One can only speculate plausible answers to unexplained questions since it is clear that Evangelion 3.0 makes no effort to reveal its secrets to the audience. Considering that it's Evangelion, I am skeptical as to if those secrets will be revealed at all. Essentially everyone wants a clear-cut explanation as to what transpired during the fourteen year time lapse, but it's not practical to arrange screentime for that in the finale. In fact, it would take away from the all-encompassing theme of the tetralogy of "moving forward" as hinted by the nature of the movie titles. I believe that the purpose of leaving the viewers in the dark is a crude way of forcing reality into their throats, much akin to Shinji's experience in the film. There is a lot of unrest and discontent amongst the fans and I find that it is a naive perspective which impedes them from seeing the bigger picture. So much time has passed since the release of the previous movie and one can only hope that the fans would grow up a little along the way.

These are only speculative answers to your remaining questions, so I would advise you to take these words with a grain of salt.

The spears appear to be two Lances of Longinus, which have the power to immobilize beings such as Angels and can be used to initiate Instrumentality. The Spear of Cassius was the object that was impaled into EVA-01 at the conclusion of the second movie. I wish I could read Kaworu's mind when he finally understood what was going on, but we are pretty much left in the dark as far as this goes.

I believe that the giant head belongs to Lilith, which was the decapitated Angel that was pierced by the two Lances of Longinus. Remember that Lilith was the Angel that was confined in Central Dogma and presented to Shinji in the first Rebuild film. The scene with the giant head is reminiscent of the End of Evangelion and the original NGE adaptation. Clearly an event of massive proportions led Lilith's head to where it lies now during the fourteen year time lapse.

I will acknowledge that I exhibit the many qualities of an English major, but that is not my focus of study. I simply possess an appreciation for the English language. I find it extremely humbling when people compliment my writing skills. I do what I can as best as I can and that is the mantra which I abide by.

Cheers,

Thank you! I'm flattered by your praise since it is rare for me to go out of my way to review a movie. I think that the intention of Evangelion is to confuse its audience as misunderstanding breeds all controversy. It is easy to find weaknesses in any piece to exploit and use as a reason to convey contempt or disappointment, and that holds true for the Evangelion series. If the purpose of art is to stimulate its connoisseur, then Evangelion achieves the essence of art by definition judging from the torrent of outcries both positive and negative. However, most viewers see things for face value, and that is a perfectly valid viewpoint. The truth for me is what I think and feel from what I see, and I am content with the thoughts and feelings that I have transcribed into my review.

A rule of thumb that I strictly abide by is that I would not write something that I would not wish to read. The irony of that raison-d'être is that I always publish my written work without proofreading. Maybe I am simply shooting myself in the foot with this bad habit, but if there was just one person who could attest to the aptitude of my writing skill, such as yourself, then that is enough evidence for me to acknowledge my talent for the written word.

Cheers,
Deaf
