I heard there's some racism and transphobia in the LGBT community. Which I find difficult to understand because the LGBT community is the last community I would think that would have these kind of forms of bigotry.

Thanks a lot for taking time to answer! I am really lucky to meet someone who has experience with the genre. I especially appreciate you bringing up the notion that the type usually associated with bara is not the only one portrayed there. That explains a lot (and is logical). I am happy that my general idea was right and I didn't confuse people. Also, yeah, "the yaoi hands" is a strange thing.
If I may bother you one more time - could you recommend a few titles? Not sure if for reading, but it'd be great to know them for proper reference if needed. I doubt I'll find another person in the know.
Hi! I've seen your comment in the manga subforum about the bara genre, so I though that maybe you'll be willing to help me to make sense out of the "gay" genres, if you'd be so kind. I've always argued with people that yaoi is a female-orieneted genre, while bara is aimed at gay men. But it's not that I am familiar with the niche, so I started to have doubts. While the former is undoubtedly true, with the latter I am uncertain, since bara seems to also imply a certain type of characters (muscular and beef). Also I've read somewhere that surveys show that gay men also read yaoi, even though they aren't the target audience. Could you clarify a bit what's the state of things with bara?

But I love IRC! What else does one even use? Facebook requires members to share their identity and private life with one another. Skype has only one client and doesn't aggregate open chatrooms the way IRC networks do. You know that the vast majority of fansub groups have IRC channels?
No protocol aggregates chatrooms as massively and conveniently as IRC. I can use my favourite client/interact among the hundreds available, connect to Rizon, and chat from the same program with the MAL community channel, two MAL clubs' channels, staff channels, VN discussion channels and more. If IRC is outdated (even though more people than ever use it), then what alternatives do you even use?
