I started to get into anime about a year and a half ago when one of my best friends (who i'd only just met at the time) introduced me to Evangelion, Death Note and Elfen Lied all within about a week. Although i had watched a few animes when i was a kid - Akira and the Legend of the Dragon Kings are the only ones i remember - none of them captured my imagination. But when i saw episodes 25-26 of Evangelion it just blew my mind. It opened the door for me and i've been hooked on anime ever since.

I'm pretty picky about what i watch, i won't watch something just because it's an anime. For instance, i have absolutely no interest in watching Dragon Ball Z, Bleach, Naruto, Full Metal Alchemist or any of the countless other animes whose obscene popularity is a mystery to me.

I'm interested in the original, the perceptive, the thought provoking and the sublime.

I'm not interested in teenager's wet dreams.

I'm not interested in clichéd action heroes or brainless bimbos.

I'm certainly not interested in an endless stream of mind-numbingly formulaic episodes comprising of a two minute, one dimensional plot summary followed by an utterly predictable fight scene between the child (or just childlike) hero(ine) and whatever patently ridiculous enemy the writers have come up with this week in a hopeless attempt to dredge some iota of creativity out of their horrible, dead-end jobs.

And i'm not interested in hentai.

I have to admit though that sometimes i watch things just because they're cute.

Apologies for the rant, just begining to wonder if there's any more discerning anime fans out there. I've met a few, please tell me there's more.
