I'm a total geek for anime, manga, and video games. Can't get enough of those worlds! Oh, before I forget,You should totally check out my YouTube channel! It's full of amazing stuff https://www.youtube.com/@Cracked_hail-ix4qb
Agreed. The new version is not bad, it's just not the definitive Ranma for me. You are also a fan of its author Rumiko Takahashi, so you would know that Rumiko has a panache for attractive proportions with default human outfit across all her works. If I remember correctly, when the JP authority passed the law to censor the portrayal of human body in manga/anime, Rumiko was one of the most prominent protesters (largely because how much she likes to draw that in her own works).
BTW I have been watching the Ranma 1/2 Remake, and long story short I prefer the old version. Not attacking the new version, and to be fair Mappa did a great job making a modern HD version of Ranma for new audiences. But as someone who grew up with the old version and its greasy, slimy, raunchy, wacky and sassy tone, the new version is just too "safe" and "innocent" for me. Then again, to each of their own if you like the new version better.
I first watched Ranma 1/2 around 1993 on TV before I even went to primary school. I am also glad that they are remaking it, as I think the story/overall quality of Ranma 1/2 is better than Urusei Yatsura, though both shows are similar in structure and nature. As you can see from my profile, I am also a fan of Takahashi Rumiko, and my favorite manga from her is Mermaid Forest (anime adaptation is not bad but lost some edge of the manga). I only got to watch the whole series of Inuyasha when I was about 32 (LOL), but yes it is a classic and perhaps the most epic and accomplished work from Yumiko.
Fore sure for sure. I for one don't want to dwell too much on nostalgia about older shows. My favorite anime used to be Uchuu no Kishi Tekkaman Blade which I watched when I was about 7 years old (Now my favorite anime is Monster which has been so since 2006). It remains a classic for me, but I also need to acknowledge the flaws with its production (unstable character art in its later half). Still, if you like old-school space opera, I'd highly recommend that show.
Today I just finished watching Gundam MS 08 Squad (1995), and honestly think it's a 9/10 for me.
The same to you, my friend. It seems we both have a knack for older anime. I have been watching anime since circa 1991 (which makes me basically a boomer on this site, LOL). The reason I did not give very high scores to Dragon Ball and Fist of the North Star is not that I did not like them, but that I had a far better experience reading the manga. Other than those shows, our ratings for most shows are pretty similar.
