertainment ^^
