thanks for accepting my request!
It definitely was an exciting journey, and it's one of those series that I don't know if I could watch again because the impact of it all just seems like it'll be lessened with a rewatch. That statement didn't really make sense (ha ha), but to me it's always seemed that series with exciting twists are easier to rewatch because that feeling of excitement is easily reconveyed (take CG), but series with more meaningful twists sort of lose their meaning when you see it again.
I really appreciated how much of Mawaru was left up to interpretation though. The series is over, but there's potential for more in your own mind (even if that doesn't translate into potential for a follow-up). It felt like if Mawaru had a set-in-stone end that could only be interpreted one way, it would take away from the the series and the impact of the Takakuras' sacrifice and "rebirth."
That ending was still crazy bittersweet though. I'm a sucker for happy endings (though they're typically the most boring), but I couldn't imagine the series ending any other way.
I'm glad you enjoyed it so much though. I honestly don't remember too many specifics on it (and the events of the past are definitely one of those topics that's a little hazy in my mind right now), but the overall execution of the series was just amazing enough for me to overlook inconsistencies. Or maybe it's just Lelouch's character, but all those plans and how not a single action was wasted on his part never ceased to amaze me even after a rewatch. In regards to sending Nunnally and Lelouch away, I would imagine that you could attribute that to just base familial love? Perhaps even if they didn't care about their children's fates, there was still some underlying desire to save them. But then that begs the question of why just those two and not the rest of the children.
I'm definitely impressed with just how much that you managed to finish in this week or so. I saw that you watched Bokuto as well, what do you make of Lelouch, or Julius, as he calls himself? I'm still confused on the exact timeline of the series. It says 2017 which should be around the time of first season's Lelouch, but that would lead to overlap in timeline with the second season. So I guess with the theory that this takes place after the events of the main CG series, what exactly is happening? I understand Lelouch scheming and stepping into their politics, but why would Suzaku be there as well if this were indeed in the future? I guess in the end my confusions all go back to when the OVAs are taking place, so I'm sure that with the third episode, they'll clear some of it up.
It's hard to find reasonable and inteligent people with which you can discuss anime so I dont have many friends here on MAL, most of them are people from real life. So new friends like you are always welcome. You are still lucky you have brother who watch anime even though you have different taste. I like slice of life a lot, its good way to relax when I come home from work but its that kind of genre where I watch 1-2 episodes per day so it takes a while to finish such series. My favourites are Mushishi and Natsume Yuujinchou.
btw excuse my english if there are some mistakes or wrong wording, its not my native language ^^
We have very similar taste, I love sports, thrillers, drama, psychological and romance (only serious) anime and I dont like harem and ecchi :)
I would definitely recommend you Hikaru no Go. Its been in my top 10 for many years and its still the best sports anime I have seen. Dont worry about Go that they are playing. I did not understand the game at first, yet I enjoyed it a lot and its aimed on girls so you should enjoy it.
Not sure if you like racing anime but Capeta is very good show I would recommend. Its about cart racing, characters are likeable and it has nice pacing and good story overall.
Shion no Ou is the series that not many people know about but its worth checking out. Rare but interesting combination of sports and thriller genres with pretty good story and atmoshpere.
And last one for now will be Gyakkyou Burai Kaiji. Its almost necessity for psychological thriller fans because no other show can take its study of human mind and character to such depths. I seriously had to stop watching few times in the first season because it was that insane.
I was always huge fan of sports anime and that won't probably change. It made me happy how you said that you would take my recommendations seriously ^^ Feel free to ask if you ever need recommendations or opinions on anime. I always enjoy helping others when it comes to anime.
And no, its not bad to feel proud about having anime I have not seen in a your completed list. Actually there are so many popular anime I have not seen yet. I'm not trying to watch every popular anime out there because I often enjoy watching some weird and obscure anime more :3
Looking at your unique anime which I have not seen, there is a lot of shoujo stuff indeed. I definitely plan to watch some of yours anime like Black Cat, Bamboo Blade and Yowamushi Pedal having the highest priority.
I would say that HxH is worth it, but I'm also a sucker for shonen series so I'm not sure how much weight my opinion carries in that aspect. The nice thing about HxH is that there are zero fillers (thus far), and the pacing is actually surprisingly quick, or at least it seemed to be in comparison to the original version. I think the action and relative lack of inaction makes HxH an incredibly easy show to marathon, and that was actually my experience with the first series, which, like I mentioned, was actually slower than this remake.
Speaking of marathonning, I recently finished Gintama (in a month...), and wow. It definitely deserves all its four spots in the top seven of MAL. If you ever find youself with the time, I'd definitely have to recommend this as well. And even if you don't have that much time to dedicate to its impressive number of episodes, its episodic nature makes it easy to just watch whenever you find the time or the urge.
I feel the same way about sports IRL, though I've grown partial to watching baseball because I sports medded my school's JV team in the past. I don't know if I can say that I like sports anime, but again, of the ones I've seen, I've definitely enjoyed them all. I actually had Cross Game on my planned list for the longest time, but I eventually cut it in an effort to cut down on that list since it was getting ridiculous. I'll definitely consider it again over winter break or when I find myself with an excess of time again. Like you, I love marathonning, and there's still a couple of series that I want to finish by the end of summer, so I might not have time for it now.
Nodame has also be recommended to me multiple times as well. It sounds enjoyable and rather relevant to my life right now, so I'll definitely give it priority when I start knocking down my planned list again. c:
Also, thanks! The quality of the image bothers me since I had to upload it to MAL (which has a pretty low limit for file size), but I don't particularly want to tackle the challenge of learning how to mess with css coding just yet, so I've had to settle with what I have. Your list is extremely classy and definitely partly what I envisioned mine to look like once I decide to learn how to mess with that coding. The pastel color pallet and smooth interactivity are amazing. *u*
Ugh I'm the most long-winded person ever. Saspra, stop. Don't worry about late responses! Once school starts up again, I'll be unfortunately setting records for terrible response time. orz
In any event, I'd love to discuss series with you and share recommendations. I have to mention that I can get extremely long-winded after conversing for a while, and when that happens my response time takes a huge hit. I've been known to takes weeks (and sadly, months in my busier times) to reply to people so I'm sorry in advance if that happens!
I took a look at your planned list and from there I'd have to strongly recommend Code Geass, Mawaru Penguindrum, and Hunter x Hunter (2011) with a stronger emphasis on the first two. I can't properly remember if there's some sort of bias on MAL against Code Geass or if that's worn off by now, but I'd have to say that it's a strong, well-rounded series and definitely worth a watch. I want to relate Mawaru to Shinsekai yori, but there really isn't much overlap between the two, other than the fact that the two endings are just such shocking twists that really make you slow down and think for a moment (although Mawaru's conclusion is nothing terribly deep and philosophical like Shinsekai's). It's a long and somewhat tedious--at times--journey, but Mawaru is definitely one of the most phenomenal series I've seen that I'd have to recommend.
And without proper transition, I'm looking forward to getting to know you. ovo
