I will try to savor it and fully understand it. It is easy to get ahead of yourself when judging, after all! The plot doesnt even start till like episode 9 ans even then it didnt pick up till 13 where you start to realize Eureka is basically a weird girl with a connection to Anonome (the first part was obvious from first gpance, but im really interested to see the parallels between Renton and the lieutenant and Eureka and Anonome).
So yeah, I am reserving judgement. Loved the first few episodes and its starting to pick up again. Just hope they give us a bit more of a reason to care about the characters.
Anyways, ill use this phrase properly now. Cheers!
Wow .. youve actually watched Eureka 7 multiple times? And it holds up? Im honestly surprised ... so far im a bit frusteated with it, i like the fundamentals though!
It's tough, because with anime more so than any other medium I am consistently conflicted with my thoughts. Sounds stupid maybe, but I think it's just because it's a medium filled with shows that have a cluster fuck of ideas and plot twists that could just as easily be considered great as they could ass pulls.
That being said, I don't really think my analysis is that off. Sure, it's based on an old memory and I might have my mind changed by now. But like say Neon Genesis, Now and Then is one of those shows where you could just as easily make a case for it being one of the best things ever as you could for it being overrated garbage. and I remember pretty clearly what my feelings were for NTHT. Which was basically, it's awesome, it does its job effectively, its just flawed. Im not going to respond to everything you said because its been so long. Sorry, I just can't. But I dont think thats an unfair position to hold, and im pretty confident in it.
A 7 or 8 is a super high score for me, you need only look at the shows i've been watching that I just scored to see that (right now i'd give Girls
Last Tour like a 4 or 5 and Eureka a 5 or 6 so once i'm done with those that will probably be even more ample proof). So I do really love and appreciate the show. I just don't think it's a near perfect entity, far from it in fact.
But don't worry. I will rewatch it. I will actually rewatch about 38 or so anime from my MAL list. That show is included. So if I change my opinion I will be sure to hit you up! not like i think your opinion is wrong btw. just a difference in opinion i guess. and your opinion could be more valid than mine. who knows.
I completely agree with you about your comments regarding Now and Then, btw. The only problem is ... it doesn't really change the fact that other characters are one dimensional. now keep in mind I haven't seen it for a long ass time. But even Lala-Ru, who I can excuse being one dimensional because her character *NEEDS* to be, I just can't find her as a well written character. This is coming from a guy who can usually overlook this stuff(like in NGE). But in this case it was hard to feel like she was anything more than a piece of carboard.
iirc the main villain is garbage.
I also thought it was sad that the show ended up making pretty much every character one dimensional.
but see, that's why I have a hard time critiquing the show. Because it's one of the only shows I've ever seen in media history where there is ALMOST ALWAYS a good reason for one. Like the native grandmother for instance. I liked her character and I wished she developed more, but what can I say? She's in like .. a max of 4 episodes I think? All the main child characters are actually AMAZING, the MC isn't thatttt great, but he gets the job done. I wouldn't really describe the show as some kind of great shounen deconstruction though, and thus I was a little harsher on it with the MC, because even if the point is that he's a kid alienated in an alternate world, he just sucks for too much of the show.
The biggest problem was just that the ending sucked ass. I remember being pissed at how bad it was.
So yeah ... it's a show with a few too many 1 note characters, but it's hard for me to get mad at it when it's kind of the point. It's just hard to overlook when it occurs for like 12 episodes.
About FMA ... I completely agree ... but here's the thing. It's weird, if someone asked me how good Brotherhood was, I'd say Brotherhood has a shit ton of flaws. The first 20 episodes are basically garbage because they are less emotional, faster paced versions of FMA 03's cannon episodes with worse art and worse direction. And as much as I love Broho, I wish t he ending to it wasn't sooo shonen.
But despite all these flaws, it still represents a wide cast of characters better than almost any show I've ever seen. Not only that, but it ties up multiple themes better than ANY show I've ever seen.
It's hard for me to take off my nostalgia goggles granted. But when I look at FMA Broho, I see a series that is great DESPITE it's flaws. And if a show can be so enjoyable despite having so many flaws, than in it's own way, isn't it a masterpiece? Because it can still touch such heart strings even with a boat load of crap waiting in the toilet bowl. Because it overcomes so much of it's flaws and rises above it.
If you did talk to me on Sput and I forgot, i'm genuinely sorry. I'm usually pretty good with names!
You gave it a 10! Damn! I'll be honest and say that based on my memory, it was more like a 7 or 8. But It was a really damn good show. It's one of the only anime I've seen where I was actually able to stand the pretty paper thin characters (no offense). It had great directing, great music, and unlike most "edgy" anime it's violence made a very good point. I loved it a lot and I really should rewatch it sometime.
Great comment man, i see you got a firm grasp on your problems with darlifra so i wont argue there even though i disagree with almost everything you said.
As for lupin III, it was my most hyped show of the season at the very beginning but lost steam rather quickly. I havent seen the newest one yet which promissed to finally be a break away from the internet heist plot they had for the first five episode so im hopeful for the series.
As for s ;g 0, im ready to drop it if it keeps on being as painstakingly boring as it was so far. Im not a fan of the original series so i didnt have the best prerequisits to like 0 to begin with.
